IN HIS statement for re-election, the Mayor of Casey, Sam Aziz, claims that his opponents do not have a coherent plan for the future of this city; a city impacted by poker machine addiction, high population growth, and secret council meetings. One way to make Casey a richer city is to start combating poker machine addiction. A 20 per cent reduction in spending on poker machines means people in the south-eastern suburbs will have $25 million that can be spent elsewhere, such as starting up a business, travel, or investment for their future. Under Sam Aziz nothing has been done to stop the growth in poker machine addiction. But problem gambling is behind crime in Casey. More police and 24-hour police stations will only deal with the symptoms, not the underlying problem. My first step will be to join with other councils in launching an assault on the hotel and poker industry. John Glazebrook, Endeavour Hills.

WE CONGRATULATE Cranbourne businessman Mr Barry Drayton for advocating a change this month in the City of Casey coun-

cil election. He has brought out the facts about Bunjil Place. The erection of this incredibly expensive and totally unnecessary ego-boosting new building to enable current councillors (including the CEO and office personnel) to live in a workplace luxury and point out “I built that." We are sure that this luxurious, elaborate building could out beat Parliament House. He has also drawn on the area where the present mayor in particular is sensitive to any form of opinion and that they (the council) must remember that it is we, ratepayers who pay them their fat salaries. Also mentioned are the endless color shoots by the mayor, councillors and hierarchy of the council. Another waste of ratepayers' money. Where do you see or hear from these people during their tenure of service in the council? The time has come when the future of the City of Casey is in the hands of every ratepayer who must put every existing councillor last when completing the ballot paper. Ratepayers think before you vote. We need fresh blood for our new council. Dunstan Girton and Louis Kotsiras, Hampton Park.

Tagged a terrorist IT IS deplorable that the 'Council elections

2016, Campaign race row hits’ article (13 October) should be reporting the ugly spectre of 1950s McCarthyism in 2016 Australia. Talk about history repeating itself. In 1950s with America under the sway of McCarthy whole sections of society were under suspicion, the innocent reported then persecuted. Now we have Councillor Aziz reporting 26 people just for a tag on Facebook. It appears these days in Casey you don’t even have to say something to be reported as a potential terrorist. Is the next step thought police, or to report as a potential terrorist anybody who votes for the Springfield candidate Faisal Najibi? Meanwhile your newspaper ignores real issues such as the Narre Warren power station that could affect people’s health and their homes. Refer to my website https:// www.caseyre.org and the Narre Warren power station section for details. A person’s house and land can represent the largest financial investment they may make in their lifetime. For some in Casey that financial investment is threatened by the current operation of the Narre Warren power station, the EPA guidelines and failure of Casey Council to adhere to EPA guidelines. Garry Page, Candidate for Springfield Ward.

It’s None Of Our Business But ... THE Casey Cardinia Foundation has a wonderful opportunity, as charity partner for the Cranbourne GP Run, to raise funds for the community through coin collection. But the foundation needs about 50 volunteers to assist with coin collection throughout the three-hour event on this Saturday 22 October, in Cranbourne’s High Street. If you would like to make a local difference in your local community - and can make yourself available - the foundation would love to hear from you. Volunteers would be needed between 8am and 11am in Cranbourne, and will be issued with tins and visibility wear.

A car was parked squarely in the middle of two sought-after spaces outside Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 17 October. Its personalised number plate started with

three letters - 'WTF’. AN EXCITABLE accused was meanwhile anxious to quiz people outside the court on the probity of the legal system. After posing for a selfie with another accused dressed in bold sunglasses and a gleaming suit, the man asked a bystander what did he think about the law. “It’s all in favour of the woman," he declared. The pair looked like they were dressed for the Flemington races but we assume he wouldn’t be bound for Oaks Day - the traditional ladies’ day.
