A few seconds at an exhibition in Skúrinn

Heiðar Kári Rannversson The cultural center Skúrinn is an old rusty work shed. At the initiative of the ar tist, Finnur Arnar Arnarson, it has acquired a new role and functions as a space for various ar tistic activities. Originally Skúrinn was a work shed, which the ar tist found in Kef lavík but became a par t of Finnur Arnar´s exhibition in Seltjarnarnes in 2011. Today it functions as an exhibition space for other artists along with being a forum for various cultural activities around Reykjavík. An exhibition by Kristján Guðmundson was on display from September 4th to October 4th where he showed the artwork Sýningarsekúndur. Skúrinn was located for that particular exhibition in front of a garden at Grettisgata 17. Kristján’s work derives from the concept art of the 1960’s, which has often been called literist art. In this case the

artwork, Sýningarsekúndur, could be called numerical art but it consists of a computer controlled monitor, which measures the duration of the exhibition; 2.592.000 seconds or exactly 30 days. The countdown is measured in seconds during the whole period of the exhibition until the number zero appears on the monitor. For instance when I arrived at Grettisgata the number 1.113.328 was on the monitor, which indicates that I was there on the Sunday evening of the 21st of September.
