#1 CV TOWN . A personal curriculum is like a growing city. Your education defines a block, a new working experience is like another building in the skyline. Every skill you learn is a new ship entering the harbour. Your details are in a specific parking lot. What if you change your phone number? Simple, a new car will get its space.

The plan intends to create an urban settlement in an area of the city of Milan called “Porto di Mare. Its function, in the past, should be that of a commercial harbour, receiving goods coming from the Adriatic sea through the Po river and an intricate system of canals. The area was abandoned and has not been developed since. This plan aims to accomodate 8000 people in a sustainable way of residence. Therefore it is not a monofunctional development but that of a small city which proposes similar characteristics of a historical urban centre. Residential buildings, sport facilities, offices, public buildings and social spaces are organized in different parts of the plan. The main architectural reference is the Detroit Lafayette Park planned by L. Hilberseimer and M. Van der Rohe, with particular attention paid to the relationships between tall and small buildings, between private and public spaces, and with the application of a proportional grid to organize the sectors of the settlement

#2 URBAN SETTLEMENT . Milan The plan intends to create an urban settlement in an area of the city of Milan called “Porto di Mare. Its function, in the past, should be that of a commercial harbor, receiving goods coming from the Adriatic sea through the Po river and an advanced system of canals. The area was abandoned and has not been developed since. Capable of accommodating 8000 people in a sustainable way of residence, the leading architectural reference of this project is the Detroit Lafayette Park, planned by L. Hilberseimer and M. Van der Rohe. Particular attention is paid to the relationships between tall and small buildings, between private and public spaces, with the application of a proportional grid to organize the different sectors of the settlement .

#3 MIXED-USE . Hubei The project is located along a railway, in an ex-industrial area, on a multiple levels site, representing at the same time a threat and a design opportunity. The development facing the main road has a commercial destination and the one facing the mountains residential. The proposed ground floor suits the natural slope with terraces that bear the buildings and house the parking. The overall design wants to express the identity of this area, with shapes and materials referring to the industrial language, in order to create a connection between the contemporary Jinmen and the old one. The concept can be seen as a respectful message addressed to the previous generation of Chinese citizens working here making this city wealthy and prosperous .

The building is part of an urban renewal strategy of an area that contained factories of industrial vehicles in the past. Since one of the “structural problems of the city of Milan is the lack of student housing, the project intends to solve this critical state with the creation of a student building and a swimming centre. The building consists of two independent structures linked through a connective element housing two elevators and the main staircase. The idea is to interrupt the large facade of the building with a vertical element, utilizing the staircase in a compositive way. The building, with a central corridor, contains single rooms on the south side and double rooms or small apartments on the north side. The variety of solutions addresses the various necessities of the new inhabitants: undergraduate students as well as an older demographic pursuing post graduate education in Milan.

#4 STUDENT BUILDING . Milan The building is part of an urban renewal strategy of an area that contained factories of industrial vehicles in the past. Since one of the “structural problems of the city of Milan is the lack of student housing, the project intends to solve this critical state with the creation of a student building and a swimming centre. The building consists of two independent structures linked through a connective element housing two elevators and the main staircase. The internal circulation works with a central corridor, in this way single rooms are located on the south side and double rooms or small apartments on the north side. The variety of solutions addresses the various necessities of the new inhabitants: undergraduate students as well as an older demographic pursuing post graduate education in Milan .

#5 MUSEUM EXTENSION . Helsinki The project is the extension of the “Gosta Serlachius Museum”, housing the artworks of a private collection. The committee was asking the designers to realize a project able to work as a museum and able to create a link between the building itself and the natural surroundings. In this way the design concept is a “gentle” architecture, composed of curved volumes generated from all the influences of the site. The main idea is that of a tree of life made from the different functional requirements of the museum extension. Three functional areas combined as they were roots and branches .

