Scioto Ridge Church Family, Grace and peace to you from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In your hands is a comprehensive magazine outlining the various missions and ministries of our church. As you can tell, it is hefty. We are a congregation that takes seriously our mission to Seek the Unchurched, Nurture Disciples, and to partner with Jesus to Transform the World. Within these pages you will discover the many ways we work to accomplish our mission.
At the dawn of 2023, we launched an All In ministry plan. Our All In plan serves as an invitation for you to discern, discover, and decide how you will serve at Scioto Ridge. Being All In will look different for each of us. For some, it is through financial resources. For others, it is serving in children’s ministry, youth ministry, or one of our many feeding ministries. For some, it’s serving as an usher, greeter, or cafe servant. Or maybe it’s serving as a congregational care coordinator or on the prayer team. Maybe you’ll discover a new way to serve that’s not found in this magazine.
As I celebrate my 10th year as one of your pastors, I am excited for what God has in store for our future. I believe our days ahead are bright, and God has much for us to do together for the sake of the Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. I encourage you to spend time reading about our many ministries, enjoy the photos of our church at work, and may the testimonials inspire you to go deeper in your faith.
As I think about what is ahead of us, I am encouraged by the words of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. In his final words, he said, “The best of all is, God is with us!”
Truly, God is with us as we commit to being All In!
In Christian Love, Senior Pastor“Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second is this, “You will love your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:29-31
In 2023, Scioto Ridge launched a new ministry theme, “All In: Heart, Soul, Mind, Strength, Neighbor.”
We believe Scioto Ridge is being called to become a people who are emotionally and spiritually whole. Being emotionally and spiritually whole is to love God with all of one’s heart (emotional care), soul (spiritual care), mind (intellectual care), and strength (physical care), so that we might fully love our neighbor as ourselves.
We, the congregation of Scioto Ridge, are the body of Christ. Each of us has the opportunity to be All In at Scioto Ridge in the ways we serve, the discipleship classes we take,
the missions we support, and the finances we give.
What does “All In” look like for you? It will be different for everyone. So, we offer this comprehensive magazine as an invitation for you to review the current serving and learning opportunities at Scioto Ridge.
We invite you to read through these pages and catch a glimpse of what God is doing through the ministries of the church. As you read, ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes, ears, heart, and mind so that you might explore what All In means for you.
Invite everyone to discern and discover what being All In means for you, and put into place an action plan. Ask yourself:
• What ministries am I currently serving in?
• What ministries do I feel God is leading me to be a part of?
• What is my action plan? Where will I become involved and grow in my faith?
Inspire first time givers to begin a journey of generosity, and challenge current givers to take their next generosity step to accomplish financial goals set by the leadership of the church. Ask yourself:
• What is my current level of giving?
• Where do I feel God is calling me to give for the remainder of 2023?
• Then prayerfully discern where God is leading you to give in 2024.
Here is what you will find in the following pages:
• A summary of how each of our ministries fulfill the mission of Scioto Ridge.
• A brief list of ways to serve and connect in each ministry area.
• Stories of impact from people who have felt the transformative power of God through the ministries of Scioto Ridge.
• The staff contact for each ministry.
As you read through the magazine, you will find a lot of information. It may feel overwhelming as you discern your All In. You might be questioning your strengths and passions or asking yourself where do I want to begin my journey in serving, or where do I want to serve next? If you have these questions, Scioto Ridge offers a SHAPE assessment that will help you hone in on the gifts and talents God has given you.
Jesus said that we are most like him when we serve like him (Matthew 25:32-40; John 13:12-17). Serving at Scioto Ridge can be as simple as seeing a need and filling that need. However, we understand that sometimes recognizing your own gifts and passions can be difficult. We invite you to participate in SHAPE. God has given each of us a SHAPE for ministry. Our SHAPE, Spiritual Gifts, Heart’s passion, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences, gives us a unique way to see our primary ways to serve internally and missionally. The SHAPE assessment can be taken at www.srumc.org/shape. Then, email Pastor Todd Richards at pastortodd@srumc.org to schedule a one-on-one visit to dig into your results.
“For me, the All In campaign came at a perfect time. I’ve been here a year now, and I have been very conscious of the fact that I need to engage more at church. To that end, I have established a fairly consistent time of devotions each morning before I start my day. I have also been more conscious of directing my artwork toward God. I am pleased to be using whatever talent I have to further God’s Kingdom.”
