• There are no birth records for William Shakespeare; however, there are baptismal records from the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon for a baptism on April 26, 1564, which traditionally would have been when a child was three days old. This has led scholars to declare April 23 as Shakespeare’s birthday. • Born in Stratford, 91 miles (146 km) northwest of London, Shakespeare was the son of a glovemaking father and a mother who belonged to a wealthy farming family. • At the age of 18, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, age 26. Six months later, their first child, Susannah, was born. A set of twins, a boy and a girl, followed two years later. The boy died at age 11. If anyone comes forward claiming to be a descendant of William Shakespeare, it’s false! The twin girl had no children, and Susannah’s only child, a daughter, died childless, leaving no family line. (CONTINUED ON PAGE 2)

OVER THE AGE LIMIT GERMANY - Social workers called out by a worried mother to speak to her daughter about her loose morals were shocked to find out their ages. They had to tell the 92-year-old German mother that her 68-year-old daughter’s love life was none of their business. Adelheid Schmidt called the youth department of social services in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony, to complain about her daughter Tina’s “uncontrollable, immoral and loose behavior with men”. Mrs. Schmidt made the call after she found out that Tina had a boyfriend. But the social workers told her they could not help her, as her “child” was 50 years past the age limit where social services can get involved.

CHEDDAR CHEESE BISCUITS FOR ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Connecting Businesses With Customers In More Ways Than Ever! CELEBRATING 16 YEARS!

Whenever I run into my Irish-American friend Margaret Wachholz, I feel like I’ve just won a ticket to the Emerald Isle. It’s not just her catchy sayings and accent that inspire me; she simply exudes joy whenever I tell her about my attempts to be just a wee bit Irish, especially around St. Patrick’s Day. When I recently shared a favorite biscuit recipe made with cheddar cheese and scallions, which I thought might be ideal for a St. Patrick’s Day dinner, she exclaimed, “’Tis, indeed, but be sure to add lashings of butter! Irish butter.” Good thing, because this recipe calls for butter in the batter and for brushing on top of the warm biscuits -- perfectly suited to accompany an Irish-themed meal on March 17, This easy recipe skips mixers, kneading and biscuit cutters in the prep. Just set out a big bowl, grab a wooden spoon and call in the kids. They can measure and stir before you pop the doughy mounds in the oven. When baked, they can brush the lightly browned tops with “lashings” of butter and top with a shamrock-shaped flat parsley leaf as a nod to the “green.”

BLUFFING THE BAD GUYS TENNESSEE - Tim Davis was behind the counter at his Salt and Pepper Christian Store in Murfreesboro, Tenn., when a man came in and said, “Give me all the money. I have a gun and I will use it quickly.” Davis doubted the man had a gun, so he replied, “I don’t think so” and grabbed a pair of scissors. “I’m showing him my weapon,” Davis said, knowing he was one-upping the robber with his scissors. The robber ran, with Davis in hot pursuit. Davis cornered the robber, and police arrived and arrested the unnamed man. “I did take a calculated risk,” Davis admitted afterward. “The only thing I did wrong was run with a pair of scissors.” As of May 2015, 2.3 Million Americans still subscribed to AOL Dial Up Internet.

RUSSIA - A Russian cosmonaut is aiming to drive a golf ball two billion miles in space. Mikhail Tyurin will launch his ball using a gold-plated six iron from a special tee attached to a platform on the International Space Station. Scientists say the ball will circle the Earth for up to four years at a speed of five miles a second before falling from orbit and burning up in the atmosphere. American space scientists were said to be worried that the ball would be bouncing off satellites as it rocketed into golfing history. But Nataliya Hearn, chief executive officer of Element 21, the Toronto-based golf equipment manufacturer sponsoring the shot, insisted there was no opposition from NASA. “All the guys that work there play golf, so this is something that appeals to their western sensibility,” she said. Element 21 manufactures golf clubs made from scandium, a rare alloy used in the Russian-built part of the space station. It has paid an undisclosed sum to the Russian space agency for the rights to the long-distance publicity stunt.

