2020 / THE ONES THAT BUILT THE BRAND
JUNE TWENTIETH
TWENTY-TWENTY
Welcome to the 2020 edition of “The Ones That Built the Brand!” This is the fourth time we’ve assembled our best and most proven sows to offer them at auction and we can say with confidence, they’re as good as they’ve ever been! I am excited about this offering, but I am THRILLED to welcome all of you to The Hill for our hospitality, entertainment, and a LIVE AUCTION on June 19 & 20! 2020 is already a year we won’t soon forget. It would be very easy to use this space to get political and focus on the negativity that seems to show up everywhere we turn. Instead, I want to focus on the positive and tell you why I’m confident in the future of this business. We all know what has been cancelled. If you’re like me, you’re almost numb to what might be next. But have you noticed the resiliency of our stock show community? Have you realized over the last several weekends that livestock shows ARE happening, even when most everything else isn’t? I’m not sure I have ever been more proud of our industry and the collective ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way’ attitude it represents. There is no doubt, uncertainty reigns supreme as we near the midpoint for this year, yet amidst all this chaos, I think it’s critically important that we find opportunity in everything. What could be if we get the chance to change the status quo? Now is the time to make positive change for the future sustainability of the junior livestock program. If this time has reminded me of anything, it’s this quote: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Over the last few months, I’ve watched several groups step up, adapt, and improvise because they prioritize the youth of our industry, and they understand the value of junior livestock programs and what they represent to our communities and the Agriculture industry. Even though it felt like the whole world shut down, at the farm, we couldn’t and we didn’t. I have never been more thankful for my crew and their steadfast commitment to our cause. They never missed a day, and more importantly, they never attempted to use any of this as an excuse to do anything below our standard. Without them, the livestock offered to you in this event, the pigs we sell throughout the year, and the genetics you’ve come to trust to build your own programs simply would not be possible. Our measure of success is directly tied to the success of our customers and, by all accounts, the last couple of years have been extremely successful. There have been many wins to celebrate and many of the sows responsible for that success can be found in the pages of this catalog. Our current inventory at HH is as high as it’s ever been, and for that reason alone, we can say with confidence this set is the best we’ve offered to date. Yet beyond just numbers, this group of sows represent as much proven revenue-generating ability as we’ve put together and the open females represent a rare and exclusive opportunity to select from the very top of the inventory we’ve developed at The Slat Barn. Altogether, this offering is deep, it’s diverse, and every animal in the offering was engineered with show ring success in mind. On behalf of the entire HH crew, I invite you to join us at the farm on June 19th & 20th for the Ones That Built the Brand.

CLONING RIGHTS
Heimer Hampshires reserves the right to collect DNA samples, for cloning purposes, on all animals selling in this sale.
GUARANTEE
All sows cataloged with a due date and service sire will sell bred unless otherwise noted on sale day. Sows offered as bred on sale day are guaranteed to be carrying a litter. In the event a sow becomes open, buyer and seller will convene to determine fair adjustment using the 60%(sow)/40%(litter) baseline for determining value. Any major farrowing issues will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis with no guarantee as buyer’s farrowing management is out of control of seller. All open gilts were fed at an off-site, slatted finishing building until they were moved back to the main farm May 27. They have been vaccinated and conditioned for breeding in the same manner that we incorporate all of our replacement females at Heimer Hampshires. They are guaranteed to breed and, if desired, we are willing to provide guidance for optimum results.
ALL FEMALES PURCHASED IN THE 2020 THE ONES THAT BUILT THE BRAND SALE – SOWS & OPEN GILTS – ARE ELIGIBLE FOR ‘BUY 1, GET SECOND DOSE FREE’ SEMEN ON ALL ELIGIBLE HH SIRES FOR THE REMAINING 2020 BREEDING SEASON. THIS OFFER EXPIRES 12/31/2020.
DELIVERY
Load Out will be available immediately following the conclusion of the sale on Saturday night, June 20 until dark, and again on Sunday morning, June 21, after 8 am. Cooperative delivery is available. Specific dates and routes will be determined following the sale based on need, however, HH routes to the SW, North and East are likely.

