Achieving Excellence By Learning And Doing

16 May 2018

Dear Parents and Caregivers, This year is the thirty-seventh running of the Maribyrnong 150 Charity Run, formerly known as the Bendigo 150. The event is held in conjunction with St Columba’s College and in 2018 St Columba’s will be hosting the event. Traditionally the Bendigo relay covered a distance of 150 kilometres and was run from Bendigo to Melbourne. As the event grew in popularity, safety issues became a concern and it was decided it should become an off road event. Since 2003 the event has been run around the Maribyrnong River Trail between the Maribyrnong Road and Afton Street bridges. The team is divided into ability groups with groups running four kilometre relay legs. The original Bendigo 150 relay covered a distance of 150 kilometres. Since becoming an off road event the team still covers the same distance so we can at least keep part of the original name in the current event’s title. The event is run over a twelve hour period between 4.00am and 4.00pm on a Friday. This year’s event will be held on Friday, 14 September 2018. Training for both the Maribyrnong 150 and the ACC Cross Country (to be held on Wednesday, 12 September) commences on Thursday, 17 May 2018. Training will be from the College every Tuesday and Thursday morning for the remainder of Term Two. During Term Three training will move to Aberfeldie Park, students will be notified in advance prior to this occuring. Students attending need to meet in O’Brien Hall at 6.50am and be stretched and ready to go by 7.00am. These students will be provided with breakfast after training and they can use the changerooms in the O’Brien Centre Gymnasium to get dressed for school. They are not required to train in their College sports uniform but they should wear appropriate running gear. It should also be noted that the weather is starting to get cooler so they may wish to include gloves and a beanie in their running kit. It is also important to note that those students who wish to be considered for the Maribyrnong 150 team must maintain a 75% attendance average and attend the ACC Cross Country Carnival. The coaching staff look forward to another successful winter season. Yours faithfully,

Xavier Cox Cross Country Coordinator
