NEWEST 2013 BEAUTY TRENDS
From nougat to bittersweet chocolate to caramel, this spring/summer 2013 pays homage to the wonderful world of brown. Models at Cavalli, Gucci and Versace sported the look. At Cavalli, delicate earth-tones were kicked up a notch by black-lined cat eyes. Subtle tone-on-tone color palettes and mega lashes livened Gucci’s runway, while Versace played a dangerously sexy game with shimmering brown smoky eyes enhanced by strong lower lashes.

We’re shouting a resounding yes for bright, colorful lips – but hold the gloss, please. This season, lips are sporting their hellohues in sophisticated matte. Burberry, Missoni and Giles led the way in their spring/summer 2013 shows, Burberry with bluetoned reds and Missoni with orange-kissed coral. Giles took the “pretty in pink” route (but without the Barbie attitude). These tasty pouts are hot, so keep the eye makeup toned down.

Beauty bloggers, fashionistas and models love the knot. Now, this simple, on-the-go hairstyle has made it to “it-look” status – but kick that high ballerina bun and its messy cousin to the curb. Erdem, Ralph Lauren and Valentino all twisted a new knot. These buns are low and elegant. At Erdem and Ralph Lauren, the knots were sleekly pulled back, while Valentino featured an intentionally “undone” variation.

Welcoming a fresh start for the good old ponytail: casually cool and on the cutting edge of fashion. Anna Sui’s models wore their ponytails pulled back with a simple band at midlevel, while Dior and Jil Sander employed refined, low-slung ponytails. These glossy-sleek coifs featured a middle part and strategically misplaced strands. Say goodbye to the boring, outof-your-face standby – this ponytail has a new lease on life.

Nothing gives you that bit of “Saint Tropez in the 60ʼs” flair like a cloth accent for your hair, as the crew at Dolce & Gabbana know. While the Italians were all about brightlypainted silks paired with flashy earrings, at Rochas, the effect was a little more high-couture. There, models wore bright, draping hair scarves for a truly fabulous effect.

Repeat after us: Big lashes are beautiful. Armani, Gucci, Versace and Moschino all made a splash with eyelashes this season. No need to disguise your fake lashes anymore – the bigger, the better. Moschino’s mega lashes were the perfect finishing touch for its retro looks. Gucci showed off technically precise lash skills, while Versace and Armani took a subtler route, with classic lashes that packed a punch.

The swinging sixties were back on the catwalk at both Marc Jacobs and Moschino. Lush, broad brows (put down the tweezers!), long lashes, ingenious eye shadows in white and gray were paired with bright-nude lips at Marc Jacobs or prominent fake lashes and coral-orange lips at Moschino. Of course, no sixties look would be complete without big, teased hair and a deep side part.

FROM ARIES TO AQUARIUS, THIS YEAR’S HOROSCOPE HOLDS SENSATIONAL SURPRISES IN THE REALMS OF LOVE, WORK AND BEAUTY. IS THERE A NEW MAN IN STORE? A PROMOTION AT WORK? WHATEVER 2013 HAS PLANNED, WE’VE GOT THE BEAUTY TIPS YOU’LL NEED TO SEE YOU THROUGH THE YEAR.
The ambitious Capricorn woman seems to be fighting with herself in matters of money and the heart. But don’t worry: the second half of the year will be smoother sailing. Keep your eye out for efficient, high-tech products. LOVE: When it comes to love, Capricorn women can be a bit bull-headed, something your significant other will feel keenly in the beginning of the year. Don’t be so hard on him! You’ll be feeling calmer come spring – and your relationship will benefit from the effect. If you’re single, try not to be too judgmental on a first date – he might just turn out to be your Prince Charming! CAREER: You might be feeling stubborn when it comes to your colleagues. Avoid getting snappy or grumpy – even though that’s exactly the way you feel. As the year progresses, the world will start to look less complicated. Take a few deep breaths and try not to stress. BEAUTY: An extremely disciplined Capricorn woman requires the same level of performance from her beauty products. High-tech textures can be a good investment, from scientifically advanced anti-aging creams to lipsticks whose ingredients both plump your lips and make them look younger.