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
At Scioto Ridge, we encounter God’s transformational grace by growing as disciples of Jesus Christ. A disciple knows what Jesus knew, does what Jesus did, and seeks to live like Jesus in God’s Kingdom. Disciples do life and serve together.
Life Groups are small groups of people who meet to “watch over one another in love.” They gather to connect with God through shared experiences, by serving together, learning from one another, and building relationships based on love and mutual trust.
Men’s Transformational Groups meet weekly to ask one another two of John Wesley’s historic questions— “How is it with your soul?” and “How is your life in God?” By sharing their stories, they learn from one another how to see God in the good, bad, ugly, and beautiful of life.
Alive in Christ represents our wisest generation. They meet together in love, fellowship, and service monthly. Through travels and various learning opportunities, they seek to be people who continue to grow in their faith.

Life-App Classes are short-term classes designed to help people bridge the gap between Scripture and everyday life. There are courses in parenting, relationships, emotional health, spiritual growth, and more.
DISCIPLE Courses take students deep into Scripture through reading, studying, and fellowship during 32 to 34 week sessions.
The Upper Room is a daily devotional guide written by individual Christians currently on their own walks of faith. Every two months a new issue is released and is available for free at the church.
Adult Special Needs Sunday School offers people with special needs a safe and loving environment to grow as disciples of Jesus. Through fellowship, lessons, singing, and creative arts, adults with special needs mature in their faith with the love and care of qualified and trained adult servants.
Women’s Bible Study Groups offer women of all ages the opportunity to gather and learn how to be disciples of Jesus Christ through their study groups.
Special Events are day and weekend long learning intensives in spiritual formation, finances, parenting, marriage, social justice issues, and more.
Emmaus Walks allow Scioto Ridge the opportunity to attend and serve on a special retreat where they encounter the overwhelming love of God.
Beer and Bible is a group that meets at local bars, pubs or restaurants on a monthly basis to discuss spiritually relevant issues. This is a great opportunity to advance your faith alongside other growing Christians.
United Women in Faith is an international United Methodist ministry that emphasizes missions and social justice. This group equips and empowers women of all ages to grow in their faith and use their unique gifts to serve others as witnesses for Jesus Christ.
Men’s Ministry Group meets monthly for fellowship, service, and spiritual growth.
The All In goal of Discipleship Ministries is to equip our congregation in their faith journey through their participation in groups, classes, and formational events.

“There are three things I think make the Disciple courses wonderful. First, the student in me appreciates the comprehensive study of Scripture. The child of God in me appreciates having a deeper understanding of God’s love by learning of God’s interaction with humankind through the millenniums. The communal me loves my fellow classmates as we learn, share and pray together.”
“Being in a men’s group has become a significant part of my faith and relationship with God. Every week we get together to share what our week has been like, good and bad, and how our relationship with God has helped us deal with it, and we get to hear the same from others. I realize what I experience each week is not that much different from anyone else. Plus, I often learn how to deal with the bad, and I get to celebrate the good stuff with the group. There is also a strong friendship and trust in each other within our group that has happened over time that enhances the whole process of the group meeting.”
Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13:2
Hospitality ministries create a safe, friendly, warm, and caring environment for all to know they are loved. We work to show the love of Jesus to all people who walk through the doors. We do this with handshakes, an embrace, reaching out, and with an approachable and open spirit.
We continually strive to be a welcoming congregation. Our mission to Seek, Nurture, and Transform starts the moment when one walks in the door to the days, months, and years that follow. There are multiple ways to help provide a hospitable place to worship for first time visitors, returning guests, and members alike. Serving in any one of these areas is an incredible opportunity to show love and grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Greeters welcome each person who comes to church with a smile and greeting by standing at entry doors.
Ushers greet the congregation, hand out bulletins, help people find seating, collect the offering and other duties for worship services.

“Food has always been my ‘love language’. If I learn someone needs a meal, I’m on it. This passion came from my father, who loved to serve the community through food. I love to cook at home, but baking has not been my strength. I started baking cookies in 2022 on Saturday nights to fill my time with service instead of activities with only short-term benefits. Mixing different ingredients together and making something good is a like a church community. I believe in hospitality and making people feel welcome to worship God on Sundays. Cookies before and after worship keeps people in fellowship, and for me this is what I pray over my cookies.”
