Exquisite Elegance from the House of Graff Passionate colour and extraordinary craftsmanship create a ravishing vision in a vivid paradise. Graff Diamonds is synonymous with the most fabulous jewels in the world. Graff jewellery is exceptional; the quality, style and workmanship are the best in the world. Laurence Graff OBE, Founder and Chairman of the company, is often described as "The King of Diamonds" and has a passion for diamonds that began from an early age. His inherent feeling for diamonds goes beyond the stones themselves. He says "it has been a lifelong passion - I remember my first diamond and looking inside the stone and being fascinated. This wonder has stayed with me." From the founding of the company in 1960 to the present day, Graff continues to operate as a family business. Mr. Graff ’s son Francois Graff is the company’s Chief Executive Officer, his brother Raymond Graff oversees the jewellery workshop, and nephew Elliott Graff manages the design, merchandising and production of the jewellery. Truly contemporary classics, Graff designs enhance the drama of the stones, allowing their natural radiance to shine through. Inspiration for Graff jewellery is taken from all around the world, from historic European styles and Indian Mughal jewels, African tribal pieces and traditional Asian design, as well as themes from nature. Graff unique jewels are a divine statement of delicacy and boldness, an effortlessly elegant style, graceful combinations of diamond rarity and timeless design.

Viceroy Anguilla is located along 3,200 feet of beachfront and bluff-tops on Meads and Barnes Bays, both prime beaches on the coveted northwest shore of Anguilla. Deep-water, coral shelves reside close offshore and remarkable beaches line the 35 acre resort community. The 35 acre beachfront resort is the only resort on Anguilla situated on two beaches, boasting more than 3,200 feet of frontage on Barnes Bay and Meads Bay, including 1,000 feet of white-sand beach, footpaths and tropical foliage throughout, along with private resort pools. reside | EDITION 11 65

The gracefully landscaped resort is designed to preserve and enhance the beauty of its natural surroundings, with abundant use of indigenous materials and attention to cultural detail. An on-site reverse osmosis plant produces fresh "spring" water for the resort, eliminating the environmental impact of bottled water. Recycled water irrigates the native flora. A self-sustaining oasis, the resort features modern energy generation systems for emergency back-up power.

Owners and guests enjoy full resort privileges, including restaurant access, concierge services, a wealth of recreational amenities, twice daily housekeeping and room service. Every element of the Viceroy experience is wrapped in a visionary blend of sophisticated design and intuitive, personalized service delivered by a team of natural hospitality professionals.

In contrast to the traditional, enclosed Mediterranean-style architecture of Anguilla, architectural firm WATG has created an environment that blends modern glamour with a tropical oasis backdrop, featuring high glass walls flooding with natural light and 200+ pools and water features reflecting the Caribbean sun.

Villas: The resort features freestanding, four- and five-bedroom villas, overlooking the water and ranging in size from 3,820 to 6,185 interior square feet. Each enjoys expansive outdoor living space, from 1,938 to 3,331 square feet, and is equipped with a private infinity pool.

With sophisticated and contemporary interiors by Kelly Wearstler, the imaginative eye behind other Viceroy properties, Viceroy Anguilla showcases a relaxed chic sensibility and a unique sense of place. Organic elements such as driftwood lamps, petrified-wood tables and travertine marble floors add a tasteful contrast to the geometric lines of the architecture and grant the property a distinct singularity among its Caribbean neighbors. 66 reside | EDITION 11

The ultimate in luxury, Viceroy Maldives Viceroy Maldives is located in Shaviyani Atoll, 192 km from the capital island of Malé and the International Airport. On the Maldives‘ uncharted northern edge, the resort is located on the private island of Vagaru, over 17 acres of palm trees and pristine sand encircling a blue lagoon. Access to Vagaru is easily accommodated via seaplane, less than an hour‘s flight from the main island of Malé. A constellation of islands lay in the shimmering waters of the Indian Ocean, where the last true vision of paradise can be found. Less than an hour's flight from Malé, up to The Maldives‘ uncharted northern edge, beckons an island of singular beauty. Over 17 acres of palm-edged, pristine sand stands Viceroy Maldives, where 61 bungalows encircle a lagoon of startling blue. Here, seclusion and rejuvenation are realized within a world of total luxury. A true haven for the discerning adventurer, Viceroy Maldives provides innovative levels of seclusion and luxury set within a spectacular locale. The resort leaves no detail unanswered; with Viceroy's unparalleled service complementing Yabu Pushelberg's perfectly designed elemental interiors and carefully crafted lounge areas. Five dining venues, including the alluring, East African-inspired décor of the central Treehouse restaurant, offer everything from casual beachside cuisine, Pan Asian and European fare to intimate fine dining experience with a wine cellar and a private chef‘s table. The award winning interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg created the interiors of Viceroy Maldives by drawing inspiration from the islands‘ natural beauty and culture, utilizing only the necessary elements in order to avoid competition with the unsurpassed location. Using naturally rustic materials and patterns in a modern way allows the resort to exude sophistication without feeling ostentatious. From the moment guests arrive on property by seaplane and are transported to their bungalows by golf cart, they will feel an ultimate sense of calm. Whether lounging in an oversized daybed overlooking the lagoon, socializing beachside at the resort‘s infinity pool, or relaxing with children in the playful kid‘s zone, Viceroy Maldives exceeds the expectations of even the most discerning guest. 68 reside | EDITION 11