WHAT MAKES A PROVEN SOW?
From the beginning, our approach to marketing has always been focused on the female. The confidence we have
in the show pigs, boars and bred females we sell is largely based on the track record of the sows behind them. ‘Foundation female’ is often used in our industry to describe females, but it’s our belief that designating one as a ‘foundation female’ doesn’t automatically mean she’s proven. So the big question: What makes a proven sow? The answer isn’t always easy, so in an effort to simplify, we categorized four ways we consider our sows to be proven.
HER ABILITY TO
GENERATE DOLLARS HER ABILITY TO
INFLUENCE FUTURE GENERATIONS HER ABILITY TO
RAISE COMPETITIVE SHOW PIGS PROVEN BY PEDIGREE
This seems obvious, but it’s often overlooked or even dismissed. Usually, the sows that generate dollars are the same sows that hit for the cycle and eventually accomplish all four of these qualities in their lifetime.
Sows that produce boars and gilts that transmit the best traits of the sow family to the next generation are a true testament to the genetic makeup of a sow. Sows with this ability can prove themselves for multiple generations.
Even though it’s often subjective, our industry still considers show ring success the ultimate measuring stick. There’s only one grand at every show, so the ability to compete at the highest level remains a worthy achievement.
The littermates to winners, the full sib to a popular boar or the maternal sister to the best sow often get a second look, not because they are more proven than the rest, but because their pedigree says they could be.

The ONLY littermate sister to KOH & Little Bro – both are tried and true sires that have truly impacted crossbred pedigrees from coast to coast. She stems from a highly potent sow family that originated at 4K Farms. Her mother, 240-12 sold for $12,000 in the ’19 Exchange to Ottenwalter Showpigs. *Note, 154-7, 45-8 & 78-10 within this sale all stem from the same sow family. Vividly remember the day that our good friend Will Hilty offered everything except his first born in order to load this one up at the slat barn – she’s ALWAYS been elite. Mother of KING ME and most recently, produced a $4,000 gilt in the Spring Showcase Sale, sired by Unlocked. This mating to Goose Chase has as much true ‘boar-making’ potential as any in this entire offering.

MOTHER OF THE RESERVE GRAND BARROW AT 2019 HOUSTON!!
She’s a littermate to ‘Sparkles’ at Goss Livestock, the mother of the Grand Barrow at 2019 Colorado State Fair and several other backdrop winning showpigs. Pedigree hacks will appreciate that the Born Ready sow on the bottom side is also the mother of 122-13, the sow behind the 271 Visionary’s featured in this sale and several others that have made their mark and found their place in previous BTB catalogs. Bottom line, there are plenty of reasons why this sow produced a Major Show Reserve Grand and we haven’t even mentioned her sire. KMS daughters check the box for every metric that matters when it comes to females and this one does it at a higher level than most. We used JoJo with confidence and many of our very best females are carrying his service. If he works where we think he’ll work, this mating should be as good as it gets!

Visionary females are proven difference makers industry-wide, and for us, these 271’s have proven that to be true. It’s fair to give props to Visionary. but the bottom side tells the whole story. Mother of the 271’s is 122-13, a Full Strut daughter that sold in the 2017 BTB. In her day, 122-13 generated a handful of very competitive barrows, but the gift that keeps on giving are her daughters. Her Massive Monster daughter (7-8) that also sold in the 2017 sale was the mother of ‘Rizzo’ and the 5th Overall Gilt at OYE. Another daughter (7-5) produced the Champion Cross Gilt at FTW and yet another daughter (33-7) is the mother of a pair of up-and-coming Provoked daughters. • One could make a strong argument that this one, 271-9 is the most consistent generator of the four sisters. • Her Dirty Secret litter included a 3rd Place Light Cross Barrow at 2019 Rodeo Austin and a $15,000 gilt we reluctantly sold out of the slat barn to Warner & Ehrman in Ohio. • Multiple pigs in her Goosebumps litter that we sold in the January Online Sale of this year have been competitive in the virtual show world and we will always wonder what-if the Exposition would’ve happened. • Her March-born litter sired by Kingpin was too good to pass up the opportunity to do it again and like her sisters, we opted for the repeat mating.