- Mike Dever“I truly enjoy ushering on Sunday mornings. I get to greet people week after week. We share jokes and stories. The fellowship is a blessing. I also enjoy helping the service run smoothly and support the worship any way I can.”
“Since walking through the doors in 2020, SRUMC welcomed my husband and I in with open arms! We have found such a welcoming family here to help us grow in our love of Christ. We feel at home at a church that not only says they are diverse and welcoming, but lives it out wholly every single day.”
“Serving communion is a joy! Being able to share in giving the bread and the cup in Jesus’ name is ‘an honor’, shared a new member who served for the first time.
Another said ‘being able to present Christ to those who are seeking relationship with Him’ is very meaningful. We give and we receive at the same time. ”
- Sue CarmanTherefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe.

The goals for worship at Scioto Ridge will always remain the same— to lead people in moments of authentic worship. We will continue to plan powerful and meaningful sermon series designed to lift the name of the Lord above all else.
We have two different services at Scioto Ridge on Sunday mornings, contemporary worship at 9:30 and traditional worship at 11:00. Both of the services are streamed live to friends and family outside the church. Each service provides opportunities to be All In with your time or talents.

“I am full of gratitude for the incredible journey of faith I’ve been on, thanks to our wonderful church community at Scioto Ridge. One of the most beautiful aspects of our church family has been the opportunity to be a part of the choir. As I stand with my fellow choir members, singing praises to God, it feels like I’ve come full circle to the days of my childhood when I sang in the church choir with my family. Those memories are etched deep in my heart, and being in the choir now rekindles that sense of joy and togetherness. Singing in the praise band has been another incredible experience for me, as a unique opportunity to praise God in a way that resonates with others. I’d like to also mention how our youth program has touched the lives of my children. The retreat to Lakeside was a life-changing experience for each of them. They returned not only with unforgettable memories but with a deeper understanding of their faith and a sense of belonging within our church family. I am so thankful that they have a church family that always welcomes them with open arms and helps them grow in their faith. For me, our church is my “happy place.” Each time I walk through those doors, I feel a sense of peace and renewal. The sermons, the fellowship, the music – it all leaves me feeling positive and refreshed, ready to face the challenges of the world with faith in my heart.”
“Over the years, I was somewhat familiar with Scioto Ridge. I visited a few Sundays and felt that the warm greetings of the people, the ministers, their sermons, and the music had renewed my Christian faith. After attending the new member class, I immediately decided that Scioto Ridge would be my church home.”
“Growing up in the United Methodist Church, I have fond memories of Sunday school, VBS, the children’s Christmas program, and youth fellowship. Those programs were instrumental in shaping my faith. I am so appreciative that my children had the opportunity to participate in such an amazing children’s ministry at Scioto Ridge.
The children’s ministry was a driving factor in selecting SRUMC to be our home church. Now that they have “graduated” from Scioto Ridge Kids, I am blessed to watch them give back as youth servants.”
Then little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them; but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” Matthew 19:13-14
Family, in all its beautiful forms, is a critical part of our ministry at Scioto Ridge. We value the building and supporting of healthy family relationships. Whether single or married, widowed or divorced, whatever your family looks like, we are ready to walk alongside and face the challenges of life with you. Everything we do in Family Ministries centers on equipping families to grow as disciples of Jesus.
Serving means using the gifts and abilities that God has given you to help others. Giving unto others is a vital way of exemplifying God’s love for children. The possibilities to serve and connect in Family Ministries are endless. Whether behind the scenes or one-on-one with children or youth, your example of service shows these young people how important it is to love others.
Upward Sports Ministry opens our doors to hundreds of young basketball players and cheerleaders in the winter. This is a completely servant driven ministry. Coaches, referees, and concession stand servants make this ministry one of our largest serving opportunities.
Easter EggStravaganza is one of our fun, spring outreach programs. In addition to providing a fun Easter event for children in the community, it provides another opportunity for us to serve others.
Scouts is an important ministry of the church. We support Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America.
Treats and Treasures provides a safe space for kids to trick or treat, play games, and do crafts. We also host an annual chili cook-off.
Parent Connect opportunities provide a way for parents and guardians to connect with one another and our ministry leaders. Throughout the year we host a number of informational and supportive gatherings such as round-table discussions, youth parent potlucks, book studies, and one-on-one meetings with ministry leaders.
PJs and Pancakes is run by our youth every February. It serves as both a fundraiser for youth summer camp at Lakeside and an amazing breakfast before church services.