The Maldives resort of Vagaru is not just a haven for relaxation; the island provides a wealth of activities from the expansive watersports center to worldclass diving, snorkeling or deep sea fishing excursions. Guests can enjoy the ocean's wildlife from the resort‘s house reef or on the open sea while young explorers investigate their very own Kids' Zone. The resort‘s 61 bungalows resemble the hull of an inverted Maldivian ―dhoni‖ (a traditional fishing boat); occupy the vast areas on the beach and lagoon. The resort is comprised of 61 Bungalows with 32 over the water and 29 on the beach. Each bungalow is designed with the intent to have maximum privacy, either on the lagoon or on the beach by providing ample distance between each of the bungalows to maintain intimacy and space for the guests. g

Beach Bungalows: Cloistered on the water‘s edge, the Beach Bungalows offer generous living spaces surrounded by a lush screen of greenery. Past the shower and deep soaking tub in the bedroom‘s spacious en-suite bathroom, discover a door that opens out to the bungalow‘s private garden. The intimate garden area holds an outdoor shower and oversized plunge pool on the sundeck, leading directly onto the soft sand of the beach or up to the open spaces of the living area. Deluxe Beach Bungalows: Nestled between lush gardens and the soft sand of the island‘s edge lay the Deluxe Beach Bungalows, with private plunge pools and incredible views beyond the windows of the soaring interiors. Each of our Deluxe Beach Bungalow have floor to ceiling windows, soaring ceilings that rise above the master bedroom, spacious living room and en-suite bathroom with its own outdoor shower nestled in a private garden. The bungalow has a second floor loft, where the daybed provides additional space for lounging or just soaking in the panoramic views. Adjoining to the master bedroom is a second bedroom with two twin beds and an attached bathroom, ideal for families and couples alike. Water Bungalows: Live suspended over the lagoon in a spacious Water Bungalow, each positioned a considerable distance from neighbors. Overlooking the soothing lagoon views, the bungalows are expansive and full of light while retaining an intimate feel. and amenities. The generous living room overlooks the lagoon through floor-toceiling windows, and the split-level deck holds a 60 square meter plunge pool just steps from the water. The Villa‘s living area is designed for entertaining, with the dining room and fully stocked bar connecting the media lounge and a game room with a champion-sized pool table. Guests in the lower level‘s two bedrooms can easily dip in the lagoon or the private plunge Jacuzzi off their individual decks, each furnished with sun loungers and an outdoor shower. Designed for unparalleled seclusion and luxury, the master suite is designed for privacy and savoring the singular views of sunrise and sunset over the lagoon and the Indian Ocean. Treehouse: Treehouse is inspired by the islands of Zanzibar, where African fisherman living in villages scattered through the fifty or so islands survived on a diet of fresh seafood gleaned from the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. With the arrival or Persian and Arab traders in the 9th century came coconut palms, mango trees, citrus fruits, rice and all of the spices from their travels down the spice routes of Asia and Africa. The traders left behind a wonderful legacy, influencing the food that is now so well known in Zanzibar. The Treehouse lures guests with its exotic flavors of East Africa and touches of the Middle East. The Treehouse features a selection of hot or cold mezzes from these regions. The Treehouse has an ideal location at the island‘s southernmost tip; generous cushions and loungers are artfully placed to allow guests to choose an intimate or livelier setting. While some will sip drinks before dinner during the drama of a Maldives sunset, others may choose to climb up for a more scenic seating overlooking the lagoon for an unparalleled view of the starry sky. The Treehouse is the perfect spot for pre and post dinner drinks, smoking a shisha, and savoring some sweet delights. In-Bungalow Dining: Once established in the comforts of their bungalow, there‘s no need for guests to leave it to enjoy the resort‘s dining choices. Guests will be able to dine in the privacy of their own bungalow, selecting dishes prepared from their favorite outlets. Service through In-Bungalow Dining will be perceptively precise and maintain flexibility of choice. At any hour of the day or night, a selection of small plates, snacks and entrees can be brought to the

