OSSA “Guiding the Way” In June, HR Associates attended the Ohio Staffing and Search Association’s annual conference at Put-in-Bay’s Niagara Event Center. This years theme, “Guiding The Way” was a perfect description of the many topics discussed. Keynote speaker, Rob Mosley, of Next Level Exchange, gave his insights on “Redefining the Client Partnership”. Rob stressed the importance of relating your company’s unique services on a regular basis to business partners. ASJ Partner, Steve Isenberg gave an excellent overview of the importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Blogging, Social Media, and Mobile Apps. Essential StaffCare’s VP, John Walter’s was on hand for a rather lengthy address on the Affordable Care Act. All I need to relay to you is the title, “Proceed with Caution: Navigating the ACA Minefield”. Employers on the 50 employee threshold, google “employer look-back period” for important details. The OSSA Conference was a great opportunity to network with other Staffing Industry Professionals in Ohio and make a few new friends.

HR’s SEO Pays Off (We Think) HR Associates may not be ranked up with the top 3, Facebook, Google, and YouTube, but our SEO efforts are paying off. According to, the web has reached the one billionth website threshold this year. HR Associates is now the 12,307,676th most visited site in the world according to Yay, we think.

The “Thank You” Note

Directly after your big interview, you need to express you appreciation for the opportunity with a "Thank You" note. Too many candidates overlook the importance of a "Thank You" and if you want to be out in front of the pack, send one after every interview. As for the type of note, hand written is ALWAYS best. In

   

today’s electronic age, it is too easy to send an email but why risk your note

getting lost among the multitude of emails the Hiring Manager receives each day,

or worse yet, end up in the "Junk Mail" bin. A traditional hand written "Thank You"

note and the subsequent trip to the post office will acknowledge the Hiring

2 Tbls. A brief, thoughtful, and well written "Thank You" note could just put the finishing touch on your career search. Stand out in the sea of candidates because the Hiring Manager you interviewed yesterday may be the person in the last paragraph.

The following is a quote from concerning an interview "Thank You": "One manager I spoke with said it's not that he cares to be thanked necessarily, but he believes that someone who doesn't write a thank you shows a lack of interest in the job, a lack of thoroughness, and is basically not a serious candidate.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Set a 6-qt pot over med. heat. Add Olive Oil and pancetta until lightly brown, 3-4 minutes. Add onions & garlic and cook until translucent, 3 to 4 minutes. Add butter & flour & cook, stirring, for 3 minutes. Add 1/2 & 1/2 & whisk until smooth. Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer. Season with salt, white pepper & nutmeg and cook 3 minutes. Add the Cooked pasta to the pot & remove from the heat. Add the grated cheeses and stir to combine well. Transfer to a 3-qt baking dish. In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs with Essence and sprinkle over the top of the macaroni. Bake uncovered until golden brown, 40 to 45 minutes. Enjoy! Emeril’s Creole Essence recipe: .

HR’s New Healthcare Benefit HR Associates Plans Kings Island Picnic July 15, 2013… HR Associates’ Office Personnel will be enjoying a day at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio on August 3rd. Dinosaurs Alive, Fast Lane Passes, and a Backyard BBQ are on the agenda for HR’S Families. It looks to be an awesome day, especially for the kids. Grateful for the success of HR’s Staff this year, President, Heather Risner, wanted to reward everyone’s hard work.

September 1st is the target date for HR Associates’ Open Enrollment for a new employee Healthcare Benefit. We have partnered with Essential StaffCARE (ESC) and are currently adding an administrative module to our staffing software so employee premiums can be tracked through payroll deduction. Essential StaffCARE supplies over 600 staffing companies with a benefits program of which over 1.3 million enrollment forms are processed annually. ESC handles over 600,000 claims a year with an average turnaround of 8 days per claim. ESC is a valued partner to the American Staffing Association (ASA) and the Ohio Staffing and Search Association (OSSA).

The Essential StaffCARE Indemnity Plan will include Inpatient and Outpatient programs as well as doctor visits and a Prescription Drug (Rx) benefit. A la Carte, employees may ad Dental, Vision, Term Life, and Short Term Disability if they wish. HR Associates/ESC employee premium will be $19.98 per week up to $50.55 per week for a family plan. Two other plans for adding children only or a spouse only are available too. We are expecting enrollment forms and plan literature to arrive in the coming weeks. and fiancé, TJ have booked the all-inclusive

Dreams Resort & Spa in Cancun, Mexico for their Honeymoon. MJ’s affinity for dolphins and the resorts in-house “Swim with the Dolphins” program prompted the decision.

Home updating has been on the agenda for HR’s Manager, Heather Haines. Heather and Brian have painted the inside of their home, spruced up the front porch and are restoring the rear deck. All this hard work is for a little more curb appeal because the Haines’ are looking to buy or build a new home in Piqua. HR’s newest team member, Danielle, is “Natural” as a Recruiter because of her exceptional communication skills during HR’s Interview process. Danielle is also attending Edison Community College studying to be a Medical Assistant. Lastly, we are excited to add yet another member to our family, “D” is expecting her 1st “Little One” in December .

From The President’s Desk July 22, 2013… Attending the OSSA Conference at Put-in-Bay gave HR’s President, Heather Risner, a few insights to better client communication. Heather pointed out Keynote Speaker, Rob Mosley’s L.A.C.E.S. practice.     

Listen to what’s being said. Acknowledge the client’s perspective. Clarify to confirm an understanding of the situation. Expand by suggesting alternatives. Seek Agreement to find common ground.

Heather is excited about the upcoming “Open Enrollment” for HR’s Healthcare Benefit. She stated the #1 concern of new candidates is the availability of medical coverage. She believes this program will greatly improve HR’s ability to retain exceptional Associates.

The Home Front Heather is going to have a problem with Wright-State’s Orientation comment concerning her oldest son’s 1st day, “Get’em there, Move’em in, & say Goodbye.” She is excited for him but sad too, as any Mom would be. Heather’s High School Junior is looking forward to Frosty Brown’s Fall (Base)Ball and her 8th Grader has begun Football conditioning. Being a Sports Mom is a favorite pastime.

San Fran Business Trip (Update) Heather enjoyed the, as she put it, “more than generous” hospitality of financial partner, Bay View Funding on her recent trip to San Francisco. Improving AR methods was one of the topics of discussion. San Francisco was much more than expected and Heather believes the city’s uniqueness is an experience worth anyone’s “Bucket List”. From the Sea Lions at Pier 39, to the Golden Gate Bridge, or even “The Crookedest Street in the World” (Lombard Street), the city yearns for her “return engagement.”
