School plans kids of steel By Cam Lucadou-Wells Students and rugby players will be working out in a refurbished gymnasium at Fountain Gate Secondary College. The school will receive $200,000 from the State Government’s Shared Facilities Fund for the upgrade of the gym’s weights room. The gym will be shared by players at the Fountain Gate Secondary College Rugby Academy. Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said the upgrade would encourage teachers and students to be active and take pride in “this wonderful school”. “We don’t just want our young peo-
ple to learn in the classroom at school,” Mr Donnellan said. “It’s important that they participate in healthy activities and get the most out of themselves.” Victorian Rugby Union general manager Chris Evans said the rugby academy had achieved “wonderful outcomes” including the college recently winning three of four secondary school state titles. “The investment from the State Government will improve the rugby facilities and allow more boys and girls to participate in the program.” The State Government has aimed for a 20 per cent increase in students exercising one hour a day, five times a week by 2025.