bungalow‘s deck or living area. Special menus can also be planned for intimate dinner served in our celebrated Viceroy style, on the guest‘s deck, on the beach, or on a deserted island in the Indian Ocean. Dive & Watersports: Maldives is known internationally as one of the world‘s best dive destinations. The Resort‘s PADI-licensed Dive Centre is run by a multilingual team of professionals. The full allure of Vagaru exists both under and upon its waters—the sea and air are alive with adventure, and the key to accessing them lies in the expansive Dive and Watersports Center. With a house reef just off the shore plus unchartered dive and snorkeling sites, novice and experienced divers alike can revel in the island‘s underwater treasures with the Center‘s PADI certified training courses. A range of water sports, both motorized and non-motorized sports are available. Guests can arrange fishing trips out in the deep sea, at sunset or out at a deserted island, or embrace the adrenaline rush of windsurfing, waterskiing, kayaking, catamaran sailing, wake boarding and deep sea fishing. The Spa at Viceroy Maldives The Spa at Viceroy Maldives experience is designed to allow each guest to reconnect to their Essential Self – the person they are when they are free of the stresses, imbalances and toxins of daily life. In the Spa, we create a space for stillness, being, wisdom, peace, bliss and embracing of the sacred. The Spa consists of seven private suites built over the ocean. Five of the multipurpose suites are self-contained worlds designed with private changing areas, steam showers, private deck views and two hydraulic treatment tables to accomplish any treatment required by our guests. Embracing the power and presence of water, one of the multi-purpose suites features a beautiful soaking tub between the two hydraulic treatment tables which is perfect way for a couple to begin or end their spa journey together. The G - force is getting stronger! In 2011, after ten years in business and an excellent reputation already established in Surrey, Grosvenor Billinghurst independent estate agency decided the time was right to rebrand their business, strengthening and developing their identity and distinguishing them from their competitors, so Gascoigne Billinghurst became Grosvenor Billinghurst

o two years on, how has this affected the business? Ian Davies, Managing Director says, “It couldn’t have been more positive, changing our brand gave us a real boost, not only in terms of visibility and image, but it signified a new era for us as we entered our second decade. The business has gone from strength to strength.” Our very own Team GB The Grosvenor Billinghurst team is headed up by Managing Director, Ian Davies, who has over 40 years experience in estate agency. Nine years ago, his son Gareth joined the business and now runs the sales team at the Cobham branch. Ian places great importance on the people who work in the business, “I’ve always recognised that the key to our success is the people who work here. At Grosvenor Billinghurst we have a vast amount of experience with a team of just under 30 people, working across sales, lettings, land and new homes, in our five branches across Surrey. Every one of them has a passion to make a real difference to our clients and brings something unique to the mix.” Success in Surrey Grosvenor Billinghurst has enjoyed great success and prominence in Surrey, since its conception in 2002, so what is it about this agency that sets it apart from its competitors? “It sounds simple but it’s about putting the client first, listening to their needs and matching them to their perfect property. As specialists in residential sales and lettings, we have built excellent relationships with the local community and formed close associations with professionals including, landlords, developers and search agents, this enables us to offer the best possible properties and service to our clients,” says Ian Davies.

Abigail Palmer – Residential Lettings

Five branches in prominent locations With five well placed branches in Surrey, extensive knowledge of the market and a range of properties and buyers on their database, as well as good contacts with search agents, acting for both UK and international buyers, Grosvenor Billinghurst is achieving excellent results. In prominent locations in Cobham, Esher, Claygate, Hinchley Wood and Woking, Grosvenor Billinghurst is highly visible to buyers and sellers. Their offices work together, passing up to date buyer information between each other and promoting properties in the most effective manner. Personal Service Gareth Davies, Sales Manager at the Cobham office explains, “It’s important for us to assess every property and treat every client on an individual basis, as no two homes or sales are ever the same. We listen to our clients and establish their needs and wishes, at the registration stage, allowing us to be more effective at identifying their requirements and bringing the right people out to view our new instructions. Spending time getting to know those who are seriously looking for property and are in a position to buy, understanding their requirements and qualifying Ian Davies – Managing Director

88 reside | EDITION 11

their ability to perform is key to success. By building an accurate and up to date database of clients, we can immediately contact people who may be interested in a particular home.” Discretion is also important, “At Grosvenor Billinghurst we regularly deal with many clients who are in the public eye, clients who are overseas and people from finance and industry that prefer anonymity. This means no for sale board, no advertising in the press, no window display in the office and no web based marketing. Instead, we approach serious buyers who have registered with us as being in the market for that particular type of property,” continues Gareth. Over 70% of Surrey is protected greenbelt and there are more publically accessible green spaces than virtually any other place in the country, so land for development is at a premium and there is a strong demand for new luxury homes. “With our branches covering the most desirable areas in Surrey, we are often asked by clients to source a plot of land, or introduce them to respected developers, “explains Ian Davies. “Having lived and worked in Surrey most of my life and raised my family here, I can understand why so many people want to live in the area, keeping property prices at a premium. Not only is it a great place to live, work and socialise, but is it renowned for having some of the prettiest, and most photographed, villages in England. International Connections But it doesn’t just stop at Surrey, “We have a network of international connections and I have personally been out to visit clients face to face in Moscow, Kiev (Ukraine) and Cyprus,” says Davies. “Russian buyers have been a growing phenomenon of the last decade too, so much so that we have added a Russian section to our website and are happy to employ interpreters when required.” A step ahead This boutique estate agency certainly seems to have found their niche in Surrey. With an excellent reputation and extensive market knowledge, both here and abroad, the Grosvenor Billinghurst team offers a personal and professional service that focuses on the clients’ needs. So if you’re on the move be sure to look out for the ‘wonky G’ as it seems they might just be a step ahead of the rest.