SHAKESPEARE (CONTINUED FROM FRONT PAGE)

The Globe Theatre was a theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare. It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare’s playing company.

• When Shakespeare was 33, he had already written 15 of his 37 plays. He purchased Stratford’s second-largest house and was doing quite well for himself. He was not only writing plays, he was acting in his own plays as well as in others’ productions, and was co-owner of a drama company. At age 35, he and his business partners built their own London theater, the Globe, a three-storied theater with a seating capacity of 3,000. In addition to his 12.5% share of the Globe, Shakespeare purchased real estate leases near his Stratford home, which quickly doubled in value, providing him an income of 60 pounds a year (about $17,500 in today’s dollars), income that enabled him to write his plays uninterrupted. He became quite wealthy as his real estate portfolio increased.

• Shakespeare’s plays are generally separated into three main categories – comedies, histories, and tragedies. You might be familiar with the comedies “All’s Well that Ends Well,” “Much Ado about Nothing,” and “As You Like it.” “Henry IV,” “Henry V,” and “Julius Caesar” are considered historical. Nearly everyone is familiar with Shakespeare’s great tragedy “Romeo and Juliet,” and “Hamlet” and “Othello” are tragedies as well. The Globe Theater advertised what type of play was being performed by hanging colored flags outside. A red flag signified a historical play, while white was for comedy, and black for a tragedy.

FRIDAY

PENNSYLVANIA - Police in Lower Southampton stopped 24-year-old William Bethel Jr. He was driving a mortuary body delivery service van, yet when they pulled him over he was in the middle of several deliveries for Domino’s Pizza. Bethel admitted he was using the same vehicle for pizza and bodies since he was able to get an extra shift doing pizza delivery, and his car was in the shop. But, he said, he wasn’t transporting dead bodies and pizza at the same time. When the mortuary service heard of the transgression, Bethel was fired. Bethel, who admitted he shouldn’t have been driving at all since his license was suspended, was cited for driving a commercial vehicle without a current inspection certificate, and driving with a suspended license. He said he hopes to be a mortician some day. (Bucks County Courier Times)

MALL MARVELS An Amish woman and her son are walking through a mall for the first time, totally stunned by everything they see. They are especially fascinated by two silver walls, which slide together and then apart. They both walk up closer to the sliding silver walls. They see a fat, little old man waddle inside and watch as the doors close behind him. The mother and son can’t believe their eyes when minutes later, the silver doors open and a tall, well-built stud strides out. The mother then turns to the son and says, “Son, go and get your father.”

MONEY FOR NOTHING Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler was once asked about the origin of the line “Get your money for nothing and your chicks for free” from the band’s classic song “Money for Nothing.” “That came from a big meathead working in an electrical appliance store in New York,” Knopfler recalled. “He was watching MTV while moving boxes. I spied on him through a little gap in the microwave section, and the lines he was coming out with were so classic that I had to write them down as fast as possible! MDHearingAid® uses the same kind of Advanced Hearing Aid Technology incorporated into hearing aids that cost thousands more at a small fraction of the price. Over 300,000 satisfied MDHearingAid customers agree: High-quality, FDA-registered hearing aids don’t have to cost a fortune. The fact is, you don’t need to spend thousands for a hearing aid. MDHearingAid is a medicalgrade hearing aid offering sophistication and high performance, and works right out of the box with no time-consuming “adjustment” appointments. You can contact a licensed hearing specialist conveniently online or by phone — even after your purchase at no cost. No other company provides such extensive support. Now that you know... why pay more?

Can a Hearing Aid Delay or Prevent Alzheimer’s and Dementia? A study by the National Institute on Aging suggests older individuals with hearing loss are significantly more likely to develop Alzheimer’s and dementia over time than those who retain their hearing. They suggest that an intervention — such as a hearing aid — could delay or prevent this by improving hearing!

