In God’s Image June 10, 2018 9:30 a.m., Sanctuary The Trinity is both mysterious and central to Christianity. It is the belief that God exists as three persons, but is one being, having a single divine nature. The members of the Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – are co-equal and co-eternal, one in essence, nature, power, action, and will. The Trinity is both relational and of one essence.

OPENING PRAYER We gather together with praise and thanksgiving for who you are, and for all that you have done for us. You know us better than we know ourselves, all our thoughts and actions, and yet you love us. We praise you for your love and your faithful presence in our lives. May your Spirit move in our hearts and minds as we worship together; examine our attitudes and actions, lay bare the things we need to confess, challenge us with your word, and guide us on to paths that lead to life. For we are your people, called by your name. Amen. PRELUDE | Brother James’ Air Joseph Martin, arranger | Candy Hooper, pianist *CALL TO WORSHIP O Lord, you have searched us and known us. Before we move or think or speak, you know our actions and our words. You breathed life into us, and shaped us in human form to serve your purpose and sing your praise. We praise you for the gifts of substance and spirit, of acceptance and expectancy, of lineage and legacy. How wonderful are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the expanse of your grace and love! Praise the Lord! The Lord’s name be praised! *OPENING HYMN | For the Beauty of the Earth 92 | Dix *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy +catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*Please rise in body or spirit. 2

In this instance, catholic means universal.

You are the eternal mystery that enables, enfolds, and enlivens all things, even us, and even me. Every name falls short of your goodness and greatness. We can only see who you are in what is. We ask for such perfect seeing. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. Amen. SPECIAL MUSIC | Cello Suite J.S. Bach, composer | Keira Fullerton, cellist