A touch of the noir Rolls-Royce Motor Cars proudly presents the world debut of Wraith, the most powerful and dynamic Rolls-Royce in history. At its heart lie hallmark Rolls-Royce attributes of luxury, refinement and hand-craftsmanship, but the new model from the world’s pinnacle super-luxury marque also presents a unique character defined by power, style and drama. With just a hint of the noir.

“Today we launch the ultimate gentlemen’s gran turismo, a car that embodies the spirit of Charles Stewart Rolls,” commented Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “The most powerful Rolls-Royce in history, Wraith promises the sense of adventure and speed that drove our founding forefather. But of course, Wraith’s starting point is luxury, refinement and quality, traits that remain as important to Rolls-Royce customers today as they were more than a century ago.” Rolls-Royce Chairman and BMW Group board member Harald Krüger added the following: “The BMW Group today reconfirms its full commitment to the future of Rolls-Royce. Growth and a prosperous future lie ahead thanks to continued investment, careful brand stewardship and the launch of groundbreaking new models like Rolls-Royce Wraith, a magnificent addition to the product range.” In profile, Wraith’s sweeping fastback design gives the car its unique character. Bold lines, tension in the panels and a raked rear screen evoke the image of a world class athlete poised in the starting blocks. Further expression of dynamic intent can be seen in Wraith’s deeply recessed grille, wide rear track and dramatic two-tone presentation. Coach doors open to reveal a sumptuous interior complete with softest Phantom-grade leathers and expanses of wood called Canadel Panelling. Named after the famous cove in the South of France where Sir Henry Royce and his design and engineering teams spent their reside | EDITION 11 107

winters, this contemporary and tactile finish sweeps through the interior, cosseting four occupants in a space bathed in light and warmth. The interior ambiance is complemented by Starlight Headliner, a Bespoke feature available beyond Phantom family cars for the first time. 1,340 fibre optic lamps are hand-woven into the roof lining to give the impression of a glittering, starry night sky. Performance delivers on the promise of Wraith’s styling. Power delivery is effortless, but dramatic, thanks to a V12 engine married to 8-speed automatic ZF transmission. 624 bhp / 465kW is available to the driver while the 0-60 mph sprint is achieved in 4.4 seconds, compared with 563 bhp / 420kW and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds for Ghost. From 1,500 rpm 800 Nm of torque is available (780 Nm for Ghost), while a wide rear track, shorter wheelbase and lower roof height further contribute to the most powerful, involving driving experience of any Rolls-Royce in history. The car’s suspension has also been tuned to minimise body roll and discreetly amplify feedback when cornering; while steering weight is heavier at high speeds and lighter at low speeds adding to the spirited drive. However, Wraith is no GT bruiser. Agility improvements have been achieved with absolutely no compromise to the sensation of riding on a bed of air. Furthermore, the debut of Satellite Aided Transmission (SAT) technology takes the powertrain to a new level of effortless delivery, one that perfectly suits the Rolls-Royce brand. 108 reside | EDITION 11

Satellite Aided Transmission uses GPS data to see beyond what the driver sees; it anticipates his next move based on location and current driving style, then selects the most appropriate gear for the terrain ahead. Corners, motorway junctions and roundabouts are all anticipated in advance meaning Wraith is constantly poised to deliver on its promise of performance. A more polished, effortless driving experience and even better response brings a new, more dynamic dimension to the famous Rolls-Royce trait, waftability. For over a century a Rolls-Royce motor car has featured technologies designed to support occupants discreetly, delivering a peerless driving experience epitomised by the term ‘effortlessness’. In every Rolls-Royce these assist the driver when called upon, but are prepared to return without fuss to the background when no longer required. Advances in mechanical and electrical technology deliver systems like head-up display, adaptive headlights and Wraith’s keyless opening boot. But improvements in connectivity have taken the human-machine interface to a new level of sophistication, a suite of aids that could be likened to a contemporary on-board valet Voice activation commands, for example, come with a one-touch call button located on the steering wheel. A destination no longer requires manual input from a navigation menu and route assistance begins immediately, on-screen and via audio guidance following a voice command such as “navigate to Piccadilly in London.” g