Going forward, 271-6 will be defined by the 206 litter Dirty Bill daughters that we retained. Case in point, check out 86-9, the Octagon-sired open gilt in this sale who is out of one of those Dirty Bill daughters. Like her sister (271-9) this sow also had a very good litter sired by Goosebumps that were highlights in the January Online Sale. They didn’t get a chance to compete where we hoped, but they were undoubtedly the kind we love to sell. Again, just like her sisters, her March-born litter sired by Kingpin proved once again it works and ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!’ She’s carrying a Kingpin litter that will fit nearly every market.

Not as proven as her sisters, but admittedly, her track record (or lack thereof) has more to do with bad luck and poor decisions than her ability. Had every intention to get this one bred to Kingpin (the only sister that hasn’t been mated that way yet), but it wasn’t meant to be. We’ve always believed great sows can make any boar famous and we’re confident this mating will elevate King Me’s profile.

We try very hard around here to avoid using ‘best’ to describe anything, but from the minute he was found in the crate at a day old, Goosebumps was his name. He was big at birth, he was easy to spot on any given day and by weaning time, he was a man among boys. The bottom side of his pedigree is lined up and stacked with predictability from our most trusted sow family – Black Attack 53-11 – and in many ways, Goosebumps is ‘Built the Brand Royalty!’ His mother (164-4 Distinct) sold for $15,500, ½ interest in the 2019 Built the Brand Sale. His grandmother (85-12 Gone Viral) sold for $25,500 in the 2017 Built the Brand Sale, with even more acclaim. And finally, his great grandmother (3-6 Swagger) sold for $20,000 in the 2015 Built the Brand Sale. We’ve used several Dirty Secret sons – here, there and everywhere – and while we won’t suggest here that Goosebumps is better than the rest, we will say with confidence that he consistently sires a unique combination of showpig look and presence with true market hog function relative to appetite, durability and performance – traits that aren’t usually connected. His strong fertility has afforded us the opportunity to meet demand and it’s been enjoyable to watch him impact so many firms in such a positive way. He regularly gets evaluated and considered as a barrow sire, however, his tendencies are proving that its highly likely he’ll make his biggest contribution to our firm and many others, through his daughters.

The 2020 version of Goosebumps! Shares many of the same advantages of his sire – tall shouldered, neat look, strong pasterns – with more structure and proportionality. Our Vendetta sows generate quality every time and his granddam is a littermate to Contagious (linebred Priceless pedigree). No doubt, Goose Chase was the most popular boar on tours this spring at the farm. There were offers to sell, but we resisted the urge and stayed the course. We BELIEVE in this one and that’s why so many in this offering are carrying his service.
Golden Goose was the keeper boar out of 225-6 from the litter she was carrying last summer when she sold in the 2019 BTB Sale to Ben Cooley. An outlier at birth and weaning, GG looked like a herd boar from the start. His mate barrows were the top sellers in the fall bid-board sale at the farm and his mate sisters sold in the Kings of the Hill Sale and Power Female Sale respectively. We made a joint decision with Ben to keep Golden Goose exclusive for the spring so we could each focus on getting our own sows bred and continued to make big plans 2ND PLACE LIGHTWEIGHT for his future. Unfortunately, his time was 2020 DENVER LITTERMATE TO GOLDEN GOOSE short and his future is pretty limited to the here and now. We lost him unexpectedly a month ago and with no frozen semen on hand, the sows we bred at our collective firms represent the only litters there will be out of Golden Goose. There are incredible sows in this catalog that carry his service and represent a Golden opportunity to have something very rare! WWW.HEIMERHAMPS.COM

RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION BARROW 2020 SAN ANTONIO KINGPIN X 271-11 (LOT 5)
SIRE: KING OF THE HILL DAM: DIRTY SECRET X SWAGGER CROSSBRED Kingpin wasn’t an accident. In fact, he is the result of one of the first double-bred Dirty Secret mating’s we made. His mother was a littermate to the Grand Overall Barrow at 2018 National Western and Reserve Division I Cross Gilt at Arizona National. She might have been Reserve Division as a show gilt, but she will always be considered the best daughter we retained from more than 100 litters sired by Dirty Secret. The littermate to Kingpin was in his class at 2019 Rodeo Austin and his maternal sibs include Prison Rules at HH and his sister, the Supreme Champion Gilt at 2019 American Royal. In very limited use, several of our top sellers in the fall 2019 sale season were sired by Kingpin – including our lead off at Battle for the Banner, lead off at Major League and our $15,000 gilt at Perfect Timing, among others. From that first crop, his signature win came at 2020 San Antonio when he sired the Reserve Grand Barrow. We will forever be proud of that barrow and his genuine quality gives us optimism about Kingpin’s future as a sire. His fertility limited his use late last summer and early fall, however, by the end of 2019 we were able to breed a large percentage of our sows and still offer limited semen to a few colleagues. He sired high sellers for Final Drive Genetics, Hilty Showpigs, Coulson Showpigs, Brockman Farms and Rival Genetics, among others, and we were impressed with the set of pigs he sired here. We didn’t sell very much Kingpin semen this spring and instead kept our focus on breeding sows. You will note that several within this offering are carrying Kingpin litters and that wasn’t an accident either!

Littermate to the Supreme Champion Gilt at ’19 American Royal. Shares the same dam as Kingpin, but offers more spread, shape and shear muscle than his maternal brother. Rule 21 influence on the top side reaches back to the Black Attack sow family we’ve always relied on – be sure to read the Knauth Showpigs success story in this catalog.

Around here, she has been THE GONE VIRAL sow to those who’ve fed pigs out of her and that list is long. Her littermate barrow was Champion Lightweight Cross at the 2016 American Royal. Her mother (240-13) is a littermate to the mother of KOH, Little Bro & 6112 who sells as Lot 1. Unfortunately, we lost 240-13 to a freak accident after weaning her first litter. • We will always remember ‘Shadow’ (Grand Barrow) first when we think about 2018 San Antonio, but our second favorite barrow that year was a 4th Place Other Cross, sired by Dirty Secret and out of 1547 – littermate to 45-8 who sells as Lot 12. • We have retained daughters out of Dirty Secret, Hot Check, Dirty South and KOH. • Her litter sired by Never Before was very popular in the June 3rd Sale – top selling barrows at $3700 & $2650, mate sisters at $3500, $2500, $2000 & $1750. • Her udder took a major hit over two years ago and she’s no longer able to nurse very many pigs. For that reason, we are only offering 50% interest and will continue to run her here. Note, she had 13 out of Never Before and we’re confident she isn’t done yet! • This mating to Kingpin will offer her new owner a tremendous investment opportunity or better yet, 242-10 a jump to the front of the line for access to her HOT CHECK X 154-7 daughters – now and every litter in her future.

Uber impressive daughter of one of our favorite sows, THE Gone Viral 154-7. The 45 litter was very popular and high selling in our September 2017 Online Sale. Three of those barrows were shown and ended up Reserve Grand at ’18 Randall County, TX, 4th Other Cross at ’18 San Antonio and 2nd in Class at ’18 National Western. Top-selling barrow prospect in our January 2020 Online Sale was a Goosebumps out of 45-8. While you won’t see many bred to Steel Town in this sale lineup, rest assured that there are several sows & gilts at the 2ND IN CLASS farm carrying his service. As the boar 2018 DENVER without Dirty Secret in his pedigree, we LITTERMATE TO 45-8 believe he has a place and we’re very excited about this mating.

