I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Principal of Hampton Park Secondary College; a diverse multi-cultural community, where all members of the College can expect to feel included and be treated with respect. My background as an educator has involved working as a leader in schools across the south east suburbs of Melbourne for 30 years. For the past four years, I have been Principal of Mount Alexander College (MAC), Flemington, challenging an education system founded on a 19th Century industrial model. I have successfully led significant school improvements in engagement and learning outcomes based on the premise that schools should work towards preparing students to meet the challenges of the 21st Century, enabling them to develop the skills that will best support them in their future. Our aim is to educate our students to learn to be critical thinkers who are reflective, self-disciplined and motivated, empathetic and socially competent with the knowledge, capabilities and attitudes that will serve them today and in their future pursuits – as leaders of tomorrow. At Hampton Park Secondary College in 2020 we are moving into an exciting phase of educational reform and a new chapter of learning at the College. Our students will select subjects by reflecting on their own passions and learning needs. Wellbeing programs and opportunities to engage with community groups will be enhanced to celebrate individuality and connections, fostering a sense of belonging and inspiring the pursuit of potential. Our values of Respect, Learning and Working Together will guide our school programs and practice within and outside the classroom.
