Wrap-Up on the Book of Genesis by S. Sebastian Campbell

1. Genesis asserts that God is the Creator and He chooses a special people to make Him known to the world. 2. To understand Genesis we must understand the covenant God establishes with His people beginning with Abraham. Covenant:

I will be your God if you will be my people. (See Exodus 19:5; Gen. 17 Circumcision is given as a sign of the covenant).

3. Genesis Ch. 12 is of great importance as it marks the beginning of Israel’s history with the call of Abraham. Sin 5. Remember, Genesis is no scientific book. God controls science, He asserts it and make it work to His advantage. 6. Of interest would have been the long life expectancy then as opposed to now. It was the era of pre-war, pre-famine, pre-pollution and predisease. We live in an era of grave pollution and environmental terrorism that is affecting life today. Additionally, numbers were used differently and the span of years would have been shorter then. But long life is significant of God’s blessings; this is the ultimate point. 7. Helpful reference verses: Gen. 11:1-

At first the people of the whole world had only one language and used the same words.

Gen. 33:10- To see your face is for me like seeing the face of God. Gen. 3:9-

The Lord God called out to the man, where are you?

Gen. 41:38- We will never find a man better than Joseph.
