5th Sunday of Easter 28th April 2013 REFLECTIONS ON GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY LAST WEEKEND Fr Mario Zammit shares with us his reflections on last weekend‟s readings: Today we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Easter, also called Good Shepherd Sunday, because the Gospel today speaks about Jesus as the Good Shepherd. Jesus invites us, his sheep, to listen to his voice and to follow him. In today’s world there are many shepherds calling for our attention. Who do we follow? Politicians, money, friends, all invite us to follow them. In our baptism we have been called to follow Jesus. We follow Jesus as King, Prophet and Priest. We are all called. We all have our own vocation. Many of us are called to be parents, to give life to children; physical life as well as spiritual life – the life of faith.
Youth Ministry Co-ordinator: Red Lusterio Ph: 0409 184 299
It is our duty as parents to introduce our children to the Good Shepherd. Our children meet Jesus first in our home not in our church.

Our home is the first church. With our children we need to find time to pray; simple prayers.

The best prayer we can pray is when we sit or kneel next to the bed, before we go to sleep, and pray for grandpa, for grandma, for the cat and the dog, and thank God for his many gifts. This way we learn that God is with us. Today we pray in a special way for men and women who have been called to be leaders in our church: Religious sisters and brothers, missionaries and priests. God calls them to journey with us as we together become God’s flock. Our Pope, on the day of his election, invited the people in front of him to pray for him. We need to pray for our priests and religious. We also need to pray and encourage our sons and daughters, so if they are called, they have the courage to follow. Pope Francis who ordained 10 new priests last week, recalled “...that behind every vocation, there is always a person, a grandmother, parents and a community that prays”. He added that “...vocations are born in prayer and through prayer.” Let us continue to pray for more vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated life.

MAY OUR CHILDREN FLOURISH
SEASONS—GRIEF AND LOSS
The Melbourne Archdiocese is seeking to ensure that all parishes are compliant with the requirements of the code of conduct in the May Our Children Flourish framework. To this end, all volunteers involved in ministries which support or work with children, young people and the vulnerable are required to have a current Working With Children Check (WWC) or a National Police Check by 30th June 2013. If you are a volunteer within one of these ministries and have already completed a WWC or Police Check, please let the parish office know as soon as possible. If you have not completed the required paperwork, parish staff will be able to assist you in obtaining one. The coordinators of each of these ministries will contact you over the next few weeks to assist you with this process. If you have any questions, please contact Geralyn McCarthy on 0416 059 673 or Robyn Dyt on 0400 141 840.
Seasons is a peer support program developed to help children and young people cope with the grief and feelings of loss resulting from separation, divorce or death. It provides the opportunity for children to share their story and support each other in a safe environment, facilitated by a trained counsellor. It is a 10 week program and will be offered at St James for primary school age children over terms 2 and 3. Sessions will be held from 3.30pm-4.15pm on the following Thursdays; 16/5, 23/5, 30/5, 6/6, 20/6, 27/6, 18/7, 25/7, 1/8 and 8/8. Program costs $10 per session - paid up front or each session. If you believe your child could benefit from participating in the Seasons peer support program, please contact Karen George, Counsellor with Catholic Care on 0417 274 249.
