New Application and Windows Update Deployment Process
SSR has installed a new PC management system called KACE SMA. This will help IT better manage computers in our hybrid office/home environment and make it easier to install Windows Updates and computer applications. During installs, colleagues will see pop-up boxes with a title of “Smith Seckman Reid, Inc.” and the KACE logo. See sample pictures below to recognize valid alerts. When a reboot is required for updates to complete, there will be an option to snooze the update to avoid work interruptions. After snoozing a maximum of five times, a reboot will automatically occur to ensure patches are installed in a timely manner.

SPOTLIGHT SPOTLIGHT
Meet Tucker Shepard
Over the past few years, with the increase in cyber-attacks, SSR has invested in additional software tools to make us more secure. This year we saw the need for a full-time colleague to focus solely on monitoring and responding to these threats and strengthen our overall security. In August, Tucker Shepard joined the SSR IT team as a Security Analyst. Tucker comes to SSR with a solid background in security and a desire for continuous learning to keep up with the everchanging cybersecurity landscape. His experience and primary focus will allow SSR to be more efficient in maintaining a strong security posture and help minimize disruptions from security incidents.
In his role, he will help everyone at SSR continue to develop deeper security awareness. He will also continue to refine our policies and procedures while serving as a dedicated resource for all colleagues’ questions or reports relating to security.
In three short months Tucker has brought tremendous value with his detailed and thorough work ethic along with his quick responsiveness – traits that will serve SSR well as we continue to raise the bar in keeping our physical and cyber data safe.
COLLEAGUE KUDOS
Kudos to Max Connor (Nashville, Project Manager) and Jake Moster (Nashville, Mechanical EIT) for an awesome job mentoring summer intern, Eli Gonas. Eli recently left a review of his experience at SSR on handshake, a student platform used for recruiting across the country.
Part of Eli’s review said, “I wish that I had been able to stay longer.”
The success of Eli’s internship has two major contributors. First, it is team players and leaders like Max and Jake who took the time to train and teach him what SSR does. Second, is the meaningful touches and relationships built during his time.