Additional improvements in communications come in the design and functionality of the elegant Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller. This allows navigation through on-screen functions using a touch pad that features pinch and pull functionality to echo smart phone usage. Letters can also be ‘drawn’ onto the pad by hand rather than by scrolling through a series of available characters on-screen. In Europe, Wraith will be priced at c. €245k. Confirmation and further pricing details in all markets will be revealed later in the year. First deliveries of Wraith will be made to customers in the final quarter of 2013. Rolls Royce at Harrods, Knightsbridge In April the Wraith was showcased in Harrods, London’s most prestigious department store. Rolls-Royce Motors Cars occupied two windows on the exclusive Brompton Road, Knightsbridge. To mark the UK debut of the Wraith Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Sunningdale held an Exclusive Invitation Only Evening on Tuesday 30th April for a select number of VIP Guests. Guests were invited to attend Harrods after closing hours to preview the Wraith whilst enjoying champagne and canapés in a completely unique venue. Guest speakers from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Goodwood welcomed guests and explained the design, power and detail behind the new addition to the Rolls-Royce family before guests were invited to enjoy a closer look at the Wraith Rob Lowe, General Sales Manager at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Sunningdale commented “The Wraith is truly a new generation for Rolls-Royce. The Wraith showcases power, style and drama with all the trademark Rolls-Royce characteristics – luxury, opulence, excellence in engineering and handcraftmanship. The most powerful and dynamic Rolls-Royce ever built but yet still embracing the finest things in life, the most beautiful materials, absolute exclusivity and perfection in its finely detailed interior. PRIME CENTRAL LONDON: Market Update buying prime London property. We have observed that French and Italian buyers have been the key overseas buyers driving sales in Chelsea, Kensington and Belgravia. Taxation and financial concerns within the Euro Zone are driving these continental buyers to invest their money in London residential property.

Gary Hersham, Partner & Managing Director

n the first eight months of 2013 residential values in prime central London have risen by 5% overall, and by up to 7% at the top (£20 million plus) end of the market. The market has exceeded expectations, and the growth is stronger than the calculations provided by property experts at the end of 2013: for example, the Beauchamp Estates December 2013 forecast for Prime London was for a 1% rise in values over this year. There are a variety of reasons for this continued buoyancy. Firstly interest rates remain low; bank lending to investors for high quality London homes has continued to improve; the capital’s economy has outperformed the rest of the UK and global investors view London real estate as a “safe haven” and tax efficient location for their wealth.

Of the central London districts, Knightsbridge, Belgravia and Mayfair have been the strongest performers, with significant and sustained demand for large houses by affluent end user buyers and new build units by overseas and UK investors. Beauchamp Estates sales values for two bedroom apartments in Knightsbridge and Belgravia are averaging £7-£8 million, with the corresponding value for London townhouses averaging £20 million. In the necklace of village style districts surrounding central London such as Putney, Wimbledon, Roehampton and Islington there has been substantial price growth of up to 10% over 2013 to date. In these districts off plan buying in new developments is popular because investors can see prices rising and therefore have the confidence that they can buy off plan 18month to two years before a new development is build complete and then benefit from capital value growth as the scheme moves towards completion. Currently 12% of all deals that we undertake are for off plan sales, this is up from around 6% five years ago. Currently in London off plan buyers are spending anything from £300,000 up to £1.3 million on acquiring a one or two bedroom apartment. There has been a significant rise in European families, in particular from France and Italy, 120 reside | EDITION 11

We have observed that the French buyers are purchasing London homes for end use, whilst the Italian buyers are acquiring the properties as rental investments or as London homes for their children, who work in finance or law in the City of London. We report that French buyers are either spending up to £10.5 million on spacious apartments overlooking garden squares in Kensington or Belgravia, or are spending up to £25 million on smart freehold houses in Chelsea. Italian buyers are spending up to £5 million on apartments Chelsea and Kensington. The new French Finance Act, which came into force on 30 December 2012, now means that personal income tax has increased from 41% to 45% on households earning more than £128,550, with a new 75% tax rate on individuals with incomes exceeding £857,000. French capital gains tax has increased from 24% to up to 45% and additional social taxes are payable at a rate of 15.5%. In addition, rules on dividend payments and overseas investments has also been tightened. Corporate taxation and governance laws have also become more stringent. All these changes have resulted in a rise during 2013 of French buyers looking to invest, live and work in central London. We underline that exchange rates mean that since 2008 London residential property prices to Euro buyers have risen by only 8%.

