Memories of Great Adventures Creating beautiful, lasting memories is a goal everyone pursues, but not everyone is as blessed as those who get to work at, or attend St. Paul American School Hanoi. As your principal, I feel honored everyday to be a part of St. Paul Hanoi because I get to experience the adventures that become the lasting memories that most people on this planet will never embrace. We have our mission, our goals and strategies for success, but nothing compares to the memories of our adventures while pursuing success. Ralph W. Emerson said, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” It’s my hope that this quote will have an impact on all who have attended St. Paul Hanoi. Ater all, enthusiasm is the fuel

that burns inside while we pursue success. It is my hope that all of you will keep that ire burning within you now and into the future. hank you to everyone that contributed to this year of success, and thank you to all who contributed to this great book of memories. Sincerely,

Dr. Steve Jordahl, Principal

A wonderful year of Growth Growth has been the product of the elementary school during this past academic year. St. Paul American School Hanoi and its faculty have grown and the student body has grown. Our curriculum has expanded. his year the student body has doubled in size, the faculty has as well, and the building is now being fully utilized. Sometimes we feel that we are bursting at the seams. We have grown in our use of technology through individual classroom computer labs as well as in the ways that teachers are able to utilize technology in their teaching. hroughout this book, you will see many other ways that students are learning and growing at St. Paul Hanoi. For our students, growth happens in many more ways than just physical growth. Intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth is the focus of all that we do with the students and in each of these areas they have manifested much

growth. hey perform at a diferent cognitive level than they did in August in all areas of study. heir command of the English language has increased and is demonstrated through their abilities to read, write, speak and listen. Our students have the privilege of accessing the vast sports areas and facilities included in our physical space. his promotes the development of their motor skills through sports and exercise. Because our students relect many diferent cultures, we focus on our belief that through their contributions and strengths they enrich our school community. Our students have learned to socially navigate in this diverse setting which promotes growth that is oten not to be experienced in other educational settings. Because St. Paul Hanoi is a diverse educational setting, our students must demonstrate emotional growth that is beyond the demands of most

homogeneous student bodies. hey must develop a sensibility which includes an intimate understanding of and respect for other cultures which is oten beyond that of others their ages. Sharing this year with our students and their families, as well as the school administration, staf and faculty has resulted in a year of growth for me. I feel so privileged and grateful. Sincerely,

Elizabeth Tillmanns

I enjoyed teaching every one of my students in the 4th Grade immensely. hey are all incredibly talented and they taught me new things every day. As a teacher, I tried to teach the students to respect and be kind to each other. hey oten heard me say; “If you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.”. I hope to see you all in Ireland someday. - Ms. Sophie “Don’t study to earn, study to learn. What you learn today is what you will become tomorrow.“
