15TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Sunday’s Scripture Difficult Decisions Deuteronomy 30:10-14 Psalm 69:14, 17, 30-31, 33-34, 36, 37

Colossians 1:15-20 Luke 10:25-37

Scripture Reflection The most difficult decisions to make are the ones in which we cannot tell right from wrong. We feel drawn by one solution, but we are not sure why. Are our motives pure? Is the reason we find one option attractive a reason that is ignoble? Or are we truly choosing what is good for ourselves, for those we love, and for those we do not know. Sometimes a decision is hard because both options seem bad. We do not want to choose because we will feel sad once we make the choice. But not choosing also brings its frustration and sorrow. When the answer is not clear outside us, we turn inside ourselves. We pray. We ask God for a sign. We look for some clear direction. Sometimes God is silent. Sometimes God speaks. Moses told his people that the task is not as hard as they might think. God’s command is not up in the sky. You do not have to look for someone to go up there and bring it back. God’s command is not across the sea. You do not have to find someone to cross over and get it. No, God’s command is something very near, “already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only to carry it out.” If we live our lives in the spirit of the gospel, we know what the answers to our dilemmas should be. We only have to carry them out.

“Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.” (Psalm 69) Written by Paul Turner. Copyright © 2009, Resource Publications, Inc., 888-273-7782, www.rpinet.com. All rights reserved. Reprinted with permission from Lectionary Bulletin Inserts, Year C: First and Second Readings.

15TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Good News People The GoodNewsPeople program is coming to St. Bruno. The GoodNewsPeople program offers an opportunity to grow in our faith, meet new people and build communities of faith, hope and love in action. It inspires, engages and energizes one to become good news for others. GoodNewsPeople is conducted in small groups and invites us to new ways of understanding our faith, ourselves and the needs of the world around us. Beginning last January, eleven of your fellow St. Bruno parishioners joined in a “pilot test” of the GoodNewsPeople program. They are excited to share this experience with the parish. Here’s what one of them says, “I was blessed with such a gift. I’d be selfish not to share it. You must experience GoodNewsPeople for yourself.” Pray for strength and guidance and plan to visit the GoodNewsPeople information table on the Patio after all Masses on the weekend of July 27th and 28th. For additional information contact Deacon Mike at (562) 947-5637 x117 or deaconmike@stbrunochurch.org; or Toni Clark at (562) 857-4944.

National Needs Combined Collection This Weekend: July 13-14, 2013 We will take up the National Needs Combined Collection next weekend. This collection supports The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) and the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

The Catholic Communication Campaign The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) provides content the way you need it, in podcasts for daily readings, on websites to connect with other faithful, and on social media sites, and always with the New Evangelization in mind. Please be generous in this week’s Collection and support this important work. Remember, half of all proceeds remain in our Archdiocese, so please be generous in this Collection. CCC is how the Good News gets around to you.

In the last five years, over 36% of CCHD’s grants have gone to improving education, supporting economic development, and improving housing in low-income neighborhoods. Help us continue to defend human dignity and take poverty off the map.