Excitement on the horizon! Get ready to navigate both a new love and some tension at work. The trick: stay one step ahead with the most innovative beauty trends. LOVE: Aquarius looking for love can finally breathe easy. In 2013, the carousel of love is turning once again, and your solo time could be coming to an end. Aquarius is in high demand this year – those in a relationship should be wary of “harmless” flirtations… CAREER: Creative, free-loving Aquarius women have plenty of good ideas – but be careful of envious colleagues trying to block your path. Don’t let catty office behavior hold you back. Keep working diligently – especially as the summer approaches. Less beach time might not sound so fun, but it will pay off in the end. BEAUTY: Trendsetter Aquarius should stay on top of the newest beauty products. Get the hottest scents and makeup before everyone else and you’ll be a style icon. But be sure not to “over-style” yourself. Stick to natural makeup or trendy statement looks, like dramatic cat eyes or bright coral lipstick, for big events. www.glossybox.xy/magazine | 21
TAURUS April 20 - May 20
February 29 - March 20
2013 is the year of confidence for sensitive Pisces women. Get ready to be bold in your career as well as in your love life. To match, this year’s beauty look is delicate but pepped up with a brighter-than-usual color for you: aqua. LOVE: Though known for your reserve, you’ll be feeling a push of confidence in 2013 – a quality sure to make you more attractive to your dream guy. If you’re single, now’s the time to do a little fishing. Those who are already committed should place more emphasis on the relationship – you’ll be sure to feel the return. CAREER: Be wary of an opportunity that seems too good to be true – not all that glitters is gold. Examine your options carefully for potential pitfalls and stay true to yourself in salary negotiations. With a bit of caution, you can keep the career year 2013 on your side. BEAUTY: A delicate woman needs a delicate scent. Play into your watery sign with a fresh fragrance, like Armani’s Aqua di Goia, and simple makeup. You won’t go wrong with soft pink or simple, nude-glossed lips and a light skin shimmer. Pick up the look with some aqua tones, like blue and turquoise, both trend colors for 2013.

As a powerful Aries woman, you tend to approach problems in love and work with ferocity. For your sanity this year, it’s important to separate your work life and private life. Instead, let your style speak for your strength. LOVE: If you’re with someone, now is the time to invest – being lazy and taking your partner for granted will put your relationship at risk. Singles have plenty of opportunities – take advantage of all your party invites and flirt away! CAREER: Those who sowed in the last year can reap the fruits this 2013. However, be careful that your job doesn’t push itself into your private life too much. Don’t be afraid to take a step back. BEAUTY: To leave your work day behind, invest in de-stressing products, like relaxing lavender massage oils and face masks. Bold looks are perfect for all the parties you’ll be attending: try statement red lips or expressive eyeliner.
In 2013, Taurus women will need to find the balance between love and work. Let your makeup keep you grounded: browns, from cappuccino to caramel let this sensual Earth-sign glow. LOVE: In the first half of the year, love is easy and carefree. Come September, things might get a little tricky. If you’re in a relationship, watch out for a dangerous temptation. While singles have the best chance for romance in the summer, don’t let yourself be fooled by wannabe princes – they’re all around! CAREER: The beginning of the year might get off to a slow start, but what you’re working on now will be crucial for the future. Continue to make good contacts and a good impression on the people who count – they’ll come in handy later on, when things start moving forward. BEAUTY: Sensual Taurus women will do well with Earth tones. Eyes in elegant browns and shimmering chocolates, bronzer for a discrete glow and caramelcolored lipsticks or glosses leave you looking seductive and refined.
Surprises are all around for this creative air sign in 2013. An old flame makes a reappearance, work colleagues you normally get along with might give you a bit of trouble and big experiments in style will completely transform your look. LOVE: Your best chances for romance are in the spring, but whether these first flutters of love will last, only time will tell. A “blast from the past” could make a reappearance – and a person you’ve known for a long time might choose to show a new side. Nothing will be what you expected! CAREER: You might find yourself a bit at odds with bosses and colleagues alike. Though you have plenty of good ideas, getting someone to listen might be a bit of a challenge. Keep pushing through – things will start to relax in the fall and the rewards will start rolling in. BEAUTY: Gemini women will find themselves changing their style with an alarming frequency this year. But just go with the flow! Experiment with super-glossy pink lips, colored eye shadows or bright statement nails, trendy clip-in extensions or the hottest new hair color. You’ve got the panache to pull it off! www.glossybox.xy/magazine | 23
June 22 - July 22
In 2013, Cancer women will have a hard time fending off their many admirers – but that won’t mean you can just sit back and rest on your laurels, especially when it comes to your career. With all the attention, steer clear of stress by taking care of your body as well as your mind. LOVE: 2013 is your year for love: everyone has their eye on you. Singles have their pick of the pile; if you’re already committed, get ready for outstanding romance. But watch out: flirting for fun might take a serious turn – only you can decide how far you’ll go. CAREER: Your career seems to be smooth sailing – but don’t relax just yet! Keep on trucking, or else all your hard work might go to waste. Cancer women are known for their precision. Put it to use and you’ll go very, very far. BEAUTY: Cancer women have skin that’s just as sensitive as they are. Invest in quality hypoallergenic beauty products for stressed skin, such as facial masks and high-end skin creams. Look for additive-free products from brands like PAI Organic Skincare or rms beauty.
It’s getting hot in here! Otherwise calm Virgos are getting fired up for love and work in 2013. Your secret beauty weapon for the year? Luxury. LOVE: Modest Virgo women should stay away from using cheap tricks like low-cut shirts and on-the-offense flirting to snag a man. Your charm is of a subtler nature. Yet come fall 2013, even Virgos will be seeing some spicy action: get ready for sexy rendezvous and wild adventures. CAREER: Even though you’re a loyal and hard worker, your reticence might hold you back in your job. Good news: this is the year for big chances! Don’t be afraid to beat your own drum a bit and watch the rewards roll in! BEAUTY: Virgo women value quality, and quantity over quality has never been your thing, even when it comes to beauty. You’d rather invest in a slightly more expensive high-end product, like a good skin cream or luxury lipstick. We recommend a sophisticated matte red from Chanel or YSL. Subdued green eye shadows to match your birthstone, jade, will have you sitting in the lap of luxury.

