Action from Town v Tranmere Rovers in last season’s Liverpool Senior Cup

Town’s record victory in the Senior Cup is a 7-1 win over Formby back in November 1986, whilst their heaviest defeat is a 1-5 loss at Prescot Cables in November 1999. The 3-6 reverse three seasons ago at East Villa (the only occasion teams from the Liverpool County Combination were permitted to enter) came after extra-time. Replays are no longer possible, games now being settled by penalties if the scores are level after extra-time. Town have been taken to extra-time on 11 occasions, winning three times. Two ties have gone to penalties, Town winning on both occasions and one game (against Liverpool) went to a replay. Of the five ties lost after extra -time, four have come in the last eight seasons, including three in four years between 2006 and 2009.

The prospect of a Semi-Final tie is sufficient incentive for both teams this evening, so here’s to an entertaining game and may the better team win! GLYN JONES NWCFL Premier Division Season 20102010-11 Programme of the Year
