Dwight Evans Assistant Coach Second Year Birmingham Southern, 1984 Dwight Evans enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Stetson men’s basketball team in 2012-13. He joined the Hatters men’s basketball coaching staff in May of 2011. With the Hatters, Evans’s primary responsibilities are coaching the post players on the court and overseeing all academic related items. He also contributes to the entire staff’s recruiting, coaching, and scouting efforts. Evans spent the 2010-11 season as associate head coach at South Carolina State, and is a 24-year veteran of the coaching ranks. His move to the Sunshine State will be nothing new for Evans, who spent one season at FIU and had two stints totaling eight years at UCF. While with the Knights, Evans helped lead UCF to three NCAA Tournament appearances in eight seasons. Over his career, Evans has coached multiple future NBA players, most recently UCF’s Conference USA Player of the Year Jermaine Taylor, who was the 32nd pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards. From 1999-2002 Evans was on staff at South Alabama, a time in which the Jaguars had two 20-win seasons, claimed a Sun Belt Conference title, and made an NIT appearance. A team captain and All-Conference/District performer at Birmingham-Southern College in 1983-84, Evans was on staff at his alma mater when the Panthers (35-2, 141-25 in five seasons) claimed the 1995 NAIA national championship. He was inducted into the B-SC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002. Evans began his coaching career at Missouri from 1988-92 under Hall of Fame Head Coach Norm Stewart. The Tigers won two Big Eight tournament titles, one regular season crown, and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including Sweet 16 run in 1989. A native of Queens, NY, Evans graduated from Birmingham-Southern in 1984 with a degree in Business Administration.