Family Ministry Events happen throughout the year and are a perfect way to join together in fellowship. These events range from a lavish winter ball to a boisterous family pool party and much more.
The Family Ministries team strives to be All In by strengthening the spiritual lives of families.

“I have been doubly blessed with a nurturing church home here at Scioto Ridge and the amazing opportunity to serve in our Children’s Ministry. Storytelling in VBS, assisting in the Children's Christmas Program, and hosting Kids Worship has allowed me to be a part of little lives, watching them grow and mature physically and spiritually. I get to play and pray with them. How cool is that? I also get to share my faith in God and love of Jesus. Serving in Children's Ministry has given my faith purpose and fulfillment I never expected. For me, this is true joy!”
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

“Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church has always welcomed our non-traditional family. When we signed up for MDO and said we were an LGBTIA+ family, we received nothing but love and acceptance. It was beyond appreciated in what can sometimes be a hostile world. A place we stumbled on with a Google search became a job, a family, and a home. We will forever be grateful for the experiences our kids got to have as it has made a lasting impact on our entire family. The MDO program has been an outstanding experience for our family. We have loved watching our children grow and learn in a caring environment. We are grateful to have found the MDO program and are happy to be part of the MDO family.”
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Children’s Ministry shares the love of God and disciples children from kindergarden through fifth grade. We want children to know that God loves them, created them for a purpose, and that God is with them all the time and everywhere they go. We strive to create a small group learning community where kids are nurtured and can form bonds not only with one another, but also with key adults in their life who can help mentor them throughout their faith journey.
We do this by living into the mission of Scioto Ridge. We seek opportunities such as Vacation Bible School and the annual Easter EggStravaganza. We nurture our families and children through weekly worship and kids programming. We transform the world by equipping families and kids with the necessary tools to share God’s love at home and beyond.
Sunday Kids Worship is the term for our kid’s programming on Sunday mornings. At the 9:30 and 11:00 services, we offer a dynamic 60-minute learning experience for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Kids start in a large group watching our weekly Bible story, singing fun worship songs, and playing games. They then break out into grade-level small groups that help reinforce the Bible story with fun and engaging activities.
Wednesday Night Kids Programming is offered during our Wednesday Nights at Scioto Ridge each fall. Several Christ-centered classes that help children grow further in their faith journey are offered. Whether it’s through art, games, or activities, kids learn more about the Bible and what it means to follow Christ.
Vacation Bible School is one of our largest community outreach events reaching over 300 kids with the message of Jesus Christ. With the help of over 150 servants, we offer a five-day mini-camp with morning and evening sessions. Through fun and exciting Bible stories, worship songs, hands-on activities, crafts and games, kids learn that Jesus loves them.
Third Grade Bibles are presented each fall to our third grade class during a special afternoon service.
Children’s Christmas Program is a wonderful way for kids to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Through song, skit and dance, kids help tell the story of the true reason for the season.
Children’s Ministries strives to create continuous programming to engage children in opportunities throughout the year to further their spiritual growth as they discover what being All In means to them.

“Volunteering with VBS at SRUMC is an amazing experience!
The team comes together to build a safe world for the children to come and learn about Christ and His love for them. From singing songs, to getting silly with the kiddos, God’s love shines bright! It’s such a wonderful way to tap into your inner child. I love to listen to the stories that the children tell each other as they pass through the halls from one station to another. Come be blessed this summer and volunteer with the VBS team!” - Heather Sherrill
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
Youth Ministry is about focusing on relationships. Through intentional relationships with mentors and peers, Youth Ministry at Scioto Ridge equips and empowers middle and high school students to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. We do this through structured events like Youth Fellowship, retreats, and mission trips. We also strengthen relationships through other events like Homework Club, lock-ins, and impromptu gatherings. Young adults find themselves in a special place in their faith journey. We want to walk alongside them as they discover what adult discipleship looks like for them.
Youth Fellowship (YF) is the weekly gathering of our youth each Sunday night. We have games, lessons, and dinner which provides time for youth to gather and share with one another about their week.
Youth Homework Club meets weekly during the school year. Here they have an opportunity to work together and receive help from others.
Lakeside for Youth is the camp that our high school youth attend each summer. It is a week spent in the Lakeside community where they have opportunities to worship, hear talented speakers, and experience plenty of bonding time.