The 239 litter was one of the very first at HH sired by Dirty Secret. These two sisters are mates to Dirty Bill at SGI and Dirty 239, the one we kept. 74-8, the dam of the 239’s, sold in the 2017 BTB Sale to Jordan Leatherman/Final Drive Genetics. If you’ve followed our program, you’ll know that the bottom side of the pedigree quickly traces back to 53-11, the Black Attack sow who earned a special burial plot on the farm. 239-12 will undoubtedly be popular on sale day. She’s in good shape, resembles everything we believe a showpig-generating sow should be and looks to be carrying a big litter of Cheetah’s – the popular new sire at SGI.

She’s been Miss Reliable and our future hope rests on a pair of daughters – one sired by Unlocked (mate to the Iowa barrow) and another sired by KOH. • She’s due later than ideal for most folks, but don’t ignore the potential value of this Kingpin litter, regardless of age.

Bottom side of the pedigree stems back to the 7-3 Super Monster from Kent McLemore, the full sister to the mother of Colt 45. This sow has been a very solid producer of babies that are easy to sell. Admittedly, she hasn’t notched a signature win or accomplishment like her sister, but we’re very confident this JoJo mating will give her the best chance she’s had to add to her resume.

This Fortune Cookie daughter truly resembles the type and kind of sow we’ve always relied on for our barrowfocused effort. She runs uphill, she’s extra good in her elevation and extension upfront and her skeleton is heavy duty. She’ll never look soft or chubby, even as she hits the crate, but sows like this never go out of style around here. Her littermate sister has been a great generator for Denny Showpigs, producing incredible litters sired by Dirty Secret & Little Bro, among others. To date, the best litters out of 175-7 were sired by Little Bro, Shadow and most recently, White Walker at Top Cut. Our KMS sows flat generates and these 15 litter sows continue to get it done. They are unmatched in their ability to consistently transmit look and build. Dam is 111-10, best known as Cookie’s littermate sister that sold in the 2017 BTB Sale 15-6 has been bred to Short Bus, KOH, Shadow and Wags, but her Goosebumps litter last fall was her best yet. Both of these 15’s are bred to JoJo and again, if he sires like we believe he will, this should be their best litters yet.

Littermate to the $120,000 the Hill – Grand Overall at the 2017 NSR Fall Classic that sold to Moyer/Genetic Edge. Extremely powerful daughter of THE MOTHER OF KMS that originally sold as our Power Female Consignment in the Fall of 2017. T118 wasn’t perfect, but he sired more bone, feature and substance than any other boar we’ve ever used. It’s worth mentioning that T118’s mother is 108-10, the grandmother to Little Bro, KOH and their sister 61-12 – Lot 1. 28-10 Swagger sow on the bottom side will always rank high all-time among Swagger daughters. Her influence was far and wide and has been prevalent in every BTB sale. To date, we’ve stayed on the safe side when mating this one, but even so, the Dirty South daughter we retained last year is without question, the most extreme South daughter we’ve produced. Bred to Prison Rules, the maternal brother to Kingpin and carrying a litter that has boar potential written all over it.