We have observed that another enticement for young French families looking to live and work in London is the fact that the number of French schools (Lycee) in London is also set to rise. Currently there are French Lycee in South Kensington (caters for 3,900 pupils) and Kentish Town (opened in 2011 and caters for 700 pupils). Now a new French Lycee has been announced to open on a site once occupied by Brent Town Hall in Wembley, opening in 2015 and accommodating 1,000 pupils. We highlight that Italians are amongst the best savers in the world. However with the Italian economy contracting, employment shrinking and the Italian government suffering from a debt to GDP ratio of 120%, Italians with the resources to do so have been re-investing their money in London real estate. The Italians are investing in established addresses, Chelsea, Kensington and Notting Hill, buying either as rental investments or homes where their children can either be based whilst they either study or work in London. During the last 10 months, buying activity at the top end (£20 million plus) of the prime central London market has been dominated by purchasers from Russia, the other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS countries), the Middle East and Asia. Looking forward over the final quarter of the year we forecast that the buoyant and sustained sales rates and lettings activity will be maintained and that September and October 2013 will be particularly busy months with new developments launching and instructions being brought to the market.

Historic Hampton Court Hampton Court, Surrey | Guide Price

ÂŁ499,950 Originally built in the early 18th century, the current owner believes the house was constructed for the Head Gardener at Hampton Court Palace in circa 1705. The final word in luxury lifestyle The most luxurious surroundings coupled with unparalleled service and the most amazing destinations in the world - Time spent on-board a luxury yacht is the ultimate experience. Unlike a holiday spent in an exclusive resort, or spending time in a luxury villa, a luxury yacht offers guests the ultimate in flexibility, exclusivity and privacy. Beyond that, they present the opportunity to explore the coastlines of the world in luxury and at one’s own leisure. On-board guests will find a never ending list of activities, equipment and amenities all made available via a professional crew dedicated to providing a personalised service 24 hours a day.

Superyacht company Y.CO on what luxury means in 2013 Luxury. It’s a word we hear everywhere. Google’s wonderful predictive search bar throws up a hilarious collection of “luxury” items when you start typing, from luxury shower curtains to luxury cat food. And, as with so much overly used lexicon, it’s easy to lose track of what it really means. Just how luxurious can a prawn sandwich be? Or that “luxury all inclusive holiday to Tenerife for just £199 per person including flights, hotels and transfers”? There’s no doubt that our perceptions of luxury have changed. Luxuries once beyond the realms of imagination are now a part of everyday life for millions of us. How many monarchs of yore dined on exotic fruits picked only yesterday in lands thousands of miles away? I wonder what Louis XVI would have given for a packet of pre-cut pineapple slices from M&S. The question is, what does luxury mean to us today? Going back to basics, the Oxford Dictionary defines a luxury as “an inessential, reside | EDITION 11 139

desirable item which is expensive or difficult to obtain”. That sounds about right, but at Y.CO, we would go so far as to remove the word ‘expensive’ altogether. Luxury isn’t about cost. For us, life’s true luxuries really are the things that MasterCard can’t buy… That might seem a surprising definition for a yacht company, given that our business is selling, chartering and managing the most expensive yachts in the world. But we know that what makes yachting so magical (whether the yacht is 30-feet or 300-feet) is not the size or the cost, but the incredible experiences it makes possible. We won’t deny that the yachts we work with at Y.CO certainly fall into the 'expensive' bracket. Ranging from 80-feet to over 450-feet in length, all cabins and living spaces are fitted out to the highest quality and the onboard service is 24-hour, totally bespoke. As a basic standard, every yacht has a permanent crew with a professional chef, and often a dive instructor, personal trainer, spa therapist, yogi and even helicopter pilot as well. Almost all feature jet-skis, surfboards and wave runners, many have submarines, kite-surf equipment and sports fishing tenders. Gym, jacuzzi, spa, sauna, snow room, even office – there is no limit to the amenities and activities our fleet can offer. But from our point of view, all of this comes as standard. The true luxury of yachting, the part our clients fall in love with, isn’t the amenities, it’s the experience.g 140 reside | EDITION 11

Transition to the Prep is seamless and as children mature they become increasingly independent learners in preparation for the move to senior school. The results achieved across the ability range are outstanding leading to success at some of the country’s leading schools; Eton, Westminster, Royal Grammar School, Guildford High School, Reed’s, Hampton, Wellington College to name but a few. Alongside the academics sport, music, art and drama play a major part throughout the school and children excel in many areas; end of year productions of Guys and Dolls, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof; sporting excellence achieving national success in netball and hockey, county success in cricket and football; individual musical success in national youth orchestras and choirs and a spectacular annual art exhibition. Scholarships in all these areas are won every year to a variety of schools across the country. Why? Because the most discerning, sophisticated consumers in the world look beyond the cost of a product and instead, focus on the value it brings. With a yacht, the defining factor isn’t the price, rather where the yacht will take them, what they can enjoy on board. An increasing number of yacht owners and charterers are looking to travel to destinations like Borneo, Costa Rica, Myanmar, the Galapagos. To these people, luxury doesn’t mean expensive. Expensive is easy. Any fool can buy expensive. To today’s elite, luxury is rare, intelligent, new, educational. Luxury is going somewhere before the crowds. Luxury is being able to set trends rather than follow them. Luxury is sophisticated. To our clients, yachting is no longer a statement of power and money; it’s a channel through which to experience unforgettable moments with the people who matter most. In countless surveys across all demographics and income levels, we see one recurring desire. Time. In the 21st Century, time has become a luxury – (remember our friends from the OED: a desirable item which is difficult to obtain). We live longer and do everything faster, but still we all crave more time with the people we love, doing the things we enjoy. Most of the charter holidays we arrange at Y.CO are for families looking to spending precious moments together, removed from the frantic pace of the rest of the world, in total privacy and perfect comfort. 142 reside | EDITION 11

