WHO WON? in NT & SA
‘Eye Of The Tiger’ View For Kids Western Australia children were given a unique opportunity recently, thanks to First National and Perth’s premier basketball team, the Perth Wildcats. room. Each of them was high-fived as the players left the rooms to enter the arena where they beat the Wollongong Hawks 80 to 52.
Another significant milestone has arrived with the 30th anniversary of First National Robyn Willis (Glen Innes, NSW). Member Services Manager (MSM) Matthew Harvey called in on Robyn to reinforce First National’s ongoing appreciation of her membership and to thank her for the quality of her service. Originally Mike Williams First National, Robyn has worked within the business for a colossal 21 years, the past 10 years as owner and Principal. We also extend our thanks to team members Louise, Tammy and Luke for helping make First National Robyn Willis the outstanding business that it is today.

The children also received a merchandise pack that included a t-shirt, cap and other Wildcats paraphernalia. Feedback is that the children, their families, and the players all enjoyed the experience so much that the Wildcats are considering a possible extension of the idea next year!
WA Regional Council approached the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, offering the chance for children and their parents to experience something very few people get to see. They were invited to watch the Wildcats in action from First National’s corporate box and experience an ‘inner sanctum’ tour, which involved the children entering the locker room for the player briefing. Some of the team’s legends and pioneers played off against each other in an exhibition match just prior to the main event, in celebration of the Wildcats’ 30th anniversary. However, the highlight for many of the kids was the honour guard they formed outside the team’s locker
First National Kelmscott (Perth, WA) principal, Greg Devereaux reports receiving invitations to submit proposals for the management of three rental properties as a direct result of the Perth Wildcats sponsorship.
Upward And Onward
First National recently received news that 30-year member and 2012 Kaye Heath Memorial Award winner, Matt Nolan (First National Nolans) has sold his business. Matt says he’s been working towards his goal of spending more time with his wife and children, and less time in Sydney’s traffic, for the past few years. Matt’s father joined First National in 1983, just as the network was taking its first steps into New South Wales. The business grew strongly, successfully expanding its reach and reputation throughout Sydney’s inner west. Since his retirement, Matt Nolan Junior has continued the family tradition, taking the reins and advancing the business into the new era of technology.
Matt says his time spent in the network represents some of the happiest days of his life, and, that winning the Kaye Heath Memorial Award at last year’s Bali Convention was the highlight of his membership, leaving him speechless! After he’s enjoyed a break, he hopes to be back in the network in some capacity. On behalf of everyone at First National, we thank the Nolans and their team for their great contribution to both the network and real estate practice over three happy decades. We wish them the very best in their future endeavours.

Changes to Australia’s Superannuation system – Stronger Super – will soon see existing ‘default funds’ replaced with a low-cost, simple super product called ‘MySuper’. This will affect employees who do not nominate a fund for their employer to pay into. Payments into MySuper will be free of commissions to financial advisors. All existing ‘default funds’ will be replaced with MySuper on 1 July 2013. Many First National members and their staff nominate REI Super as their chosen Super fund. REI Super has applied to APRA (the superannuation regulator) and expects to offer a MySuper category from 1 July 2013. REI Super already operates essentially as a MySuper fund in terms of cost, efficiency, and other basic features. It does not pay commission to financial advisors and has over 31,000 members across 6,500 real estate employers. All employers must offer a MySuper fund from 1 July 2013, specifically for employees who have not nominated another super fund. They may continue to offer REI Super as well. For more information concerning the changes, contact Rebekah Wilson of REI Super. P (03) 8676 0311 E firstname.lastname@example.org

Honourable Mention First National Kimberley (Kununurra, WA) is over 800 kilometres from the nearest First National office so they’re really out there on their own. Since taking over the business, principals Brad and Sarah Williams have done a fantastic job boosting their profile, transforming it into the most successful and respected office in the region. Naturally, leadership has played a large role in this success and Brad says Sarah deserves recognition for the outstanding contribution she’s made throughout her 10 years of service. At 18, Sarah was the youngest person in WA qualified as a property manager. At 24, Sarah was the youngest person to be qualified and appointed as a practising licensee in WA. She’s received numerous industry awards and has developed experience in property management, sales, commercial, retail management and leasing, sales coordination and trust accounting.
During 2004, Sarah personally sold 50 properties while acting as licensee and restructuring the business. By 2005, she’d turned the business around, taking it from a $100,000 a year loss maker to a profitable, high performing agency. The agency regularly receives unsolicited testimonials thanking Sarah for her outstanding customer care.
She deserves a bloody medal says Brad! Congratulations Sarah. You’ve really put First National Kimberley on the map.
