2011 SOUND BATTLE ROYALE

MEDIA KIT

ABOUT SOUND BATTLE ROYALE Like all great ideas, Sound Battle Royale (SBR) began as a social experiment on the back of a napkin in 2009. We wanted to see if we could spark a newfound appreciation for the music we love by recreating the live, creative experience of music production in a competitive format. In 2010, we pulled together Grammy award-winning producers, Tone Mason, local producer sensation Rich Kidd, female DJ phenom Mel Boogie and other well-respected business minds and musicians to find out if we could make it happen. In June 2010, SBR was launched. In 5 months, our little experiment turned into a multi-city movement, attracting audiences from across southern Ontario and creating buzz in major cities in the US, the UK, Western Europe and Southern Africa. By December 2010, the Toronto Star named SBR as a hotbed for new talent. We could give you the technical jargon and flowery prose, but we’ll keep it simple and to sum it up like this...

HOW WE DID IN 2010 To Give You A Sense Of SBR’s Evolution, We Felt That It Was Important To Share Some Of Our Results With You. On The Next Few Pages, You Will Find Key Information About Each Round, Including Venue, Attendance And A Short Description Of The Event In Its Stages Of Growth. 4

The People Who Sang Our Praises Every show we met people who told us over and over how much they enjoyed the event. Others were inspired to create their own music. From well-known industry players like Jake One to the Toronto Star, it is clear that we have created a niche with incredible growth potential. On the following pages, we decided to capture what a few key attendees and supporters had to say about us. “(Sound Battle Royale) is bigger than hip hop... This is not an easy idea to execute and you did it. And you found some really dope, creative people in the process.” - Jake One (Producer and founding member, Redbull Bigtune)

“It’s freestyling brought to another realm of Hip Hop”

- Toronto Star (Dec. 17, 2010)-

“This is unlike any competition I have ever seen. It’s original and super fun”

- Peter Project (SBR Winner 2010)-

ROUND FOUR

DATE: September 23, 2010 VENUE: The Drake Underground The word about SBR had spread beyond the Toronto region. Submissions poured in from across the world, including London, New York, Texas and Johannesburg, South Africa. The hip hop blogsphere had also taken an interest in the show, asking for footage to share with their readers. The result created the buzz SBR needed for the grand finale in October.

FINAL ROUND

DATE: October 22, 2010 VENUE: Wrongbar Jake One, a highly sought after producer from Seattle, Washington and founding member of Red Bull’s “Big Tune” producer battle was invited as the guest judge for the final battle. The top producer from each round went head-to-head in a number of new beat challenges. Enhancements to the show including a tag team round and collaborative beat making performance resulted in chatter all over social media (i.e. Twitter). SBR’s website received more than 300% increase in hits in the week leading up to the show. The SBR audience had grown from 80 people to over 200 in only 5 short months. The winner, Peter Project, an electro-house, hip hop producer and DJ took the title, winning $1500 and bragging rights as Toronto’s livest producer.
