Who are the Kumeyaay? by Steven Rotsart

The Kumeyaay are the original native inhabitants of San Diego County. For over 10,000 years the Kumeyaay resided in the regions of what is today known as San Diego County, Imperial County and Baja California.

The Kumeyaay were originally hunters and gatherers. They used their extensive knowledge of environmental management, astronomy, engineering and horticulture to live and thrive in this region for thousands of years in harmony with nature. The village of Neti or Meti may have been the closest known Kumeyaay village to Mt. Helix. Their village was located in today, what is known as Spring Valley.