Messtival is an event that kicks off each new year in August. We play messy games and have a blast to capture the last bit of summer fun.
Confirmation classes begin each October for those in seventh grade, but all youth who have not participated before are welcome to join. We have bi-monthly classes which set the groundwork of their faith journey.
Youth Retreats allow for an incredible time of bonding with one another. Each retreat is filled with opportunities to learn through lessons and have fun away from home.
Youth Missions is an opportunity for middle and high schoolers to leave their communities and cultures and serve other members of God’s kingdom. Whether it’s traveling to Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Kentucky to assist in the maintenance of the facilities that support their community or serving our local community, youth learn what it means to serve.
Youth Lock-Ins are basically sleepovers but bigger. We stay at the church overnight and have fun using the space of the whole building.
Afternoons happen after the youth have served and shared the love of Christ with kids from our community. When morning VBS is done, the youth venture out into the community to have fun and enjoy their time with fellow servants. Help to plan and drive for these afternoons are always needed.
College Age People (CAP) is a life group beyond high school. It is designed to help young adults continue their faith journey in relationship to one another and Jesus Christ.
College Care Package ministry sends out themed boxes filled with fun goodies for our college students.
By opening our hearts and minds to these young people, we can easily see that they are capable of great emotion and passion. The church is a welcoming environment for youth and young adults. Our goal is to always make the church feel like a second home. It is so important to support this group. They are exceptional people and need role models to exemplify living a life with Christ.
Youth Ministry’s goal is to grow the future of the church through our young members. This means providing them with the necessary spiritual mentors and activities to deepen their faith so they too can discover their All In.

“One Sunday in September, a new girl arrived as we were beginning YF. She had participated with the youth VBS activities that summer, but this was her first time at YF. She walked in slowly but lit up as soon as she saw a familiar face. As more students trickled in, she looked up and said, ‘I didn’t think I’d know anybody. This is great!’ Our youth program, like the rest of Scioto Ridge, is creating new connections within our community every time we meet.”
- Charlie Prior“Youth ministry helps us connect a lot with other people, especially younger students or people who haven’t been able to experience faith in the same way we have. It helps provide people with a new perspective they may have never seen, as well as the opportunity to hear about and experience the love of God.”
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor.
Romans 12:10
The Bible tells us that we are set apart to love and care for those around us. Faith and good works belong together. What we believe must be shown through our actions. Many of those actions take place in the form of congregational and community care. Below you will find many ways in which the congregation of Scioto Ridge cares for each other and those outside our walls.
Prayer Shawl Ministry team members gather to knit prayer shawls that symbolize the healing presence of God. After a time of knitting, they gather around the shawls and pray for the people who will receive them. Scioto Ridge prayer shawls have traveled all over the globe, letting people know that God is with them in sickness and difficult times.
Prayer Requests can be submitted through the website, by filling out a Connect Card each Sunday, or calling the office. We are a congregation that prays together. Prayer Requests are sent to a network of prayer warriors ready to connect with God on behalf of others.
Sunday Morning Prayer Team gathers in Prayer Chapel to pray for the services and offer care to people in need of prayer. They invite the Holy Spirit to be present and fill each seat, hallway, and room with the presence of God.
GriefShare Support Group is designed to bring people together who have lost a loved one to death. The sessions consist of a Christian-based video and group discussion. No matter where you are in your stage of grief, this group is open to you.
Box Lunch Program prepares boxed lunches for those in need of a homemade meal. Whether it’s for a homebound senior or an ill congregation member, the sight of
a friendly face always brings joy and lifted spirits.
Funeral Meal Team is a truly inspirational group of people who come together at a moments notice and provide meals when families are in the midst of their grief. This group knows the importance of the service they are providing when they are preparing a homemade luncheon for a Celebration of Life service.
Health and Wellness Ministry members know that a relationship exists between one’s mind, body, and spirit. When any one of these parts are in distress, the others are affected as well. The Health and Wellness Ministry’s mission is to provide information and knowledge that will help raise awareness of the relationship between health and spirituality.
Parish Nurse Program is an integral part of the Health and Wellness Ministry at Scioto Ridge. A Parish Nurse is someone who responds to the health needs of people within a congregational setting. The Parish Nurse can help individuals in our church family with health-related questions; support during recovery from illness or crisis; provide assistance in understanding medications, medical equipment, or diet plans; and provide referrals to community and professional resources.
