MARK SPRINGER & THE LOCHRIAN STRING QUARTET CONCERT WITH FILM A founder-member of legendary ‘Bristol’ group Rip Rig & Panic, pianist and composer Mark Springer defies categorisation, with a career spanning avant-garde pop, contemporary classical or ‘new music’ and jazz. Tonight, especially for Filmic, Mark premieres his latest compositions for piano and string quartet, with the live performance incorporating films by directors John Maybury and Sarah Killery that are themselves inspired by Springer’s music and the places in Rome and Tuscany that gave rise to it.

THREE CANE WHALE AT THE PICTURES Bristol’s favourite multi-instrumental trio has always been evocative of particular atmospheres and landscapes, both real and imagined. For this special premiere presentation, the band has commissioned a diverse array of film-makers, visual artists and animators to create new works in response to particular TCW tunes. The resulting collaborations will be screened and played live as part of tonight’s show, which will also find time for a little ‘sound-only’ performance. threecanewhale.com @3canewhale
