AIR NATL. GUARD 164 TH AIRWING
MEMPHIS, TN
SSR led the team of professional planners, engineers, and architects in the development of the master plan, design guide, and the facility requirements that were used in the preparation of the detailed engineering design for the Tennessee Air National Guard 164th Airlift Wing.
The entrance control system included designing the configuration of the main entrance to control the access to the base while still properly providing for the movement of peak traffic. This included the proper placement of traffic-controlling aircraft cable to line the interior drive so that any vehicle crashing the main gate is forced to a single control point that will then deploy a pop-up vehicle barrier.
TENNESSEE STATE CAPITOL
NASHVILLE, TN
SSR was hired to be the prime engineering consultant for an infrastructure upgrade project to the historic Tennessee State Capitol. The overall intent of the project was to replace 50-year-old MEP infrastructure with modern, code-compliant, functional, and energy efficient systems and provide new state-of-the-art security systems to align with the current uses and needs of the facility.
All renovations were considered and implemented with the utmost of attention to maintaining the historic integrity of this valued building. SSR contracted with an architectural sub-consultant specializing in historic renovations to aid in advising on historic architectural impact of any potential modifications. Accelerated schedules made scope additions challenging for the time allotted between legislative sessions. Careful, dedicated attention was required for proper staffing and scheduling of both the design and construction implementation scope. SSR assisted the owner and lead the design team through constant coordination and project planning meetings with all project stakeholders, including high-level government officials.
FIRE STATION NO. 4
VILLAGE OF COUNTRYSIDE
NEW MUNICIPAL CENTER & POLICE HEADQUARTERS
GERMANTOWN, TN
As part of the city’s Smart Growth Plan, the City of Germantown decided to replace a 50-yearold, 4,000 SF firehouse. The two-story, 14,500 SF facility was designed to complement the neighborhood, using traditional architecture. The facility includes an eight-bunk room to accommodate three shifts, three apparatus bays, and a large training room for use by the fire department or the City of Germantown.
SSR provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services, and LEED® consulting services.
COUNTRYSIDE, IL
The City of Countryside embarked on a progressive project — creating a new City Hall & Police Headquarters to achieve Net Zero energy use. The facility houses comprehensive police department operations, all city departments, necessary support space, and shared building use.
SSR was sought by the project team as a result of our experience in energy efficiency and commissioning services. Our services included commissioning, building enclosure, monitoring based commissioning, and Net Zero consulting.
FORT HILL ACTIVITY CENTER
FRANKLIN POLICE DEPARTMENT
NAPERVILLE, IL
SSR provided commissioning services on this $24 million, 80,000 SF new activity center for the Fort Hill Activity Center in Naperville, IL. The facility provides a wide array of indoor recreation activities, sports, and fitness and wellness programs for the community, including childcare.
Our services included commissioning, building enclosure, and sustainability consulting.
FRANKLIN, TN
SSR provided commissioning and infrared thermography services for this 95,000 SF police headquarters building located in historic downtown Franklin, TN. The LEED Gold® certified facility includes three vehicle bays, an evidence processing area, a large conference and community room, a forensic laboratory featuring fuming chambers and mobile lab stations, as well as offices and work areas to support the daily operations of the Franklin police force. Warranty period services included complete building thermographic imaging and analysis performed to verify the quality of the exterior envelope construction and identify any areas for related warranty work.
TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM
NASHVILLE, TN
The new Tennessee State Museum (TSM) is a replacement facility, and the first major new construction project overseen by the State of Tennessee Real Estate Asset Management agency in decades. Planned as a 100-year building, the new TSM’s design incorporates high quality, high performance materials and systems throughout to preserve and display historical artifacts and treasures that dynamically demonstrate the history of the state. SSRCx was able to supply many of the specialized resources the state needed to address the project’s challenges by helping to assess the quality and performance of building systems from design through the first few years of operation. Our team is performing the following services:
• Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems commissioning (MEPCx)
• Building enclosure commissioning (BECx)
• Operations & maintenance research and recommendations
• Utility estimating
• Measurement and verification planning and implementation
• Monitoring Based Commissioning (MBCx) and Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD)
BEALE STREET LANDING
MEMPHIS, TN
SSR provided civil and structural design services for the new Beale Street Landing project on the Mississippi River. The project consisted of a public park, boat docking facility, and terminal building. SSR designed and coordinated all site related work including the drainage system and erosion prevention and sediment control over a 10 year time line.
With an average annual fluctuation of 45 feet and daily fluctuations of several feet, waterfront access along the Mississippi River is limited and dangerous. To accommodate the elevation changes, the design team created a 400-foot long floating dock attached to a five-level helical ramp. As the river rises and falls with daily and annual fluctuations, the hydraulic ramp can adjust to the required river water level to allow constant and secure waterfront access.
As part of the requirements for this environmentally sensitive project, a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan was developed and submitted to TDEC.
TBI CRIME LAB
JACKSON, TN
The Special Agent De’Greaun ReShun Frazier (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation) TBI Crime Laboratory and Regional Headquarters was built on a plot of land on Smith Lane, just south of the Jackson Regional Airport. The approximately 50,000 SF facility replaces the Memphis Crime Lab, allowing TBI to provide expanded and more efficient services to agencies across the 21 counties the TBI serves in West Tennessee.
TBI’s new facility includes designated space for eight forensic units, including forensic biology, firearms, and toxicology, along with office space for Special Agents, and designated meeting rooms for training events.
SSR provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology design services for this project.