Hospital Visitations occur as part of our Health and Wellness Ministry. This includes visits to hospitals for those having surgery, recovering from illness, and healing from injury.
Blood Pressure Screenings are held after worship services on a regular basis so that our church family can monitor an existing condition or determine if they might be at risk. Information about preventing and treating high blood pressure is offered at the screenings.
CPR Training Classes are offered periodically to help anyone be better prepared for an emergency and to assist those who need to meet a certification requirement.
Medical Equipment Lending Network is a list of medical equipment that individuals in our church family are willing to loan to others with a temporary need. Items include
“Every month we receive a beautiful hand-made bag for the month with delicious food including sandwiches or meat and potatoes, salad, vegetables, and yummy desserts. We even get a little box of candy! Lots of times they include cards to lift our spirits from the kids! It’s so much food that I can’t eat it all in one sitting! We have enough for the next day too! Plus, they not only bring me a box lunch, they also have one for Tom, my husband, and Chris, my son so no one has to cook for two days. Tom does all the cooking at our house now, so he likes that! This is quite a team of wonderful church members who are good cooks and do an amazing job for the shut-ins in our church. We’re very thankful for this awesome ministry!”
- Kathy Cameroncrutches, walkers, knee scooters, bath chairs, and more.
Feed the Need is a ministry that focuses on making, praying over and delivering food to those going through a major life event. Servants will cook a meal and/or deliver the meal to the family.
Physical Fitness Ministry focuses on taking care of our bodies through exercise. Current activities include pickleball, basketball, walking, running, aerobics, and cycling.
Scioto Ridge also opens our doors to a number of local community groups for regular meetings such as Hilliard Mom’s Club, Girl Scouts, AA, Al-Anon, 4-H Clubs, and more.
An All In Congregational Care Ministry means we provide a safe and reliable space for all members of our congregation as they navigate the ups and downs of life. It means that we care for the whole person.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
As disciples, we become active participants in God’s activity in the world through mission and service. The Missions Team of Scioto Ridge have dedicated themselves to leading our congregation in loving our neighbors and transforming the world. Missional service takes us beyond the doors of our physical church address, to be the church to a lost, hurting and hungry world. We serve locally, nationally, and globally with both financial support and hands-on servant support.
Feeding and Clothing Ministries – We currently have several local outreach ministries in which we serve meals, stock food pantries, perform volunteer work and provide clothing and personal care kits to people who are low income, homeless, senior citizens and those with health issues.
Community Development for All People – Monthly meal preparation, clothing collections, personal care kits, cooking classes, and donations of school supplies and Christmas gifts make up a large part of the support Scioto Ridge provides to the Church for All People.
Clair UMC – Servants travel to Clair UMC on the southside of Columbus. They spend their time serving meals and providing personal care kits.
Scioto Ridge Mission Garden – A dedicated and talented group of servants have created the mission garden right here at Scioto Ridge. The garden produces 1,500 pounds of fresh produce for local distribution each summer.
Westside Free Store Meal Ministry – The Westside Free Store provides meals and the ability for people to shop for free clothing and personal care items. Servants from Scioto Ridge prepare and serve meals there once a month.
Two Men’s Respite Center – The center is a drop-in location for men to have a safe place to receive a warm meal, clothing and personal care items.
Three Women’s Respite Center – The center is a drop-in location for women to come and relax in a safe setting. Scioto Ridge provides personal care items, clothing and meals.
Star House – Star House is a welcoming drop-in center for youth ages 14-24 experiencing homelessness and serves as a safe and accepting place where they can
connect with a concerned community. The youth are able to do their laundry, eat, rest, bathe, and receive clothing. Star House connects youth to services available through other agencies that provide educational, health, financial, and food subsidies along with job-seeking skills. Scioto Ridge provides personal care items, clothing, and meals.
Little Bottoms Free Store - Little Bottoms provides free diapers, wipes, baby clothes, books, coats, baby gear, and other basic needs for parents and families who are pregnant or have children 0-3 years of age.
Sewing Queens - This group meets to sew feminine hygiene products for the women served by the Buckeye Clinic in South Sudan.
Mission Trips
While local missions ministry is crucial to transforming our community, the members of Scioto Ridge’s mission trips take quite literally the third part of our mission statement – Transform the World. People step out of their comfort zones, get on the road or a plane, and meet those in need where they are.