BEHIND THE SCENES While shooting Wag the Dog (a film about a phony war contrived by spin doctors to draw attention from a president’s domestic troubles), Dustin Hoffman, costar Robert De Niro, and director Barry Levinson had an impromptu meeting at a Washington hotel with President Bill Clinton whom Christopher Hitchens and other pundits were accusing of attempting to draw attention from the ongoing Lewinsky scandal with dubious bombing missions in North Africa and the Middle East. “So what’s this movie about?” the scandal-ridden president asked De Niro. De Niro looked to Levinson hoping he would answer. Levinson, in turn, looked to Hoffman. Hoffman, with nowhere to pass the awkward question, resorted to extreme evasive measures: “I just started to tap dance,” he recalled. “I can’t even remember what I said.” Incredibly, the film’s zany plot had been conceived long before Clinton’s dog-wagging began. A fine example of life imitating art.

THE HUNGERFORD ROCKET “In 1929, Daniel, Floyd, and William Hungerford stripped a 1921 Chevrolet down to its frame and converted it into a “Hungerford,” the world’s first commercially made rocket car. The Hungerford was actually a hybrid: it kept the original Chevy engine for low-speed travel, but when the car hit 50 mph, the driver flipped a switch and the gasoline-powered, forced-air rocket engine roared to life. The Hungerford looked like a hot dog on wheels, except the rear end tapered to a point and had five rocket nozzles (four of

which were fake). Safety was not an issue: the Hungerfords gave their cars sophisticated braking systems, and built the bodies out of linoleum and cardboard, so passengers could kick their way out of the wreckage in the event of an accident. “The Hungerford Rocket was doomed from the start: it got only two miles per gallon, had a disappointing top speed of 70 mph, and left a 20-foot-long flame as it traveled... The Hungerford brothers went out of business in 1939.”

TIPS FOR THE TIPSTERS In an analysis of 23 major studies of tipping around the world, Cornell University psychologist Michael Lynn found: Servers who squatted beside a table got a dollar more per tip than those who stood. Attractive women got a 20 percent larger tip from men. Hunks did not get larger tips from women. Writing, “thank you” on the back of a check increased tips by 13 percent. Drawing a smiley face boosted tips for waitresses, but reduced tips for waiters.

NOT A SPUD & NOT A DUD ENGLAND - Potato chip makers were forced to flee their factory when they discovered one of their spuds was a hand grenade. A 330-foot exclusion zone was set up as bomb disposal teams were called to McCain’s factory in Scarborough, North Yorks. The alert came just 24 hours after the tip of a wartime shell was found at the same plant just before it went into a slicer. According to The Sun a company spokesman said, “It is something that we will be looking into with our suppliers. It is

SEEING EYE CHIHUAHUA Two women were out for a walk with their dogs. One had a Doberman Pinscher and the other had a Chihuahua. As they sauntered down the street, the one with the Doberman said to her friend, “Let’s go over to that bar and get something to drink.” The lady with the Chihuahua said, “We can’t go in there. We’ve got our dogs with us.” The one with the Doberman said, “Just follow my lead.” They walked over to the bar and the one with the Doberman put on a pair of dark glasses and started to walk in. The bouncer at the door said,

This is my SeeingEye dog.” The bouncer said, “A Doberman Pinscher?” The woman said, “Yes, they’re using them now. They’re really very good.” “OK,” the bouncer said. “Come on in.” The lady with the Chihuahua figured convincing him a Chihuahua was a seeing eye dog may be too far fetched, but thought “what the heck”, so she put on her dark glasses and started to walk in. Once again the bouncer said, “Sorry, lady, no pets allowed.” The woman said, “You don’t understand. This is my Seeing-Eye dog.” The bouncer said, “A Chihuahua?” The woman with the Chihuahua said, “A Chihuahua? They gave me a Chihuahua?!”
