Elaborando una reflexión sobre lo que le rodea, el hombre ha dado vida a creencias y mitologías tales como las relativas al origen del mundo y del propio ser humano, que inevitablemente se hallan suspendidas entre la realidad y la suposición. Las 180 estatuillas de arcilla cruda que forman la obra Plotzlich diese Obersicht (1981), de Peter Fischli y David Weiss, refieren a mitologías varias, abarcando un abanico que incluye desde escenas simbólicas inspiradas en las vidas de deidades griegas hasta retratos de bastante mas banales mi tos contemporaneos, como el automóvil. Pero la mitología se basa siempre en la relación del hombre con la naturaleza, y constituye el fundamento de memorias culturales persistentes. Así, en This is not a Taiwan Pavilion ("Este no es un pabellón taiwanés", muestra paralela organizada en el Palazzo delle Prigioni por el Taipei Fine Arts Museum), el artista Chia-Wei Hsu desliza las tomas de diferentes muros, de la piedra al ladrillo; de diferentes criaturas, desde hombres hasta animales jadeantes; de diferentes ritos, desde suntuosas y variopintas mascaradas orientales hasta solemnes procesiones a la orilla del agua. Son tantas las ideas y las memorias del mundo, que persisten aun cuando ya el mundo ha dejado de serio. ¿Pero qué lo ha hecho desaparecer? Unos pocos fragmentos de la imaginación evocan, en primera instancia, eventos problematicos, conflictos, crisis ... Merece la pena entrar en el Pabellón Britanico, donde el tríptico mural de Jeremy Deller representa la rebelión del hombre contra el hombre en la ciudad incendiada de Sl Helier on Fire 2017; la rebelión de la naturaleza contra el hombre con la gigante ave rapaz que aprisiona en sus garras un coche como si fuera un roedor; y la rabia de la divinidad contra el hombre en la imagen en la que un Poseidón contemporaneo arremete contra un ostentoso yate. Es cierto que el hombre no parece consciente de la situación actual. En el filme documental realizado por Khaled Ramadan para el Pabellón de las Maldivas se pone en evidencia que la población del archipiélago parece ignorar el riesgo inminente de desaparición que supone para ellos el calentamiento global, ya que estas islas presentan la menor elevación en el mundo con respecto al nivel del mar, y este nivel esta subiendo. Las obras presentadas en el Pabellón de las Maldivas giran todas en torno a este asunto, bajo el título general de Portable
and initially published in 2009, were considered by their author as "exercises of the imagination" and are seen by Massimiliano Gioni as the ideal ''epicentre" of his entire exhibition project for the Biennale. Preparing a reflection about what surrounds us, man has given life to beliefs and mythologies such as those related to the origin of the world and of human beings themselves that inevitably are found suspended between reality and supposition. The 180 raw clay figurines that form the work Plotzlich diese Übersicht (1981) by Peter Fischli and David Weiss reflect severa! mythologies, covering a range that includes from symbolic scenes inspired by the !ives of Greek dei ties to portraits of quite more banal contemporary myths, like the automobile. But mythology is always based on the relationship of humankind with nature, and forms the foundation of persistant cultural memories. That way, in This is nota Taiwan Pavilion (parallel exhibition organised in the Palazzo delle Prigioni by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum), Chia-Wei Hsu shows images of different walls, from stone to brick; of different creatures, from man to breathless animals; of different rites, from sumptuous and multi-coloured oriental masquerades to solemn processions to the shore. There are so many ideas and memori es of the world that they still persist even when the world has ceased to be. But what made it disappear? Some few fragments of imagination evoke, at first instance, problematic events, conflicts, crisis... It is worth entering the British Pavilion, where the triptych mural of Jeremy Deller represents the rebellion of man against the manin the burnt city of St Helier on Fire 2017; the rebellion of nature against man in the giant bird of prey that grasps a car like it were a rodent; and the fury of divinity against man in the image where a contemporary Poseidon attacks an ostentatious yacht. Truly, man does not seem to be aware of the current situation. The documentary film made by Khaled Ramadan for the Maldives Pavilion reveals that the population of the archipelago seems to ignore the imminent risk of disappearance they have due to global warming, because these islands are the Iowest in the world regarding sea level,