Henderson Settlement – This is a UMC mission site in Appalachia near the Kentucky/Tennessee border. Our team members repair housing, paint, replace windows and doors, build room additions and porches, and complete siding on homes. In addition, servants work in their food pantry, clothing store, library, Senior Center and Young Mothers’ Center.
Henderson Settlement for Youth – This is another visit to the Henderson Settlement during spring break. Members of the middle and high school youth group travel to Frakes, Kentucky to complete light construction work and provide any other jobs needed.
Mexico – Each spring, dozens of people spend a week in Nuevo Progreso in northern Mexico across the border from Mercedes, Texas. The team builds homes for those in need. We worship at the local church on that Sunday, offer kids activities for the children at the church and orphanage, and perform small work projects. No building experience necessary.
Greece – Members of Scioto Ridge travel to the island of Lesvos to work as relief workers in one of the world’s most dangerous refugee camps. Each year, tens of thousands of people flee war, violence, and economic hardship, trying to make their way to Europe.
South Sudan – The Buckeye Clinic began in 2009 in South Sudan, Africa. Scioto Ridge members met two of the Lost Boys of Sudan who were attending The Ohio State University, and their dream was to bring medical care to their village of Piol by building a health clinic. Members of Scioto Ridge and others formed a team to improve maternal and child health in the village. Our church provides funds for building supplies and food.
Hilliard Community Assistance Council –This organization operates the Hilliard Food Pantry. Scioto Ridge provides non-perishable food items, management support, food delivery, and financial support. We pick-up food donations from the MidOhio Food Bank and community resources and help serve clients during the week. On a quarterly basis, we teach others through our crockpot ministry.
Hilliard School Food Pantries – Throughout the year, the church holds multiple collections to restock food pantries located within a number of Hilliard schools. In addition, financial resources have been used to pay off some school lunch accounts.
Outlive Your Spring Break – During spring break, Scioto Ridge offers families and individuals the opportunity to spend their spring break in missional service together. Some might choose to deliver meals to shut-ins through Meals on Wheels while others have cleaned the Boys and Girls Club of America center. People have spent time visiting with residents at a local nursing home or cleaning up an area of Columbus streets.
Avondale Elementary – A group of individuals provide one-on-one tutoring to elementary students in the Franklinton area. Using a district approved reading intervention system, they help students improve their reading and writing skills. Servants also support teachers through collections.
Missionaries – Scioto Ridge provides financial support to one missionary who serves as a church and community worker helping people in poverty in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Fundraisers – The missions team facilitates a couple of fundraisers throughout the year, including Uncle Ray’s Peanut Brittle sale. Proceeds from sales like this are used towards the mission efforts of Scioto Ridge.
Most of our mission ministries were started by individuals or groups who saw a need and followed through. It is our greatest desire that when someone sees an area of need, they feel empowered and equipped to respond with confidence. Scioto Ridge and the mission team are ready and available to discuss any opportunities you see for transforming the world.
Missions All In goal is that every member of our congregation discovers where they can spread the love of Christ by providing help, relief and resources to those who need it.

“The Mexico Mission Trip is a chance for us to be God’s hands in the world. We spend several days building a home for a family in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. In recent years, we have had the chance to also support the local Methodist church and the orphanage down the street. The trip always sends me back to Hilliard with a few muscle aches and spots of paint, but always with an incredible sense of gratitude. Grateful for the family that we worked with and how much they taught us about serving God faithfully. So thankful for the SRUMC team and the fact that I now call each one of them my friend. Grateful for the laughter and joy that we shared, and there are always a lot of laughs! Appreciative of the fellowship with the local community, its children, and the church. Thankful for all that we have, realizing it is far more than we need. Even (a little) grateful for those aches, knowing that we served our brothers and sisters in Christ, and that God has given us another day to do God’s work. Come join us…no experience or building skills necessary, just an open heart willing to be God’s hands in the world.”
“We came to Scioto Ridge and immediately felt a strong connection to the preaching and welcoming community. I’ve learned much from scripture while leading Disciple classes and have developed many lasting friendships. So, when asked to consider serving on the Leadership Board, I sensed God leading me there. It has been a rewarding experience.”
“I have been connected the United Methodist Church since I was in my early teens. I watched my dad and stepmom serve selflessly for years. I have learned that God gives each of us spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, and experiences that, when used to their fullest potential, spreads God’s love to others. When I learned how Scioto Ridge uses laity to help support the church’s mission through a leadership board, I recognized an opportunity to use my leadership skills to serve God and others. Through prayer and listening, I heard a clear calling to step out in faith and apply. Serving others in this way is enjoyable to me and I’m glad I responded to the call.”
