Hawks fly to top of ladder By Justin Flynn DRYSDALE sits on top of the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association ladder after two rounds. The Hawks are one of three teams sitting on nine points, but lead the ladder with a superior percentage from Jan Juc and Collendina. The Hawks enjoyed a good win against their fierce rivals Portarlington

in Round 1 but had to share the points with Collendina in round two after being in a strong position. After losing several key plays during the winter, captain/coach Nick Hallam said he was pleased with the way his side had started the new season. “So far I have no complaints,” he said. “The fielding has been really good

- we’ve pulled out five run outs so far. We’ve got a strategy in place in terms of ticking off things each week and when we got the win against Port you start to see those things turn into wins.” Hallam said he was confident of beating Collendina before the rain came on Friday. The Hawks were 0/6 chasing 150 for victory. “Obviously you’ve got to respect their bowling attack, but playing at

home, we know our ground well and I was confident we’d score the runs, but it wasn’t to be,” he said. Drysdale has left-arm seamer Dylan Justice on the injury list with a badly rolled ankle, but it has allowed veteran David Sykes to come into the team and bowl well. “You know what you’re going to get from him every time and that’s bowling one side of the wicket,” Hallam said.

“He did the full preseason with us and he has earned his spot.” The Hawks face Barrabool next round, probably at Torquay with the Bulls’ home ground at Ceres unavailable. “They’ve (Barrabool) got Kane Pickering who is a class player and if he gets on top, he can make a big hundred,” Hallam said.