For some, the luxury lies in witnessing their children’s faces as they swim with dolphins for the first time, or watch cavorting penguins in Antarctica. For others, the luxury is just about fitting as much as possible into a single holiday, about waking up every morning in a new destination, making the most of their limited leisure time. Relaxing break or action packed vacation? Yoga retreat or sports fishing? Corsica or Sardinia? Why, both, of course. On a yacht, luxury means no compromise. It’s the best of every world. So, is it expensive? With a week on board a behemoth such as Serene costing as much as €3,000,000, it can be. But, with yachts like the beautiful, classic 55-meter schooner Elena starting from just €7,000 per person, the secret no one else is in on is that it might not be quite as expensive as you think… Monaco Email: Tel: +377 93 50 12 12 London Email: Tel: +44 20 7584 1801

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Hometime Aston Martin - £5,800

In 2013, on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the Grand Maison in the Vallée de Joux and the centenary of the famous English car manufacturer, three original timepieces symbolise the ties between these two avant-garde companies of which the history has constantly run along parallel lines, grounded on a constant quest for perfection. This philosophy relentlessly forged day after day has raised the two brands to icon status. In the workshops of Gaydon and the Vallée de Joux, generations of artisans unite their extensive range of skills, meticulously breathing life into exceptional timepieces and automobiles that are eagerly awaited by a dedicated audience of sports lovers, aesthetes and connoisseurs. The partnership signed between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin in 2004, setting an official seal on a longstanding cooperation, was a self-evident development resembling a logical meeting of great minds. While talent itself is uncommon, the association between two icons is as rare as the simultaneous appearance of two stars in the inventive firmament. The ties established between the two brands’ Research and Development department have steadily intensified as their cooperation has given rise to remarkable technical innovations. The latest among these include the transponder composed of a microtransmitter built into a timepiece and controlling the central locking system of the cars; the vertical-trigger chronograph so intuitively user-friendly that it resembles that 150 reside | EDITION 11

instant sense of ease a driver feels when getting behind the wheel of an Aston Martin; the introduction of movements with specific features designed to match sports driving requirements; and the development of materials boasting innovative properties. Loyal to the shared values of performance and innovation, this association has deep historical roots, since the first Aston Martin racing cars were equipped with Jaeger dashboard counters already known for their precision. The characteristic design of the AMVOX models pays tribute to the inventiveness of these talented pioneers by reproducing the 270° sweep of these legendary instruments. For Jaeger-LeCoultre CEO, Jérôme Lambert, the success of this long-term partnership is easily explained: “The tradition of excellence represents the foundations of a dynamic and enduring alliance based on the specific expertise of each company and nourished by horological inventiveness illustrated by the countless patents registered by the Manufacture in the course of its history that already spans 180 years.” As far as Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez is concerned, “The success of this exceptional British brand in this our centenary year comes from a combination of people, heritage and product; above all, it’s about the passion in everything we do. Aston Martin is a world leader in design and luxury – offering the very best of craftsmanship and technology with engineering that embraces excellence and ingenuity in every one of our products.”g

In 2013, the close relations between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin adopt a new appearance with the presentation of the two first models in the Aston Martin collection. This collection offers Fine Watchmaking connoisseurs a range of exceptionally sturdy and reliable timepieces endowed with useful functions and featuring a design subtly evoking the distinctive world of the prestigious British car maker. Finally, a new worldtime chronograph celebrates the first entry into the AMVOX line of a case made from ain innovative high-tech material, reinforced cermet. Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm Aston Martin watch The alarm watches pilots had always dreamt of boasts all the qualities indispensable to those whose passion propels them across continents. Starting with a world time display that enables them to read off at a glance the time in any time zone on the planet. Since long journeys across the world’s various time zones imply facing the dreaded concomitant time differences, the ever useful alarm function not only features exceptional readability, but also a full and powerful sound. There is thus no risk of showing up late for a race, especially since this innovative display combines playfulness with absolute clarity – since it is composed of two juxtaposed discs appearing through a large window at 9 o’clock: the first is devoted to hours running from 1 to 12, and the second to quarter-hours. The Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm Aston Martin watch is powered by the automatic Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 912 featuring a blend of reliability and a sporting nature stemming from its ability to face up to the most extreme conditions. Witness the compression key that further enhances the crown’s resistance to water and dust by overcompressing one of the four water-resistance gaskets; along with a sophisticated shock-absorbing case guaranteeing absolute precision in all circumstances. The splendid black dial bearing alternating red and white indications is adorned with a surface treatment evoking the grill on Aston Martin cars. The logo created by the British manufacturer to celebrate its centenary is engraved on the case-back. It also adorns the special presentation box equipped with a dedicated compartment to house a second strap supplied with the watch. Wearers can thus switch from alligator leather to rubber in one smooth move and thus secure firmly to their wrist this generous 46.3 mm-diameter titanium and stainless steel watch designed for experienced drivers. Master Hometime Aston Martin watch The new Aston Martin collection welcomes a model embodying Jaeger-LeCoultre’s spirit of innovation: the Master Hometime watch. Like the aerodynamic lines and innovative technical solutions of Aston Martin cars that have been making their mark on the history of motor sports for a century, the Hometime concept developed by

