Former Lyric Academy performer stars opposite Jake Gyllenhaal OKLAHOMA CITY — Annie Funke; an Oklahoma City native, former long-time student in Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma’s Thelma Gaylord Academy and performer on Lyric’s mainstage; is now starring opposite movie star Jake Gyllenhaal in the hit off-Broadway play, If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet. Written by British playwright Nick Payne and presented by the Roundabout Theater Company, the production premiered at the Laura Pels Theater in September and marks Gyllenhaal’s New York stage debut. Funke’s past credits include Hairspray on Broadway where she played the lead character Tracy Turnblad and Silence! The Musical off-Broadway.

Lyric’s Artistic Director Michael Baron and Associate Artistic Director Ashley Wells traveled to New York City to see the play during the second week of October and were able to visit with Funke and Gyllenhaal backstage. “The play is a powerful family drama and the acting ensemble was superb,” said Baron. “The creative use of water as a device added to the intensity of the story. By the end of the show, the stage was literally flooded with water and the floating debris of the family’s lives.” In the play directed by Michael Longhurst, Funke’s character Anna is the awkward 15-year-old niece of Gyllenhaal’s character Terry.
