ST. PAUL   TIMES THE FOURTH EDITION NOVEMBER 2016

THE MEANING OF THANKSGIVING Thanksgiving is a North American holiday that helps us to remember the Autumn harvest feast that was first celebrated in 1621 by the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag Indians.

SO MUCH TO BE GRATEFUL FOR!

The holiday was not  officially celebrated until 1863, during the Civil War, when President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving Day a holiday to be held each November. Thanksgiving is a holiday where family and friends show appreciation for one another. The Thanksgiving meal is a time for family and friends to gather around the table to enjoy a meal that usually consists of a turkey, vegetables and dessert.

The turkey is either roasted, baked or deep fried, with side dishes like vegetables and desserts (example, a delicious apple  or pumpkin pie.) Another very common activity that occurs during Thanksgiving is people showing good acts of  kindness for  community  organizations like usually hosting  small free dinners for the people in the community who are less fortunate. Parades are also something that is  a very prominent part of Thanksgiving. These parades usually feature marching bands, performers, hot air balloons and sometimes celebrities walking along the city main streets in front of clapping and cheering crowds.

REMEMBERING   VETERANS DAY VETERANS DAY IS A DAY THAT WE REMEMBER ALL THE SOLDIERS THAT HAVE FOUGHT IN WARS FOR FREEDOM.  ON THE ELEVENTH DAY, OF THE ELEVENTH MONTH, PEOPLE STAND IN RECOGNITION OF THOSE BRAVE SOULS.
