START THE ADVENTURE

www.statravel.com

welcome to sta travel We’ve been sending people off on epic adventures for more than 30 years and, even after all this time, we’re still convinced that experiencing the wonders of our planet will open your mind and stretch your horizons. What better way to see the world than from ground level, from the comfortable surroundings of a fast, convenient and environmentally-friendly train? We’ve got some great deals on rail passes worldwide, many of which simply aren’t available once you arrive in your chosen country, and we’re pretty good at finding you exclusive airfares to go with them, not to mention accommodation, tours and all the other travel essentials you need when you get there.

TOP 10 REASONS TO RIDE THE RAILS… 1

SAVE $$$! More often than not, trains are cheaper than driving or flying, particularly if you want to check out several countries on one trip or cover some serious distance.

2

GO WITH THE FLOW Missed the 3pm train? Catch the 3.30pm! Plans always change and rail passes give you the freedom to travel when and where you like.

3

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Unlike airports, most train stations are in the heart of cities, so you can spend your time and money exploring, not on cab fares and bus rides.

4

SUPERSIZE YOUR LUGGAGE Forget about wearing three coats and five pairs of socks as you check-in your carry-on bag at the airport; you can take what you like on the train.

5 2

FERRY GODMOTHER Many rail companies have discount agreements with local ferry and bus services, so you can use your pass on the water and road as well as the tracks.

6

GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK Unless you’re exploring the world by foot or bike, trains are one of the most eco-friendly transport options around.

7

TRAVEL IN STYLE Stretch your legs, move around and leave your electronic devices on the whole time, not just when the seatbelt sign turns off.

8

IS IT A BIRD? IS IT A TRAIN? Many of Europe’s trains are marvels of futuristic engineering with high-speed routes slashing journey times. And don’t even get us started on Japan’s awesome ‘bullet’ trains!

9

ROCK UP AND HOP ON Show up 30 minutes ahead of time and get straight on the train. No more early checkins, long waits in security and throwing out all liquids over 100mls.

10

MEET THE LOCALS Chat with the locals and meet travellers from around the world who, like you, want to get the true feeling for a country.

why choose sta travel TRAVEL INSURANCE Visa OK, travel insurance ain’t the most exciting thing in the Your trip of a lifetime will quickly grind to a screeching world, but it could be the most important purchase you make before you take off on your travels. You must take travel insurance before you leave, you won’t be able to get travel insurance once you have left the US. The chances are that you’ll have the time of your life and you’ll return home with a big smile on your sun-bronzed face – but just in case things don’t quite go according to plan it’s very wise to have a safety net in place for that extra peace of mind. So if you plan to cycle around colorful city streets, cross a few roads, eat weird and wonderful food, cart your expensive camera or iPod from hostel to hotel or go snorkeling in fish infested phosphorescent waters – then make sure you ask us to organize the right cover for you.

HEALTH It’s your responsibility to obtain proper and detailed

medical advice in good time before departure. We suggest that you check out the excellent Centers for Disease Control website at www.cdc.gov for up-to-date information. Your local doctor can also give advice on which vaccinations you’ll need for particular countries.

tefl Make the best use of your time away, immerse

yourself in a new culture, add to your resume and gain a skill for life. Millions of people are learning English worldwide in the most far flung of places. Why don’t you teach English abroad? Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) is a recognized qualification. Anyone can do it and there is no need for prior teaching experience - just enthusiasm. Learn to teach English as a foreign language either online or as part of a weekend course with our Premier TEFL course. Once certified you can then take advantage of one of the many paid teaching opportunities available around the world. Fund your travels and never run out of cash. Visit www.statravel.i-to-i.com/tefl for course options and pricing

EURAIL Eurail is a co-operation between 26 European railway companies to hook non-European residents up with discounted rail travel in Europe. Over the years, 14 million travellers have used Eurail to set off on their big adventure around Europe. Trains in Europe are reliable, fast and comfortable, and whizz you across borders with the minimum of fuss. It can, however, get pretty pricey booking lots of individual train journeys, so it’s much better value to get yourself one of the passes shown over the next four pages. You can’t buy Eurail passes once you’re in Europe, so work out where you want to go, what you want to see and how long you’ve got, and then don’t forget to buy the pass that’s right for you before you leave home!

EURAI L GLOBAL PASS Considered the ‘golden ticket’ of European rail travel, and giving flexibility to travel pretty much anywhere in 24 countries, it’s no surprise to see that the Eurail pass is still going strong!

If you prefer to spend a few days exploring Europe’s amazing cities in depth rather than being constantly on the move, opt for a ‘flexi’ pass. This gives you either 10 or 15 travel days which you can use whenever you choose within a two-month period. You can ride as many trains as you like on any given day, enjoy free or discounted ferry travel to get you across the bits where the train doesn’t go and change your plans as the mood takes you. If you’d rather throw the rulebook out of the window and see Europe as spontaneously as possible, opt for a ‘continuous’ pass which allows you to travel wherever and whenever you like within your chosen pass duration. • Unlimited rail travel in 24 European countries • Saver prices available when 2-5 people travel together on the same pass • Youth prices apply if under 26 years old • When travelling on selected trains (e.g. high-speed, overnight or peak-time services), advance bookings and/or compulsory seat reservations are necessary and do sometimes attract a nominal charge