Littermate to T76. Another daughter of the Mother of KMS. The T118 litter out of 137-11 was incredible and T122 was actually collected at 5+ months of age in order to breed 137-11 for this litter. Admittedly, T76 got lost in the Dirty Secret shuffle and didn’t get nearly as much use as he deserved, but he still made an impact. We have several daughters with potential and recently used a son, Kaw-Liga at Brinning’s. This is the youngest sow in the offering and for those who want it early, this one has as much blue sky as any. We might be selling this one too soon, but we’re hopeful her Little Bro daughter will carry the torch for this sow line. She’s bred to Decisive, the popular Dirty South son we sold to SGI. Those who care about pedigrees will find plenty of intrigue with 166-6. Sired by KMS and the Monster Pipe sow on the bottom side is the mother of Kiss My Hocks! We have a Dirty Deal daughter retained and had VERY high hopes for her Basecamp son until an unfortunate injury took him out of consideration. Her most recent litter was sired by Goosebumps and there’s a gilt from that litter that will be in the next group of keepers to come back to the farm. Even before we lost him, we already had reservations about selling sows bred to Golden Goose, the Goosebumps son out of 225-6 (Verbatim x Roxy). He was used exclusively by HH and Flatland Showpigs, CO – the firm that bought 50% of 225-6 in last year’s BTB Sale and unfortunately, we lost him unexpectedly at the end of breeding season. Unlimited potential with this sow and especially this mating.

Littermate to T122 and Mother of King of Queens at Triple B Sires. Direct daughter of 12-37, one of the most well-known BTB success stories that is further outlined in this year’s catalog. At HH today, there are few sows more prevalent in pedigrees than 12-37. Littermate to 122-5, the mother of Straight South at SGI. We’ve retained daughters from her litters sired by Dirty South, KOH & Goosebumps. Her Instigate litter sold in the Spring Showcase at the farm earlier this year. This one is always fun to show on sow tours and is sure to impress on sale day. Her mother, 55-8 was one of the very best American Bad Boy sows to work here. She didn’t sell in a BTB Sale, but did sell as a bred sow in a joint December sale with Lettow Showpigs. Bottom side of pedigree is the same sow family responsible for 277-8 & 102-3 – both in this sale. Her Dirty South litter in the fall of 2018 was one of our best that sale season and her Kingpins are at the top end of the group to sell June 3rd. We resisted the urge to breed her back to Kingpin and opted for Goose Chase. We believe you’ll like the choice when you see him on sale day.

Mother of the blue Dirty South gilt shown by the Col Family at 2019 Arizona National. We had hopes to sell this one bred to Kracker for a white litter, but it wasn’t in the cards. Yorkshire-sired crossbred sows are versatile, and we hope the Renaissance crossbred daughters in the pipeline can make the same kind of impact that this one did. Worth noting here that Chaos sired the Grand Overall Barrow at 2017 Rodeo Austin and the Reserve Grand Barrow at 2017 Arizona National We’ve retained very good daughters from her litters sired by Basecamp & Octagon. Admittedly, Goosebumps isn’t getting much love as a service sire in this sale but it’s primarily because most of these sows have already farrowed a litter out of him. This sow hasn’t and his advantages as a sire should work very well here.

Badboy 189 was ahead of his time in terms of bone and feature. We badly wanted to turn him loose, but his fertility never allowed. We only had a couple litters and the best of those litters were a pair of full sisters – 242-10 and 208-5 – out of littermate sows that both sold in the 2017 BTB Sale. 242-10 was the mother of the $17,000 prospect at Perfect Timing that was 2nd in the Lightweight Other Crosses at 2019 Houston. 208-5 has had several good litters, but one of her best was the 122 litter last fall sired by Provoked. Three of those 122’s highlighted our sales group at 2019 Perfect Timing and we were eager to watch those barrows finish at Houston & OYE. Her most recent litter was sired by Dirty Love’n and those were top sellers in our April Online Sale. Descendants of the 53-11 Black Attack sow have always had the same look, basic build and incredible rear leg. This one represents all of that to the highest degree and this mating to Golden Goose will only elevate her status.

Granddaughter of 122-13, the Full Strut mother of the 271’s that sell in this sale. The 28-10 Swagger sow on the bottom side is the same sow behind KMS. She worked in Dirty South so well that we did it twice. She’s also been bred to Waiver Wire and Made 2 Order. We realize she’s bred late but some of you have a market for April shows and in the last couple years, there has been no shortage of demand for September-born gilts.
