The highway is straddled by mountains. The K-2 Mountain is the second highest mountain in the world after Mount Everest. It is said to be much harder to scale the K-2 as compared to Mount Everest. Trango Towers of Baltoro Glacier and Karakoram are the world’s greatest vertical cliffs. One natural place of beauty is Pakistan’s cold desert the Skardu Desert. The desert is located in the Skardu District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Skardu is a town that is located in a valley that is ten kilometers (10km) wide and forty kilometers (40km) long. While this may seem far from interesting; the Skardu Dessert steals the show. Unlike what we may imagine or what some have experienced of a normal desert that there is sun beating down on your head and your body constantly bleeding out beads of sweat; the Skardu Desert is renowned for its cold winds that make you shiver. The dessert is said to be the highest cold desert in the world. The desert temperatures in October rise to a maximum of 27˚C and a minimum of 8˚C and drop to -10˚C between December and January. The lowest ever recorded temperatures were -25˚C. The Skardu Desert is indeed a cold and freezing desert.
