CHAPTER 6 I arrived to Anthony’s gig a little late. They had already started. He immediately spotted me. I decided to wear the leather jacket I bought that afternoon and I put my long hair up into victory rolls. I went over to the stage, and he quickly pointed to a table that said reserved. Jessica was there as well, we smiled the necessary smile to each other. “Good to see you.” She said, leaving me to wonder if she actually meant it. I nodded to imply the same. Anthony looked even more incredible when he was on stage. His black hair was slightly damp with sweat from the heat of the stage lamps. They ended their fast rock style song and Anthony took the Mic, “so we are gonna slow it down a bit.” He grabbed the acoustic guitar and the spotlight fell on only him. As he sang this particular song, he was keeping his eyes fixed on me, only every so often did he acknowledge the rest of the audience. “So are you going be staying in New York for awhile?” I heard Jessica ask me. I took my eyes off of Anthony to speak with her. It was somewhat of a relief; I didn’t want Anthony to think he had me back that easily. “Yes, I think so. I guess I am just playing it by ear at this point.” I didn’t need to give her all the details, I mean it really wasn’t any of her business yet she was being friendly so I felt I would at least make an attempt to do the same. “So what do you think of the city so far?” She asked again probingly. “I like the village the best, so many little shops and café’s. It seems more artist inspired like than the rest of the city.” I told her. Happy Medium broke back into a fast tempo rock song, which quickly put Jessica’s conversation and me on hold. When the concert was over Anthony came to join Jessica and I. He slid into the chair next to me putting his arm around me. He smelled of sweet sweat. He kissed my hair and asked, “wanna hang here for a little bit? We have the club to ourselves and the owner said he will serve us if we just want to hang out.”

“Sure” I responded, I wasn’t really in any hurry to get back. The rest of the band joined us at the table. “Hey Jacynda, how you doing girl?” Rob asked giving me a hug. “I’m great Rob, how are you?” I asked “Just doing the rock scene, these days.” He responded. “JJ, this guy here is our bassist, Tyler.” Anthony informed me “Hey Tyler,” giving him a cheerful greeting. “Hey JJ.” He said smiling. Rob was definitely a percussion guy, somewhat bigger boned, like a football player, long brown hair and blue eyes. He sat down and held Jessica’s hand. They were always on again off again couple. Tyler was more the clean cut yuppie type yet his personality is what made him fit in the band so well. Anthony told me to always be on my toes when Tyler is around. He likes to play a lot of pranks and practical jokes. “So how did you two make out the other night…” Tyler said with a cocky grin. Total pun intended. Anthony crumbled up a piece of paper and whipped at Tyler. “Ah jeez I was just kidding!” Tyler said still laughing at his own joke. But I was somewhat amused by it as well. “I heard JJ you were gonna stick around a little longer, that’s pretty cool.” Rob stated. I felt myself get a little pink in the cheeks. Anthony leaned over “I’m sorry,” He whispered, “I probably should have warned you that I let them know.” “That’s ok, it’s totally cool” I said. I saw Jessica look at me and then to Anthony. There was a moment of a pause, I swear I sensed a bit of jealousy in her look but since I didn’t know her it wasn’t fair for me to pass that judgement. “Looks like we’ll be getting to hang out a bit more, huh?” Jessica said in an enthusiastic voice. “Yea, looks that way” I responded in a more shy voice. I am generally a pretty private person. I wasn’t use to all the attention focused on our rerelationship. Luckily Anthony could feel my awkwardness and changed the subject. We sat around the table until about 4 in the morning, I was really tired but didn’t want to be a nag. Anthony noticed my yawning and said, “We should get you home so you can get some rest.” “Ok, but I will be fine if you wanna stay a bit longer we can” I pressed. “Don’t be silly, I am getting tired too. Let’s go home.” He said. We left the club hand in hand.

“You looked amazing this evening.” Anthony said as he put his arm around me “Thanks” I said softly. When we got back to his place, I sat down on the couch and he sat beside me. He turned on the TV and put an arm around me. We both fell asleep on the couch almost instantly after that. We both hung out in the apartment that morning and Anthony asked “should we go hang out in Central Park for the afternoon?” “Yea, that sounds great actually.” I grabbed my book that I was reading for the 4th or 5th time now. We also packed a lunch and blanket and made our way to Central Park. There were a lot of people who seemed to have the same idea as we did that afternoon yet it did not feel crowded. Anthony had his guitar with him as well and for some reason people kept throwing there change and dollar bills into his guitar case as they passed. Even though that was not Anthony’s intention. I looked up from my book to see Anthony staring at me with a gentle look in his green eyes. “What?” I asked as I tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear. “Well, I was just thinking, maybe we better get reacquainted with each other again.” I gave a confusing look and asked, “how do you mean?” “Well, we know so much about each other, like the deep stuff. What we dream about, what we hope for but we don’t know the basics of each other. As in stuff like what’s your favorite color, stuff like that” “Anthony, you want to play 20 questions?” I mused. “Sort of.” He responded “Alright you start.” I said playing along. “What’s your favorite color?” he asked. “Purple, you?” I asked in return. “Green,” “If you could have any car in the world what would you want?” I asked. “That’s a tough question, I would say it’s a toss between a late 1970’s Trans AM or an off roading Jeep Wrangler.” “I agree with the Trans Am but my other choice would probably be something a bit more flashy like a an Audi TT or something.” I told him. We went back and forth like that almost all afternoon for movies, songs we liked the best etc. We got back to his apartment late in the day again; it was dusk. He went to the piano. Anthony never stopped moving or playing music.

“What a nice afternoon together.” I commented as I sat next to him, starting to play along with him at the piano. I wasn’t as good as he was but I could still play a little bit. He nodded slightly. “That is a good melody, you have right there. Keep going with that” Anthony told me. So we continued to play and I couldn’t help but notice how his fingers flowed over the keys like smoke moving. He made it look so easy and graceful just like he did everything else. I felt warm and safe being next to him. I was secretly ecstatic that we were trying to give us another chance but I didn’t want to give to much away in my gaze so I returned my attention back to playing. I felt Anthony lean over and kiss gently under my lower jaw. I tried to keep playing with him but it suddenly became difficult because he kept his lips there. He slowly kissed again under my jaw and moved down to the curvature of my neck. He stopped playing and moved one of his hands to my thigh, caressing just the top of it with his fingertips. His other hand was gently formed around my cheek and he delicately turned my chin so I could look at him. He looked me in the eyes and it felt like my chest was on fire. He leaned in towards me in slow motion and I could hear my breath becoming shallower with anticipation. I sucked in a large amount of air and then his lips were pressed against mine. Anthony’s lips were warm and soft just like when you lay your head to a pillow before you fall into a dreamlike state. His tongue gently traced my lips and I gave a small sigh. This was worse than any drug on the market. The high I felt from his touch, his kiss sent my emotions and vulnerability into overload. He moved his lips again to my neck and to my ear I could feel his breath hot on my skin. He whispered “Jacynda, if you aren’t ready for this yet I will understand.” Those words sent a shockwave of pleasure right through me. I was so overwhelmed by that statement; it told me he wanted this to be right for both of us. I pulled back and looked at him longingly and whispered, “Anthony, I can’t imagine not wanting you… always.” With that he scooped me up in his arms and carried me to the bedroom. Weeks went by and things were so incredible. We would take sunset walks and do all the romantic things couples do like in the movies. I felt a bit surreal. I was really happy; I even started thinking about looking at some of the schools in New York. I was considering photography or maybe even massage. I had even wondered about doing both. I felt whole again. Anthony had managed to fill that empty piece in my heart, which always belonged to him anyway.