Big things are coming your way this year, but be on the lookout for others envious of your good fortune. Let your look be as big as you feel: teased hair, bright lips and come-hither scents. The world is yours! LOVE: Leo women are love’s favorites, so when it comes to love, you throw hesitation out the window. If you’re already in a relationship, this will be a year of passion. Single Leos should get ready for the hunt – men won’t be able to resist your sex appeal! CAREER: Leos love to be in charge, and there’s a good chance a promotion to put you closer to the top is coming your way. Your biggest obstacle is envy, but don’t waste time on jealousy. With your drive, you’re bound to reach your goals! Just be sure you’re not dragging any freeloaders with you. BEAUTY: Make a splash with red lips, big hair, lusciously long eyelashes, a shimmering, tan glow and deeply contoured cheekbones – or whatever style you fancy – you’ve got the glam factor to rock it. Don’t be afraid of luxury products this year – they’ll put you in a league of your own.
Libra is facing some hard times ahead in love this year, but look for big successes at work. Invest in harmonic beauty goodies to reconcile the two. LOVE: The beginning of the year promises to be a bit turbulent for the otherwise balanced Libra. Feelings of dissatisfaction and boredom might lead you to make some important decisions about your relationship. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll have to live with the consequences. Things are looking up in the second half of the year. If you’re single, now could be the time for true love. CAREER: You’ll make up for your trouble in love with great successes at work. 2013 holds big opportunities for Libra. Your good judgment will get you ahead with bosses and colleagues alike. BEAUTY: Your motto is balance in beauty. Wellness goodies which harmonize body and soul, like high-end bath salts, energizing fragrances or calming, organic beauty products are those you’ll want to buy this year. www.glossybox.xy/magazine | 25
October 24 - November 22
Obstinate and sexy at the same time – Scorpio women can be a handful. But use your wiles to your advantage. You’ve got what it takes to bring in the admirers – and the dough at work. The look to match?: Drama with a capital D, baby! LOVE: Excitable, irritable and seductive Scorpio women might be looking at stormy seas in the year ahead. Conflicts will lead to conclusive decisions – one way or another. The second half of the year holds some interesting encounters, however. Men can’t resist your beguiling charms, and you’ll work that to your advantage. But be aware: among all of the Mister Right Nows, you might just find a Mister Right. CAREER: Use the first half of the year to bring your chickens home to roost. Big projects are at hand and now is the time to cash in on the lucrative chances you’ve been offered. Decide which projects will get you the farthest and pursue those full speed ahead. BEAUTY: Hello, drama queen. Scorpio women pull of intense looks with ease: seductive, dark red lips, dangerously smoky eyes tinged with dark violet and berry accents or dramatic nails painted in bold colors.
Get ready for change! 2013 is your year for something new – in both your love life and your career. And your look? Yes, that’ll be new too. LOVE: This is the year to think about where you want to be when it comes to love. You might need to ask yourself some hard questions about your relationship, if you’re currently in one. You may feel the need to talk with your partner about what’s missing. If you can’t reach a solution, it might be time for something new. Singles can look forward to some heart-racing encounters. CAREER: If you’ve been dissatisfied with your job, this is the year to reevaluate your position and follow your dreams. Keep your eyes and ears open for new opportunities – you won’t be disappointed! BEAUTY: Harness your energy and optimism to free yourself of old, boring beauty habits. How about a new look, a new haircut or a complete makeover? Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb – but stick with something uncomplicated and fresh: natural makeup, moisturizing hair and body care and lightly scented perfumes should all find their way into your beauty case. 26 | www.glossybox.xy/magazine
