It’s happy days for Cranny CRANBOURNE BOWLS The ladies had a massive 32 shot win against Mount Waverley midweek while on Saturday all Pennant sides won. “That makes both our ladies side and our top Saturday Pennant side undefeated for the season,” Club chief Chris Griffiths declared, before adding, “This is possibly the best start to a bowls season in as long as many members can remember. In fact, it’s happy days for Cranbourne with all sides winning on Saturday as well as the ladies team winning midweek. We are so proud of all our teams, so let’s push ahead and see how far we can go.” Ladies Side 1 Division 1 Yvonne Van Der Wees and her rink of Maureen Cameron, Helen Witherden and Lynne Wood played outstanding bowls to win by a massive 28 shots giving victory to Cranbourne by 32 shots against Mount Waverley. The other two rinks skipped by Sue Hudson and Freda Farrall also won in close games. Side 1 Division 2 Cranbourne played at home with a number of supporters watching the game hoping for a home victory and they were not disappointed with a hard-fought 14 shot victory against Clayton. Skip Ron Lyfield and his team of Brian Caddell, Peter Coulthup and Ian Barrenger were the big winners on the day with nine shots supported by Skips Frank Byrne and Barry Thomas who also won. Side 2 Division 3 Skip Chris “the Chief” Griffiths had the firepower with support from club legend Ray Boskell, John McLisky and Michael Scotter to win by 21 shots which was enough to give Cranbourne victory by 25 shots against Churchill WG. The Parkers went into Saturday’s game in very high spirits and were rewarded with an 8-shot win over 2nd top side Edithvale. In a high standard game, Trevor Harbright, Christine Hendrie, Sean McDonald and skip John Nunan kept the opposition to mainly 1s to lose by just 3 shots (14-17). Geoff Ladner, Andrew Brandolin, Neville Hendrie and skip Warwick Hardy led all day for an 11-shot win (27-16). Shane Collins, Stan Hatch, Mark Paton and skip Chris Barnes faltered in the 2nd half to go down by 8 shots (21-29). With a good start, Ken Cobden, Ellen Smith, Larry Simpson and skip Steve Barnes maintained the lead to win by 8 shots (26-18). Division 4 - Hampton 16-80 d Hampton Park 2/65 In a close game Val Simpson, Dave Clarke, Helen Lambert and skip Rob Woff missed by 4 shots.