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him. John 13:3-5
Being a leader takes courage, discipline, and determination. The Bible speaks of many wonderful leaders and how God blessed them for their work. Scioto Ridge has been blessed with incredible leadership. These people use their talents and time to serve in a very direct and spiritually deep way. Leaders of Scioto Ridge figuratively take off their outer robes and lead by example.
Leadership Board consists of 12 church members who oversee all areas of the church administration and resources to align with and support our church mission to Seek the Unchurched, Nurture Disciples, and partner with Jesus to Transform the World.
Facilities Maintenance Team members assist with light maintenance around the church and work to maintain the church grounds during the year.
Safety and Security Team members serve a vital role in promoting the overall safety at the church during worship, discipleship classes and events.
Missions Team members work to create new opportunities for people to share the Good News of Jesus Christ by serving locally, nationally, and globally.
Endowment Team members utilize their gifts and abilities to oversee the growth and use of the Scioto Ridge Endowment Fund. Their work allows Scioto Ridge to provide members and friends of Scioto Ridge a way to make a lasting financial gift to the mission of the church.
Scioto Ridge Legacy Society was created in 2017. The Legacy Society seeks to encourage, thank, and celebrate the ways people have made a long-lasting financial investment in the future of Scioto Ridge.
Finance Team members work to oversee all church finances from budgeting to year-end audits as good stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us.
Office Volunteers spend time in the office answering phones, folding bulletins, prepping crafts, and generally doing whatever needs to be done at the church.
Being All In by serving in leadership positions is when we use our time and talents for the mission of the church.

This is the day that the Lord acted; we will rejoice and celebrate in it! Psalm 118:24
As I look back over 2023, I have seen many situations where God is making a difference in the lives of people. When we gather together, one of the questions we ask ourselves is “Where have you seen God this week, month, year?” I’d like to share just a few of those moments.
I saw God in the arms of a twelve year old. She walked up behind a new friend who had never been to our Vacation Bible School, let alone served at one, and who was experiencing moments of panic and sadness. This young lady wrapped her arms around her new friend and laid her head ever so gently on her shoulder. She didn’t speak or move. She was simply present in her friend’s sadness and didn’t let go until her friend’s tension eased. The two of them became inseparable throughout the week, and were seen again smothering each other in shaving cream at Messtival in August.
I heard God in the voice of an eleven year old. She was a part of our 5/6 grade VBS program this summer. They were ramping up for their yearly car wash. When she heard that the Hilliard Food Pantry had burned down, she immediately said, “I think the money we raise from our car wash should go to the Hilliard Food Pantry.” It wasn’t my idea or the suggestion of anyone else on our team. Those amazing 5th and 6th graders raised $7,000 and coupled with the matching campaign from our credit union, the Hilliard Food Pantry received $14,000 from a two-hour car wash on a Wednesday afternoon in July.
I felt God’s presence in the baptism of two youth. It was a nearly indescribable experience watching from the back of the sanctuary as two amazing young people I’ve known since they were young, be immersed in the water of baptism. I felt God in that baptism as the water surrounded them. I felt God radiate through them as we laid hands on them in prayer.
I saw God in the tears of parents, grandparents, and guardians wanting to better care for the young people in their lives. These caregivers joined together last winter to learn how they can become a healing presence in the lives of young people suffering from despair and anxiety through a book study. I was stopped in the hall by a parent who had used the tools learned from the book. He said it was the first time he felt he actually helped his son through crisis.
I hear God in the prayers being poured over newly created prayer shawls and hand-held prayer pieces. A woman had been so touched by her shawl that she asked if we could put together prayer pieces for her grandchildren that live a great distance from her. They all hold their prayer pieces together, and even from far away, they feel His presence.
I see God everytime I pull in the church and someone is watering the mission garden. Knowing that their time is cultivating more than a thousand pounds of fresh produce that will eventually make it on someone’s dinner plate, gives me a great sense of connection to the community around us. I know God is at work.
These are just some of the many moments when I find joy and celebrate the awesomeness of God’s love, power, and grace at Scioto Ridge. These are the moments that bring me to work each day. These are the moments that provide me all the reason I need to give of my time, my talents, and my treasures.
Now I ask you - Where have you seen God?
