Wylie Tucker enters his 14th season as an assistant coach with the Stetson men’s basketball program. Coach “T” handles many administrative duties such as team travel, academic planning and campus administration in addition to helping with recruiting and working with the guards. His experience, wisdom and even-hand have helped the Hatters team and coaching staff in numerous ways. He also spearheads the Hatters alternative defenses to man-toman. Tucker has served as acting head coach twice during his tenure. He helped guide the Hatters to a 71-50 victory over Campbell on Jan. 31, 2005. He was also the acting coach in a 90-78 loss at Jacksonville State on Feb. 7, 2002. Tucker joined the Hatter program from Talladega College in Alabama where he served as the head basketball coach and athletic director for 13 years. During that time he amassed a coaching record of 202 wins and 128 losses. In the 1995-96 season, Tucker guided Talladega to its first NAIA National Tournament appearance and its first Southern States Conference championship. He was also named SSC Coach of the Year. In addition to his responsibilities as athletic director, Tucker worked in other administrative areas as well. From 1984-92 he served as the Director of Career Planning and Placement. From 1991-97 he was the Dean of Students. Tucker also worked as Student Wylie Tucker was an All-American Support Program Counselor basketball player at the University and as Veterans Administration of Montevallo. Coordinator. Tucker earned both his bachelor’s (1978) and master’s (1982) degrees from the University of Montevallo in Alabama, where he was an NAIA All-American in 1978. He is currently a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). His family includes wife, Sylvia, and son, Jacoby, age fourteen.
