ABOUT ME

“WE SEE DESIGN AS THE EXPRESSION OF A STORY THROUGH MATERIALS, SO WE STRIVE TO CREATE SPACES OF WARMTH, EMOTION AND LIVABILITY, ALWAYS STRIVING TO DELIVER OUTCOMES THAT ARE COMPLETELY RESOLVED AND AUTHENTIC. - FIONA LYNCH

I am a Junior Interior Designer with vast experience working in a Design & Construct environment. I am greatly interested in the narrative of a space, striving to employ a holistic approach in my designs to impact and enhance the way people feel and interact with each other and their surroundings. I believe that the lifestyle of a person is strongly contributed through their immediate environment. Each project I have completed has enhanced my skills in creativity and technical works to take on new challenges and design solutions. I have gained great construction knowledge, design techniques and processes. I have also demonstrated an aptitude for colour and material selections with an understanding on producing functional and aesthetically pleasing interiors. Sustainability, adaptive re-use and suitable materials and products are daily factors that I consider in my designs. I aim to ensure that the space is suitable for all users by designing personalised details and systems. I hope to utilise my knowledge and skill set to apply to future projects while continuing to expand my design knowledge and passion.

PROJECT: YEAR: COMPANY:

HOGS CRONULLA 2018 KREATIV DESIGN

The brief of Hogs Cronulla Restaurant was to break away from the “cookie cutter” look that had been part of their mould for years within all locations. This Hogs shop was the first restaurant where the franchise owners wanted to trial and implement their new strategy for a re-invention. The goal was to create a completely revamped space that took inspiration and reflect its surroundings. The coastal environment and the restaurant’s relationship with the Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club determined the initial design intent. The overall layout had a major overhaul with the relocation of the bar area, different seating options and an overall connected atmosphere through the mix of different materials and finishes.

HOGS CRONULLA

RESEARCH, ANALYSIS & SUSTAINABILITY

Vast research and process was done to understand the site, the task and developing a realistic concept, solutions addressing lighting, acoustics and weather conditions were utilised such as: external shade and awning in entrance area, additional artficial lighting at the back and an acoustic feature timber wave ceiling. Extensive discussions with the owners displayed a need for a more suitable layout to improve the traffic flow and navigation system.

The A 12timber ceiling system is inspired by waves from the sea. Its black powdercoated steel structure forms the skeleton that helps to secure it in place. The wave is designed as such to invite people into the space.

HOGS CRONULLA

MATERIALS & FINISHES STATEMENT

All new materials were chosen to be sustainable and highly durable with heavy foot traffic. The various tiles especially were carefully picked to reflect the coastal theme. Many of the existing items like the timber tables and banquette seating were restored with new materials for a new life span. Much of the interior had a lot of timber finishes so I decided to make them into a feature by getting an artist involved to create a distressed finish. The existing ceiling near the entrance were painted in white whereas the existing ceiling located near the back areas were painted dark grey to blend the exposed wiring and pipes. Hog’s colour palette is a ‘beach shack’ look with the bright colours and murals bringing a playful nature to it.

CONCEPT Salt and Palm is a casual Indonesian-inspired eatery and small bar with a vision statement focusing on an environment and community friendly approach through their food and drinks.

PROJECT: YEAR: COMPANY:

SALT AND PALM 2018 KREATIV DESIGN

‘Creativity, Sustainability, Community’ are the core values - the design intent needs to primarily reflect this within the space. The inspiration was drawn from South-East Asian tropical designs with the decor and ambience being natural and earthy. The design plays with abstract organic shapes through shadows reflected from chosen feature lights. The overall feel with the mix of indoor and outdoor greenery creates a relaxed and warm setting for patrons.

FLOOR PLAN RESEARCH & ANALYSIS This project site is a heritage-listed building and the overall design solution was based around enhancing the characteristics of the building. The first impression as you walked into the location was that everything was quite dark; the finishes were old, broken and rusty. The existing layout was functional and suitable for my clients so after much assessment, I decided to keep the current layout and to just update all materials to modernise and rejuvenate the space.

SUSTAINABILITY

All existing elements were restored such as: Original pine timber floors sanded and sealed with water-base varnish. Only sustainable systems, materials and finishes were chosen to accomplish this. Specific elements to achieve this: Low VOC paints, Eco-friendly lighting (LEDs), Joinery fixing methods to have minimal impact, Indoor plantings to improve indoor air quality.

CONCEPT Launching of a new eatery and bar with a European influence. The project site is located within a Shopping Centre as a stand alone pavilion situated near one of the main entrances. The space was to be suitable for a wide range of users.

PROJECT: YEAR: COMPANY:

WHISTLING SPARROW 2018 KREATIV DESIGN

The concept was based on the the openness of the building and because the client also owns a book shop, I decided to really tailor the space to him and create a small reading nook to celebrate his passion for books. The colour scheme and details chosen was of nature and earthy tones. The pavilion allows for access on four sides so the obvious decision was to create an island counter in the middle of the space as our focal point. On the one wall where there was no access, I decided to create a joinery piece that went the whole length of the wall.

The brief was to create a design with a watercolour effect that would reflect the essence of the space. As the name indicates, the logo is a loose representation of a Sparrow in flight.

