2010 Honor Roll
When all was said and done in 2010 two Hatters were honored with All-Conference selections, one was named Freshman All-America and one was drafted into major league baseball. Junior outﬁelder Sean Emory (Miami, Fla.) was voted First Team AllAtlantic Sun Conference and Ryan Lashley (Lake Worth, Fla.) was named to the A-Sun’s All-Freshman Team. In addition Lashley was named by Collegiate Baseball as a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and earned All-Ping! Freshman Team honors. To top it off senior Jacob deGrom (DeLeon Springs, Fla.) was selected in the 9th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets.

Emory ﬁnished the season hitting .359 with six doubles, one triple, three home runs and 32 RBI. He had the second highest batting average in A-Sun games at .452. Emory played in 55 games, had 22 multiple-hit games, 11 multiple-RBI games, and a season-high hitting streak of 10 games. Emory stepped into the leadoff role on March 28 for the injured Jeff Simpson (Valrico, Fla.), and then surged at the plate. In the ﬁrst 22 games he hit just .179. After that time he shot up to 3rd on the team in batting average. Defensively, in addition to playing right ﬁeld he spent time at second base, as well as third base.

Lashley played in all 58 games with 57 starts as a freshman. He was consistent at plate all season hitting .350 in A-Sun games and .335 overall. He led team in home runs with 11, doubles with 20 and RBI with 50. He also led the Hatters in multiple RBI games with 17 and was second on team in slugging percentage at .556. The impressive newcomer had 22 multiple hit games and has been involved in 34 of 44 team double plays while playing shortstop, third base and ﬁrst base. deGrom started the season as the Hatters’ starting shortstop, as well as closer. He earned a pair of saves early on before the decision was made to move him into the rotation as the team’s Friday starter. He ended up ﬁnishing 1st on the team in ERA at 4.48 and 3rd in games started with 12. He tossed 82.1 innings most often facing the league’s top hurlers. Over the course of the season he struck out 56 batters while walking just 16. Although he was focused on the mound he still entered games in the late innings as a defensive replacement at shortstop and also spent some time as the DH. Defensively he did not commit a single error in 110 chances. Offensively he batted .263 with ﬁve doubles, one home run and nine RBI. His lone home run, the ﬁrst of his collegiate career came in the A-Sun Tournament off FGCU’s Chris Sale.