Jaeger-LeCoultre is a milestone opening up whole new vistas for the watchmaking art in this early 21st century. The secret of its success lies in its simple operation combined with extreme beauty. The Master Hometime Aston Martin immediately stands out for its structured black dial that has become the symbol of a partnership embodied by exceptional horological accomplishments. The sporting nature of the timepiece is accentuated by the brushed, streamlined lugs smoothly extending from the 40 mm-diameter steel case. The indications also feature the collection’s characteristic colours: black, white and a hint of red designed to instantly draw the gaze towards the sought-after information – whether the reference time that is easier to read because of the crimson-tipped openworked hand dedicated to displaying the time zone of the place of residence. To avoid any errors of interpretation on the other side of the world, it is combined with a 24-hour counter occupying the upper part of the dial, while the lower part is devoted to the running seconds. The time indications are adjusted in one-hour increments, either forwards or backwards, in order to display local time immediately upon reaching a given destination. When the traveller returns, performing the reverse adjustment as soon as the plane hits the tarmac brings the two hours hands back to their superimposed position. The eye thus perceives only one and the timepiece is once again a timepiece showing a single time zone until the next long-distance trip. Clothed in its remarkable understated livery, the elegant Master Hometime Aston Martin, powered by automatic Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 975H, perfectly illustrates the virtues shared by the two brands: innovation, reliability and performance – as testified by their signatures appearing side by side at 3 o’clock. AMVOX5 World Chronograph Cermet watch Through the conception of its mechanism and the arrangement of the dial indications, the AMVOX5 World Chronograph Cermet guarantees absolute readability and enables at-a-glance reading of the entire range of information. The central chronograph hand is associated with two counters on either side of the vertical axis in order to count off the minutes and hours elapsed since the start of the measurement. The lower part of the dial is devoted to the operating indicator that testifies to the smooth running of the watch and comprises the date aperture appearing at its base. The inner bezel ring bears the city disc for the world time display enabling instant readings for each time zone. The dial centre is occupied by the hours and minutes hands along with the above-mentioned chronograph seconds hand. This wealth of information is perfectly legible thanks to the clear hierarchical arrangement of the classic Aston Martin colours: black, anthracite, white and red. This is a professional instrument designed to achieve high performance, as too is the automatic Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 752. Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement is housed within a 44 mm-diameter case that is waterresistant to 5 bar and made from a revolutionary material, reinforced cermet. g

Reinforced cermet Recently developed by research labs for high-powered race-car engines, reinforced cermet boasts a number of decisive advantages by combining performance and shock resistance with extraordinary lightness. As ever in the vanguard of innovation, Jaeger-LeCoultre has secured exclusive use of this high-tech avant-garde material in the watchmaking field. Nonetheless, this lofty ambition called for a complete rethink of case design as well as production processes. No effort is spared when it comes to making a watch to meet the level of demands never before imposed on a timepiece. This revolutionary high-tech material is composed of an aluminium core and ceramic particles, covered with a 40 micron-thick protective ceramic coating. The ceramic microspheres are made from a crystalline powder mixed with fuel composed of gas and oxygen-enriched air. The mixture is then ignited and, as the heat given off by this combustion reaches a temperature of 2500°C, meaning above the melting point of alumina, the alumina crystals take on the shape of spherical drops. The latter are rapidly cooled down to room temperature in order to form solid particles. In a second phase, the ceramic microspheres are mixed with aluminium powder and the product thus obtained is heated in a vacuum to 600°C to avoid any oxidation. Once this operation is complete, the aluminium is agglomerated with the ceramic microspheres and the base material is thus ready to be blanked and machined to form the case – which is then covered with a protective ceramic layer. The latter operation is performed by an electrochemical process that provokes the formation of ceramics towards the outside of the case – thus ensuring extreme homogeneity between the base material and the protective coating. The long-term partnership agreement between two brands devoted to excellence and the avant-garde takes on new intensity in this anniversary year with the presentation of these three creations resolutely on the cutting edge of technology and horological innovation.
