fully powerful vocals and energy on stage. Promoters say the show is a “a testament to Lonnie’s lifestyle, his love of his craft and the enjoyment he gets every time he sings”. Tickets will be available at the venue.

Giants ‘to go Wilde’ at Carlton LEGENDARY Australian blues rock band The Giants will play Geelong’s Carlton Hotel on Sunday afternoon. Special guest Wilbur Wilde will join the band for the gig, beginning about 2pm. Formed in 1981, The Giants have released 14 albums and two DVDs to build on reputation as one of Australia’s greatest blues rock bands. The last album, released in December, 2009, was nominated for a quartet of Australian Blues Music Awards. The music keeps coming from the veteran rockers, with a new song and accompanying video, The Lucky Country released last month. The Giants have toured regularly in Europe, US and New Zealand as well as Australia on the back of a reputation

as one of the world’s finest “motorcycle lifestyle bands”. The line-up features vocalist Stuart Wood, Mark Greig on lead guitar, bassist Steve Brooks, guitarist Don Gadd and George Velenik on drums. Wilde has his own reputation as a veteran of Australian music, starting with Old 55 in the ’80s before a regular gig on TV with Hey Hey It’s Saturday as both a panellist and musician. His saxophone stylings should complement the bluesy sounds of The Giants. Combine this pairing of Aussie rock staples with the retro surrounds of the Carlton in its convenient central Geelong location and the mix is right for a great afternoon of music in one of the city’s iconic pubs.

Rockabilly legend Lonnie Lee plays Geelong RSL next month.

OPEN 7 DAYS

1062093-RMB06-13

LONNIE Lee will bring his authentic rockabilly to Geelong when he plays two shows in one at the city’s club on 16 March. Lee will sing his number-one hits along with crossover country classics in his rockabilly style, with the shows featuring more than 50 songs. Elvis the Hillbilly Cat show will feature many of The King’s early Sun Studio tracks as Lonnie would have recorded them. The laidback, cool presentation with backing band The Leemen will tell the story of the songwriters and music behind the young Elvis. Lee won an Australian Elvis Presley impersonation competition as a 16-year-old, so he knows how to present The King’s music. The second part of the night will be Lee’s Solid Gold Show, bringing real rockabilly to life. The set will feature hits and tributes to country rock classics, sung in three-part harmonies. Lee began performing rockabilly in the mid ’50s but still has wonder-
