“Open the Door of Faith” This year, The Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday the weekend of September 14th and 15th, and will focus on the theme “Open the Door of Faith.” Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. It is also a time that we all should rededicate ourselves to this mission as a community of faith. The Diocese of Baton Rouge, along with our parish community, would like to begin a new tradition by especially recognizing parish catechists and catechetical leaders who are celebrating 10 or 20 plus years in their ministry. **Celebrating 20+ year Anniversary** Eddie Wright - 45 years Tomie Coppola – 30 years Patsy Burgess – 24 years Jo Babin – 20 years
Anna Mary Brackenridge – 40 years Denise Louviere – 26 years Janice Johnson – 21 years
**Celebrating 10 year Anniversary** Craig Baker

Congratulations to all of our parish catechists! You will be kept in our prayers!
We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:
Dear Friends, Beginning Thursday, September 19th at 6:30pm in the library, St Jean Vianney Parish will offer a 9 week course Financial Peace University. The course is designed to help a person manage his/her money, reduce and eliminate debt, and make priority decisions when it comes to saving and spending. It’s biblically based and offers much to those who register. I hope you will do so. You can find out more and register by going to Financial Peace University on line, and click on Where to Find the Class, following instructions. I am grateful to Ms. Lauren Laird for leading this effort. Something else new coming to the Parish will be The Great Adventure Bible Timeline. The entire Bible will be explored considering salvation history from its beginning in Genesis through the coming of Christ and the establishment of the Catholic Church. This study series will be coordinated by Mrs. Jarja Carville and others. Dates and times of when this study series will begin, as well as registration information will be forthcoming soon. This week many priests of the Diocese will offer Confessions at the various Catholic High Schools in our city. This is part of a program coordinated by Bishop Muench to offer the sacrament to High School folks. A similar program is offered for our Elementary School students and Religious Education students at St Jean Vianney. This weekend, is Catechetical Weekend. Reflecting the Church’s need to echo the Word by teaching the faith way of life, the parish prays for all those who share faith by word and example. Thank God for their generosity among us. Thank you to all who returned their Ministry Stewardship Forms. Blank copies remain in Church for use by those who have not done so. Please return your completed form. Pope Francis asked Catholics across the world to join him last weekend in praying for Syria. The complicated situation is fringed with violence. Please continue to pray for world leaders to seek peaceful means of helping the people of Syria and working for peace and justice in the world. Have a blessed week ahead. Love,

ST JEAN VIANNEY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN “Our Time to Pray, Our Time to Give” A MATCHING GIFT There are parishioners who work for businesses which will sometimes MATCH a charitable donation to a Church or School. Is your employer one of those people? If so, your gift to the Capital Campaign could be matched. Sometimes, the employer will match a gift to a SCHOOL but not a CHURCH. Regardless of the case, we can help you find out if your employer will match your gift. Talk to Fr. Tom or Debbie Daigle at the parish office, 753.7950 so we can help you help us.

St. Jean Vianney Social Responsibility News Scotlandville Mobile Food Pantry September dates need Volunteers As you may recall, Together B.R. has identified several areas in our city which are termed ‘food deserts” due to a lack of a grocery store within a one mile radius of concentrated populations. The mobile food pantry which started last year as a cooperative effort of the Greater B.R. Food Bank and TBR continues to offer fresh produce and other fresh items to people in our community. The pantry distribution site is at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1620 77th Avenue, and the upcoming date is September 28th. If you would like to volunteer to distribute food at the site, please contact Edgar Cage at firstname.lastname@example.org. At least 40 volunteers are needed each date, and will assist from 9 am – 1 pm. It is a wonderful opportunity for youth service hours, families, and small Christian community groups. If you would like to ride with others from our parish, please contact Kristen Sunde at 715-3450, or email@example.com.