PROJECT: YEAR: COMPANY:

KHANTOK 2018 KREATIV DESIGN

The mission was to redesign the restaurant to reflect new owners and menu. The new identity was to attract other demographics while retaining the existing ones. The overall space has two main areas of seating - Front of House (Upstairs) and Back of House (Downstairs). The concept was based on a fresh and bright approach with Thai influences and an indoor greenery canopy to bring in the outdoors. The ambience was created with a mix of different materials and artificial lighting to achieve a cosy and intimate dining experience.

KHANTOK

FLOOR PLAN, RESEARCH, ANALYSIS & SUSTAINABILITY To understand the site and the work needed, research and analysis was done to work out the existing issues. The Front of House was a dead space with an unused bar area. Stairs leading to the Back of House area was where Patrons were welcomed for their dining experience. The solutions addressing lighting, acoustics and seating arrangements were utilised. For example, the Front of House bar was demolished and relocated downstairs, which allowed for natural light to flow through to the Back of House. Timber vinyl flooring and a mural feature wall were also added in. the bathrooms were also redesigned and a new ambulant toilet was added in. Many of the existing materials like the banquette seating and tables were sent to the joiner to be reused. All existing structural features like suspended bulkheads and timber cladding on the counter were freshly paint with low VOC paint. A vertical greenery wall and canopy ceiling improved the air quality indoors as well as for aesthetic purposes.

FABRICS, FURNITURE & EQUIPMENT

All furniture is low maintenance and comfortable for users to enjoy the experience. I have chosen the same chair for indoor and outdoor use that complements and references the materials chosen. For the waiting area located near the lift, an upholstered bench seat invites the user to sit down and relax while waiting. The styles are minimal and all edges and corners are roundes to avoid bumping into them. The lighting chosen also folow the same minimal look with lineal and circular shapes. Some brass accents can be found in them too to add a little interest.

PROJECT: YEAR: COMPANY:

ESPORTE CAFE 2018 KREATIV DESIGN

The shop’s vision is based on local, sustainable and healthy living. The products offered are fully Australian and made from natural elements. The site of the project is near the coastline and the design references a material palette consistent with the location and ideals of the owner - think timbers, whites and cool tones. Since the brief was to offer a retail experience combined with a sanctuary for young mums and their children, the design responds to both while keeping the simplicity.

MATERIALS & FINISHES STATEMENT

All new materials are low VOC and sustainable with high commercial durability. Melamine joinery was used for much needed storage space and to conceal services and equipment. Light beige curtains on brass rods were chosen to add a touch of luxury, relaxation and ease. The existing materials that were utilised were all the white melamine shelving that the client had existing. The lighting combination was a very important aspect as it was important to enhance the products on display as well as provide enough even lighting throughout the whole shop. Track lights provded the most suitable ‘gallery style’ lighting for the clothing, feature pendants added an ambience to the front of the counter, and LED downlights throughout created the even lighting for the space.

CONCEPT

PROJECT: YEAR: COMPANY:

CASTELLI GROUP 2017 STATE 28 INTERIORS

This project’s brief was to redesign the Reception, Boardroom and Kitchen Area of existing location of a large family business. Castelli Group has various companies in different disciplines so the interior needs to suit across the board. The company includes a winery, property developments and many more. The reception area was the first space you entered as you walk in - this was very important as the first impression desired was a laid-back and welcoming ambience. The Board Room and Meeting Room were to be functional and to have an impact. The Lunch Room was also carefully designed for Staff Members as a place to ‘switch off’ from work and relax. My inspiration was derived from their italian background and their love of different materials. The Castelli Group wanted the end result to be modern, yet traditional and warm.

CONCEPT

PROJECT: YEAR: COMPANY:

BIGENI RESIDENCE 2018 FREELANCE

The house was originally built in the 1960s and is set high on the ridgeline with treetop views. The concept was a celebration of the 60s era, using a mix of raw sustainable materials to blend the look within the natural landscape it sits within. To suit the needs of the owner, the design focuses on creating a proper entry, relocation of the laundry, adding an extra bedroom amongst other things. Chosen Look: Modern Mid Century

SUSTAINABILITY

The largest component that was re-used was the existing pine flooring throughout the house. In order to assess wasted energy, lighting, heating and cooling methods were used such as new insulation system, skylights, operable louvre windows to decrease dependency on reverse air systems. All new materials are sustainable and low impact. Both natural and artificial lighting are used throughout the spaces. The use of natural light is prominently used by the window and door locations - it is important that the interior evokes feelings of happiness and relaxation. A combination of LED downlights and decorative feature lights create some mood lighting whilst acting as a feature element. The Bigeni Residence features clean lines, timbers, metals, organic feel, lots of natural light from big windows, geometric patterns, textures and openconcept floor plan.

PERSONAL PROJECTS THE COURTYARD HOUSE

CONCEPT

PROJECT: YEAR: COMPANY:

THE COURTYARD 2017 FREELANCE

This design has been created based on a lifestyle that I personally lead that focuses on relaxing and entertaining. The U-shaped interior wraps around a courtyard area, creating a cozy sanctuary. The design focuses on open plan living, blurring the barriers by bringing the outdoors inside. The warmth of wood finishes balances out the rawness and industrialistic feel of exposed steel and concrete. The minimalistic aspects of the design is created with many concealed joinery systems that accomodates with my daily lifestyle. The colour palette is based on neutral and earthy tones with a playfulness in bold cabinetry colours.
