Hello! I hope you have been enjoying the variations in our wonderful Minnesota weather! I also hope you have had the opportunity to join us for one of our fall Early Childhood Family Education classes. There are many new choices for parent-child classes in the winter/spring catalog and we look forward to you joining us. We offer a variety of classes for children from birth to age five and their parents. All families are welcome to attend. We do not turn any family away for the inability to pay. In addition to our weekly classes and parent workshops, we also have some one-time events coming up soon. Run and Read events will take place Saturdays, Jan. 27, Feb. 24, and March 24 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Colts Academy in St. Joseph. These events are free and open to the public. In addition to fun activities and fun in the gym, every child birth to age five will receive a free book. The early childhood team is excited to share with you that our Early Childhood Education program will be moving its home base from Colts in St. Joseph to the new Quarryview Education Center in Waite Park in June 2018. The early childhood portions of the building were designed to meet the needs of our youngest learners. We hope you will join us for ECFE classes this winter and spring at Colts and watch for new classes next fall at Quarryview. Julie Midas Director of Early Childhood Education

Welcome! This season is the perfect time to discover our Early Childhood Education offerings. It provides all students and parents the opportunity to explore Early Childhood Family Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Screening and St. Cloud Area School District 742 Preschool programing to meet a variety of needs and desires. It’s the ideal way to engage, develop and grow our students — together with our community. Willie Jett Superintendent of St. Cloud Area Public Schools

What is ECFE? Welcome to ECFE Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) believes that parents are the child’s first and most important teacher. We provide quality learning opportunities and resources for parents and their children from birth to kindergarten entry. Parents and children attend ECFE class together. If ECFE is new to you, we invite you to arrange a visit/tour of our Early Childhood Center. A typical ECFE class includes: GROWING TOGETHER: For You and Your Child Play with your child as he or she explores and learns in a play environment. Grow together through art, music, story books and other age-appropriate toys and activities. GROWING INDEPENDENTLY: For Your Child During their play and snack time, the early childhood educator will guide children as they interact with others and as they continue to develop positive attitudes about themselves. GROWING CONFIDENTLY: For You Join other parents, in an informal setting, for discussion led by a licensed parent educator. Parents have the opportunity to share ideas and feel encouraged with the support of others. FEES Fees for ECFE classes are based on income. No family will be excluded because of inability to pay.

Our Mission Our Mission is to create a safe and caring climate and culture in which we prepare, engage, educate, empower and inspire all learners in partnership with their surrounding community to be successful in today’s and tomorrow’s society.

“A secure, flexible and trusting relationship with at least one caring adult is the single most important predictor of a child’s academic and social competence.” ~ dr. terri rose

ECFE Class Registration One of the primary goals in ECFE is to build relationships, particularly one-on-one parent and child. In order for this to happen, and out of respect for ALL families, please make other arrangements for infant siblings over 4 months of age in classes. We know this may be difficult, therefore we offer several classes for multiple children. Thank you for your understanding.

To Register for ECFE Classes, Use the Form Below • Use the fee scale to determine the cost for classes. No one will be turned away because of inability to pay. • You may be asked to verify income. Full payment for the class must accompany registration. • Please check class locations carefully. • Second child from the same family in any class is 50% off.

Parent Information

“I have learned to trust my child (to eat, to try something new, to interact with others) with less intervention and more support.” Do We Have Everyone?

Please be sure your baby, toddler or preschooler is registered on the ISD 742 family information list. Accurate and up-to-date family information enables us to provide you with current information regarding educational services offered by our district: • Early Childhood Screening • Preschool Classes • Kindergarten Enrollment • Early Intervention Services • Parent-Child Programs YOU CAN HELP! If you have moved to or within St. Cloud Area School District 742, changed your phone number or had a new baby, please update your family information. TO REQUEST A FAMILY INFORMATION FORM: call: 320-253-5828 online: www.isd742.org/earlychildhood

Your time and support is greatly appreciated! State funding for Early Childhood Programs depends on an accurate count of the young children in our community.

Early Childhood Screening Minnesota law requires that all children must have a health and developmental screening before entering kindergarten in a public school.

Is Your Child On Track?

Help Me Grow helps you know. And helps you to know what to do next. Help Me Grow provides resources for families to look at developmental milestones, to learn if there are concerns and to take the lead in seeking additional support or in referring their child for a comprehensive, confidential screening or evaluation at no cost. If you have concerns about a child’s development and think a child might need extra help to learn, don’t hesitate to refer a child. TO MAKE A REFERRAL call: 320-253-5828 online: www.helpmegrowmn.org

Early Childhood Screening is a free check of how your 3-year-old is growing, developing and learning. The screening includes a developmental assessment, vision and hearing testing, height and weight measurement and an immunization and health history review. The purpose of this FREE screening is to identify children who may need additional time and experiences to be ready for school. The sooner we get started, the more likely your child will begin school with the necessary skills to succeed. TO SCHEDULE A SCREENING APPOINTMENT: call: 320-253-5828 online: www.isd742.ce.eleyo.com
