Getting Involved at St. Thomas Dear Parents, Welcome to St. Thomas High School! I have the honor of serving as the second president of this school. Though I am only one year into my tenure as the head of school, my involvement in the St. Thomas community extends almost a decade. I have had the privilege of getting involved with many of the events that are fixtures on our calendar, including the annual auction gala and my personal favorite, Round-Up. I would like to invite you to join me in getting involved during your son’s time as a student here and beyond. I hope you will take a few moments and discover the ways that you can make a difference in the St. Thomas community with your time and talent. By accepting our invitation to get involved, we know that you will be further enriched by meeting new friends, learning more about St. Thomas High School, and deepening your appreciation for the Basilian tradition of teaching young men Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. St. Thomas High School is a vibrant community that exists because of you, our dedicated and loyal parents. The selflessness of our parents when it comes to volunteering is truly inspiring. We rely on you to advance our sacred mission and to enable the school to continue the success the students here have enjoyed for over a century. Please join my distinguished colleagues and me in continuing the great tradition of Texas’ oldest Catholic boys school! Yours in Christ,

Rev. Kevin Storey, C.S.B. President

The St. Thomas Annual Fund provides the foundation for our fundraising efforts, with 100% of the proceeds going to maintain the affordability of our tuition. Who participates in the St. Thomas Annual Fund? Everyone is invited to participate. In 2012-2013, we had 100% participation from the faculty and staff. Current parents, alumni, alumni parents, grandparents and friends all contribute. The goal for the current school year is for 100% of parents to participate. How can I give? Every parent will receive a solicitation in September. You may send that back, or you can make an online donation at give.sths.org. Contact Tiffani Kimball, Director of Annual Fund, with any inquries at (713) 341-5556.

ROUND-UP

Jubilant students implore Fr. Fulton for an extra holiday after breaking the record for Round-Up raffle ticket sales

A strong sense of service and tradition permeates the St. Thomas community. Each spring, the community becomes focused on Round-Up. Students sell raffle tickets, with 100% of the proceeds going to tuition assistance. They are keenly aware that many of their classmates would not be able to attend St. Thomas High School without financial aid. Over $1.6 million in financial aid was distributed for the 2012-2013 school year, and roughly 25% of those funds came directly from RoundUp. The record for raffle ticket sales was broken for the 10th consecutive year in 2013, with the students selling over $420,000 worth of tickets! On Round-Up Sunday itself, the campus is full of carnival rides and games, while dining options and entertainment abound. Students earn incentives for raffle ticket sales, such as trips to Schlitterbahn and Dave & Buster’s, as well as receiving days off in the month of April. Volunteering and sponsorship opportunities are available for Round-Up. Information will be distributed at the Mothers’ Club Welcome Tea, and the first Round-Up committee meeting will take place in November. Don’t miss the opportunity to get involved in one of the most exciting events of the school year!

OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED September 2013 St. Thomas Annual Fund is launched with the Basilian Tradition Breakfast in Cemo Auditorium on August 25. Invitations will be mailed to all current parents. The goal for the 2013-14 St. Thomas Annual Fund is $800,000 and 100% participation among parents. November 2013 Annual Auction Gala is scheduled for November 2, 2013 at 6:30 PM in Cemo Auditorium and Reckling Gymnasium. Underwriting opportunities are available for the event. Proceeds from the Auction Gala go to the St. Thomas operating fund, and the event set a record for amount raised last year. December 2013 Mothers’ Club Christmas Fund is accumulated in early December by members of that committee. The Christmas Fund is divided evenly by all faculty and staff members at St. Thomas High School. January 2014 Raffle tickets for Round-Up are distributed to students on January 24. This kicks off the six week lead-up to the event on March 2. All funds raised from the Round-Up raffle go towards Tuition Assistance. April 2014 The annual STH Golf Tournament will be held on April 9, 2013 at Blackhorse Golf Club. The event brings together current parents, alumni and friends within the St. Thomas community. Golf Tournament proceeds go to the Jimmy Burke Endowed Scholarship and the St. Thomas Athletic Department. April 2014 Just weeks before graduation, Senior mothers are given an opportunity to participate in the annual Mothers’ Club Style Show & Luncheon. The event will take place on Friday, April 25, 2014.
