It is not intended for those under 14, over 60, or the sickly. Fasting means that we eat only one full meal. Abstinence refers to not eating any meat. Abstinence applies to all Fridays in Lent. Besides fast and abstinence, the interior penance of the Christian can be expressed in many ways; prayer, exercises of devotions and charity (almsgiving), denying oneself by fulfilling responsibilities more faithfully, efforts at reconciling with neighbors, etc. Abstinencia refiere a no comer carne. STATIONS OF THE CROSS/LENTEN MEALS: Join us at St. Gregory for Stations of the Cross each Friday during Lent at 6:00 p.m., followed by a light lenten meal. "Dear Brothers and Sisters, through the personal encounter with our Redeemer and through fasting, almsgiving and prayer, the journey of conversion towards Easter leads us to rediscover our Baptism. This Lent, let us renew our acceptance of the Grace that God bestowed upon us at that moment, so that it may illuminate and guide all of our actions. What the Sacrament signifies and realizes, we are called to experience every day by following Christ in an ever more generous and authentic manner. In this our itinerary, let us entrust ourselves to the Virgin Mary, who generated the Word of God in faith and in the flesh, so that we may immerse ourselves – just as she did – in the death and resurrection of her Son Jesus, and possess eternal life." from Message of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for Lent 2011
