Newcastle University Boat Club Newsletter, September 2010 Australian University Games Update Uni Games is upon us! Crews will be making their way to Perth this weekend, with racing to commence on Wednesday the 29th of September. The NUBC is a major presence for the University at this year's Games, with our squad making up a large portion of the Newcastle University competitors at Perth. This year we are fielding a Women's Four, a Women's Quad, a Women's Eight, a Men's Double and two Men's Singles (

Planning and running of the regatta went smoothly, with most members helping out on the day. The NUBC wishes to thank all those that contributed to running the day by helping at the canteen or BRO tent. Extra thanks should go to those non-competitors who put in effort at the canteen for most of the day. Thanks also to the SES and tinny drivers who volunteered on the day.

Specific information for AUG competitors relating to accommodation, transport etc will be sent soon via email. Please check your inbox for this email. Good Luck to our AUG squad!! Pre I.V. & Henley on Hunter Regattas The NUBC held its first regatta of the season, Pre I.V., on Saturday the 11th of September. For our AUG squad, the regatta was a good lead in to Uni Games, helping crews to get back into the swing of racing. For many of our new rowers, Pre I.V. was their first experience of a regatta, and a lot of our new members walked away with medals after great performances. Results are below:

The night was a huge success, with lots of fun and many laughs had by all. This year we held an erg competition outside the Bar, which got very competitive and increasingly entertaining as the night went on! Overall the night raised around $2 500 that will go towards costs associated with sending crews to AUGs this month. Thanks to all those who helped organise and run the night, as well as those who were involved in getting prize donations. Your efforts made the night a success. Some photos are below:

NUSport Awards Friday the 27th of August saw a few NUBC members replacing their zooties with some more formal attire for the annual NUSport awards. The club attended in support of James Elliott, a past NUBC Treasurer and active club member, who was receiving a NUSport Colour Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards the running and administration of the club. Congratulations James!
