LENTEN 40 HOURS DEVOTION St. Francis of Assisi 25th Anniversary The Forty Hours Devotion is a special 40‐hour period of continuous prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in solemn exposition. As Catholics, the words of our Lord burn in our hearts: "I myself am the living bread come down from Heaven. If anyone eats this bread, He shall live forever; the bread I will give is my flesh for the life of the world" (John 6:51). Forty Hours Devotion will begin following 5:30 p.m. Mass on Sunday March 27th, and conclude with benediction and reposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday March 29th. During the 40 hours, we will gather together for personal and public prayer in adoration before our Lord. This is a great Lenten practice to help strengthen your faith and relationship with God and the Parish. Please consider signing up for one or more hours. Parish groups and families are encouraged to sign up and to help lead public devotions such as the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and Praise and Worship. Sign‐up sheets are in the Narthex.
LENTEN OFFERING CANS! Lenten offering cans are avail‐ able in the Narthex (in basket). Just contributing your daily loose change can make a big difference to a family! All funds will go to our Parish St. Vincent de Paul Society. Please return all offering cans in the box provided in the Narthex. LIBRARY OPEN DURING LENTEN FISH DINNERS‐‐ The Church Library will be open during Lent after the Lenten Fish Dinners. Please take this opportunity to come browse through our selection of books, DVD’s and videos. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED and no experience is necessary, just a willingness to serve God and his people. Please contact the Church Office for further details.
LENTEN DISCIPLINES During Lent, the Church takes its cue from Jesus who fasted for 40 days in the desert. To fast in union with other Christians can be a holy reminder of our utter dependence on God. Fasting is also an element of repen‐ tance. As we turn away from food and drink, we turn our hearts away from sin to live in fidelity to the Gospel of Jesus. FASTING: Catholics of ages 18‐59 fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day, with no snacking between meals. ABSTINENCE (NO MEAT): Catholics of age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. ASH WEDNESDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY: Days of Fast & Absti‐ nence. FRIDAYS OF LENT: Abstinence (no meat) to be observed. PRAYER & ALMSGIVING: Strongly encouraged during Lent. For a serious reason, the faithful may dispense themselves from the obligation of Fast & Abstinence. In this case, extra works of mercy and charity are encouraged.
THE REAL ANGELS & DEMONS How were the Angels created? Do we still believe in De‐ mons? How does a person become possessed? How does the Church decide that an exorcism is needed? Who can actually perform an exorcism? What’s the deal with all the Hollywood hype on exorcisms? Come and join us as we spend two evenings discussing these issues and unpacking the actual facts as the Church teaches them. MONDAY, APRIL 11TH ‐ The Origin of the Angels & Demons TUESDAY, APRIL 12TH ‐ Exorcism & Demonic Possession Instructor: Rev. Benjamin Bradshaw Location: Parish Life Center; Room 108; 7:00pm‐9:00pm.
