Collection for the Propagation of the Faith will be taken up today. The Mission Sunday collection is about supporting young churches and missionaries in meeting the spiritual and material needs of men, women and children in poorer countries overseas. COLLECTIONS Last weekend’s parish collection came to £1644. Thank you for your generosity and support. ROSARY DEVOTIONS October is traditionally the Month of the Rosary. On the Sundays of October at 6pm there will be a Rosary service in the church, using meditations; an

opportunity for all of us to take a fresh look at the Mysteries of the Rosary. As part of our celebrations, we are holding a church service in St. James’s Presbyterian Church, Ballymoney (just opposite Dalriada School) at 4pm today Sunday 21st October. It promises to be a special event and we extend a warm invitation to past and present pupils, parents and friends to join us in celebrating the history of our school. CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF VATICAN 2 You are invited to attend a talk to mark the 50th Anniversary of Vatican 2 at Tobar Mhuire on Monday 22nd October at 7.30pm. Title: ‘Behind the Scenes of Vatican 2. This class will be my last beginner class and will be your opportunity to learn to play bridge. No experience necessary. First prize £100 fuel donated by Star Fuels. Other prizes and refreshments. £5 admission including supper. All welcome. Proceeds in aid of Northern Ireland Hospice. CURSILLO WEEKEND In the Year of Faith, a Cursillo weekend could be just the thing to help deepen your appreciation of your faith and the people of faith who make up the Church. Down and Connor Diocesan Council meeting takes place today Sunday 21st October in Clonard Monastery,

Belfast from 3-4.30pm. All councils should be represented. Diocesan Mass for deceased members of PTAA will take place on Thursday 15th November at 7.30pm in All Saints Church, Ballymena. Pioneers and friends are invited to a Pre-Advent Retreat in Portglenone Abbey on Sunday 25th November. Please phone 9032 2744 for details. Spaces are limited and early booking is advisable. Cost £25, including refreshments on arrival and lunch. CHURCH REDECORATION The preparation work is complete. Painting will start early in November. This will mean disruption of our Sunday and weekday Masses. On 10th/11th November and the following weekend, Masses will be in the Parish Centre. 11th November is Cenotaph Sunday and our 11am will be at 11.30am to facilitate anyone who wishes to take part in the Service at the War Memorial. Masses during the week will be in the Marian Hall with a provision for those who cannot climb the stairs. ALTAR SERVERS Children in P5 and older may now apply to be altar servers in Star of the Sea. If you haven’t already done so, please leave your name and details with the PP. YEAR OF FAITH – 11th Oct 2012 to 24th Nov 2013 Pope Benedict called the Year of Faith to strengthen Catholics who go to church, reach out to those who have left but still yearn for God in their lives, offer a response to those who are searching for meaning and help those who think they do not need God. The Bishop’s Booklet is available after Mass at the doors of the church. It includes a full programme of events locally and diocesan-wide, as well as a Pastoral Letter. ST VINCENT DE PAUL CLOTHING DRIVE There will be a van outside the Church next weekend 27–28 October for donations of new and nearly new clothing. Please take a bag after mass this week. APOSTOLIC WORK – THANKS The committee and helpers of Portstewart Branch wish to thank sincerely the parishioners and their friends who supported our coffee morning. To date you have contributed the generous sum of £842. This will make a big difference to the lives of many people in great need. Thank you!