The new extension building has been designed with a system of branches connecting and integrating the sorrounding landscape. The building experience does not end inside but with a serie of vertical and horizontal connections, is possible for the visitor to extend the visiting experience to the whole site. Building acts as a bridge to several lansdcape areas and different locations. Statues and pieces of art can be exhibited also in the landscape area and will create a new path for the visitors. The design aim is to give new strenght also to the existing situation, here the manor plaza acquires a strategic importance as a new vital center of the museum experience.

The apartment is at the top level of the building and the client was asking to re-think its spaces, horizontally and vertically. In particular the requests of the family living here were related to a need of more storage space, a bigger office area and more playlife facilities. The project gives an answer to each point, creating a dress room and other hidden storage spaces, converting the upper floor into a studio, placing a gym in a previously unused space under the roof. 06

#7 LOFT HOUSE . Milan This project represents a typical Milanese intervention where a manufacturing laboratory in an old courtyard has been turned into a residential loft. The double height of the space gives the opportunity to organize the new house on two levels. The first floor is designed as a unique environment, conceived as a sequence of “micro spaces: entrance, living, dining area, kitchen, bathroom. The upper one is composed of a bedroom and a studio, visually connected to the lower one through the use of some transparent glass-floor panels .

A main transversal wall has been partially demolished, in order to create a visual and functional communication between the front and the back part of the loft. Along this wall, hidden from the entrance, the staircase has been located. The second floor, composed of a bedroom and a little studio facing the living area, is supported by a structure of steel beams creating a dynamic contrast with the old ones of the building. This choice tries to underline the history of this old milanese space where the contemporary intervention does not intend to delete the past but establishing a respectful dialogue with it. 05

The renovation of the villa is a schematic design to provide the client enough “information before entering a deeper design phase. The purpose of this intervention is to create a flexible environment where working functions can dialogue with the main residential one. The client, a very busy entrpreneur, asked to design a villa where at the same time he can work and spend some daily hours with his family. The project intends to merge the functions addressing some levels to working activities, others to residential ones, others to both. A great attention is invested in the design of timber separations, able to divide the space but guaranteeing the passage of natural light.

#9 AFTER-SALES OFFICE . Beijing A German top-brand in the automotive industry had to relocate the after-sales team in a different floor of the same building. Their first envision was to give their office not just a better look but also a reflection of the after-sales business. During the schematic-phase there has been a request of the management team to have more spaces for brainstorming activities. The final-proposal has consisted of a partial re-organization of the office layout, achieving a “smarter use of some areas, and a visual decoration in cooperation with the communication-team .

#10 CO-WORKING OFFICE A . Beijing Due to the growing number of small startups in China, the client, a multi-investment company, asked to design an office space in Beijing where people could work individually but in an environment suggesting a strong idea of community. Since the company long-term plan was to open three coworking offices in the first year, this experience has been not only a “pure architectural one but a cooperation with a team of professionals of different fields, in order to ensure a strong connection between the visual identity of the brand and the design itself. Great attention has been paid to the site supervision and the construction methodology .

#11 CO-WORKING OFFICE B . Beijing The main challenge in designing the second office has been to express the same concept in a space radically different from the previous one. Here each L-shaped plan of the building has been organized on two levels, with a balance between open office areas, clusters, and proper rooms. Another primary task when conceiving this space has been the use of flexibility, in order to face two main issues: the different sizes of the companies, the possibility for each company to expand its business and consequently to increase the number of desks in the same space .

#12 HQ OFFICE . Beijing A fast-growing IT-company was requesting an efficient working space addressed to three very specific needs. First of all, a young “population”, considering a median employee age of 25, wishing to work in a pleasant environment, dynamic and encouraging social interactions. Secondly, a management team, willing to stay in a quiet area, with the possibility to lead their departments and work closely. Third, the company-plan of increasing significantly in two years the number of employees, The design solution is a tailor made office where open spaces can be changed according to the furniture, closed rooms are visually connected to the “outdoor” environment, facilities located in a common area .
