He is deeply grateful as are the members of “Malawi Mercy” who organised his visit. Many thanks! FOR THOSE FACING EXAMINATIONS O Great St. Joseph of Cupertino who while on earth did obtain from God the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which I am now preparing. In return I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked. Through Christ our Lord. St. Joseph of Cupertino, Pray for us. Amen. REVIEWING THE REVIEW Last Wednesday about 100 people gathered from the 12 parishes in our Vicariate to hear Fr Alan McGuckian and Jim Deeds outline the results of the Diocesan Review held during the first 3 weeks of Lent. For a full report go to downandconnor.org/living church. The people who gathered identified themes and implications for our
Diocese as we move into the future. They considered our situation in light of Pope Francis’ words on Church in the following context: Church is Missionary - We need to proclaim the Good News in the world today - We need to be called to conversion and renewal- both individually and as a body. We recognised that we were not making decisions that night. Rather we were engaging in a conversation about what the possible implications were for our Diocese at this time. Fr Alan and Jim made the following commitments: Living Church Team will travel and listen across the Diocese in these coming weeks Collate all the things said across the Diocese Inform the Bishop Invite other parts of the body of our Diocese to the same conversation - Bishops, Clergy, Council of Priests, Diocesan Pastoral Council for example We will all enter into a period of intentional discernment – Pray Meet Discuss Come back around the end of the year to hear the fruits of that discernment and to discuss practically how we go about taking our next steps on our journey Please read Pope Francis’ letter- Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) as well as Bishop Noel’s Easter letter- The lights of Heaven. The texts will help us focus our prayers, thoughts and conversations as we travel together on the journey of faith in Down and Connor. P’STEWART PARISH CONGRESS – OUTCOMES Last week the Parish Council met to look at the outcomes of our Parish Congress. Six themes emerged from the feed-back “How do we make our parish a living parish?” Theme one: Worship Have a Children’s Mass once a month – Could the Bulletin be read after the bidding prayers? – Can we have a 'parish crier' to make announcements at end of Mass? Theme two: Education More explanation and opportunities for Holy Communion under both species – more information on the Deaconate Theme three: Social Christmas concerts and Dances – Parish and Pastoral Area socials – form a Social Committee Theme four: Communication An annual Parish Congress - Structured evaluation + review of each event, collating feedback for the future – more parish missions – offer training – develop a prayer ministry - Facebook notification Living Church Theme five: Youth Create youth group that will organise attractive events for youth - Ensure parish activities reach out to teenage children who attend schools outside parish - Help with the junior Legion and youth formation Theme six: Blue Skies Establish our own residential care home for parishioners – buy the house next door for a car-park. There is more to be read at the wall of the Baptistery.
