Hi there, I am Chloe Matthews and I am excited to say I will be joining you soon at St Edyth’s and starting in the role of Children’s and Families Minister. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all and thought it would be good to introduce myself and tell you a bit about who I am. I am 23 years-old, and grew up in Nailsea, a town not too far from Bristol, with my parents and brother. I grew up going to church as a child, and church was a familiar place for me. I learnt lots about Jesus and when I was nine years old, I wanted to make a personal commitment for myself, and wanted to be baptised by full emersion, which I was after a bit of pestering on my part. During my teens I felt like I learnt more and more of what this commitment means and learning more about God’s love and having a personal relationship with God.
It was during this time as well that I got involved in volunteering at church and became involved with children’s work and leading. After a gap year in Watford working with children at Soul Survivor Watford, I have spent the last four years based in Plymouth at Methodist Central Hall as an intern working with children and young people and studying for a degree in Applied Theology, Children and Schools work. I am excited to work alongside you in developing the children’s work and seeing what God has in store. I am looking forward to joining you at St Edyth’s, (starting officially on Monday 18th November) and becoming a part of the church family here. I am excited to get to know you all, and I am always up for a cup of tea and cake!

Going deeper.... small group or personal study Nehemiah 9
Jot your notes on the sermon:
1. As you read Nehemiah 9, what stands out to you about Ezra’s prayer? 2. What part does confession play in your Christian life? 3. Why do you think they spent so much time confessing and identifying with the sins of their ancestors? 4. Do you have any sense of history regarding the sins and shortcomings of your family? Explain your answer. 5. Thinking of family members who are still alive, do you intercede for them and their relationship with God? Why or why not? 6. Why do you think they had all the religious leaders sign the covenant?
