URBAN COTTAGE

MARKETING OFFICE REDESIGN

Contemporary and urban play a big role in influencing my vision in interior design. I always like the coziness with an (almost) industrial feel they give, and the freedom they offer to combine materials and patterns to create a unique texture.

LAKESIDE

interior design

U R BA N C OT TAG E problem

The idea of the Lakeside Urban Cottage stems from an objective to create a space from which the outdoor view is accessible from every single corner and area of the cottage, be it the lounge, the foyer, or even the bedroom. The Urban Cottage was built on a lakeshore and designed with large floor-to-ceiling glass pivot doors facing West, thus allowing the occupant to enjoy sunset scenery even without walking out to the balcony. The use of brick wall was minimised in order to avoid creating a stuffy ambience. Partition was then chosen to be used as a substitute. Multifunctional floor-to-ceiling TV cabinet, which also acts as a mini bar table, was placed to indicate an area marking between the lounge area and mini bar area, thus avoiding the use of separate furnitures to create a more spacious ambience. Strip windows were placed on the North wall at the mini bar area, enabling the occupant to check surrounding scenery without going out to the side balcony and without minimising privacy which tends to happen when large windows were used instead of strip windows.

THE 2 . 5 STOREY SOHO WITH 36 M 2 TOTAL AREA The word pagupon is derived from the Javanese word pagupon , meaning pigeon cage. Pagupon SOHO has a shape like a pigeon cage with its ground floor not surrounded by any walls, immitating the long wood structure of a real pagupon . Based on the true principle of a real pagupon , Pagupon SOHO is designed as a rather small, narrow building without sacrificing the needs of the person who lives inside it in order to do their everyday activities. The Pagupon SOHO is planned to be built on a 5 x 5m 2 site at City Home Regency, Keputih in Surabaya.

productivity

The ground floor is designed as an open space with a ‘levelling play’ on the floor, adapting one of Javanese popular traditional game, Engklek , with flexibility purpose. The steps system can create many possibilities of spatial usability. The lower and higher steps can play a role of chair and table, or a tribune to provide a facility for a fun discussion and a client meeting.

objectives

In order to create a green building, secondhand natural Bamboos (can easily be found at the site’s surrounding area) are used as a façade to create an impression of a light building which can strongly be supported by only some Bamboos. The actual structure is made of light steel as it is known as a green material because of its sustainability.

problem

Most graphic designers spend the majority of their time inside a building whose design has a possibility to encourage or constrain physical activity. Therefore, leading it to the ability to improve or decrease human’s health. Going through a design process can make graphic designer spends almost 10 hours per day sitting on a chair with constraint movement. Therefore, a design with an ability to increase physical movement is very much needed. This aim is approached by designing a circulation system that encourages stair use. Constructed in an urban area, this SOHO rose vertically on a site of 5 x 5m 2, leaving small space to fulfill office work and everyday living necessities. Therefore, the concept of flexibility is applied to the house to leave more space for circulation.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Based on Harvard study on the relevance of physical exercises and work performance, exercise has been shown to elevate mood and employees’ health, which has serious implications for workplace performance. That makes exercise being an essential factor to improve a graphic designer’s productivity. Therefore, a SOHO design that encourages those who live inside it to regularly use stairs in order to do their everyday activity is a solution. Multifuctional furnitures also require more effort and physical move. In this concept, the multifunctional bed and pantry need more effort of folding and unfolding after using it.

MARKETING OFFICE SURABAYA

problem

The interior redesign for PT. Pupuk Kaltim’s marketing office in Surabaya was focused on making a cozy and contemporary interior while avoiding its risk of being boring, The concept was supported with proper furniture design, such as adding a half partition that also plays a role as an individual storage in between every working desk of each staff, to achieve a more conducive working atmosphere. Individual storage is also given to prevent messy desk. The product display at the lobby was also redesigned to achieve a more appealing look as a form of corporate branding improvement.

CARDBOARD STOOL

TABLE LAMP

First time I got to make a real prototype of something I’ve designed myself was on third semester for an assignment where I got to make a stool made of cardboard. Second time was the following year and for another assignment in which interior accessories was aimed to help improving ITS’ corporate branding.

This stool was made of seven pieces of cardboard and constructed without any glue or nails like pieces of puzzle. The construction itself can withstand at least 90 kilograms before breaking. The stool then was painted using wall paint, and coated with glossy clear spray paint to finish it.

S AT T VA LU M I ER E accessories design

Sattva Lumiere table lamp is an individual project designed to represent Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) as one form to achieve a good branding through an accessories or merchandise design innovation. Exploring leather craftmanships and treatment, Sattva is a table lamp with a size of Ø250 x 350mm with gold painted metal frame, covered with linen and colourful leather cuts.

ITS’ L OGO

The octagonal base of Sattva symbolizes ITS’ gear logo. If a line is drawn from the middle part to each eight section of the gear it will form an octagon. Each leather cut’s shape is adapted from ITS’ logo with Wijaya Kusuma flower as a central part of the logo. The flower’s middle clover has two curved sides. If its cut into half and the top part is separated from the bottom, we will get the leather cut’s shape. The top part of the lamp is formed as a gear. All black stripes all over the lamp cover symbolizes Tugu Pahlawan stripes from ITS’ logo.

INTERIOR

My first still live sketch was done in 2015 around the time when I dedicated all of myself into preparing for college application, I practiced all the basics of sketching through my first year in university alongside with understanding perspective and composition in a deeper level. All of my hand paintings were aimed to understand the composition of colours and shapes, and were all done by using poster paint.

BRANDING

Graphic design was the first field of design I put interest into and has always been a part of me ever since I started my journey in exploring design world in mid 2012. I love working with Illustrator as much as I love combining it with Photoshop. Just recently, I made a very exciting decision by jumping into InDesign, and my layouting work has never been more fun and effective.

CONCERT BRANDING

for ITS Student Choir // 2016

I got an opportunity to join my university’s student choir in 2015, and after we were given a whole lot of vocal coaching and training, we were given a chance to hold a new members concert in early 2016. I was given an order to do the branding for this event, from teaser poster, main event poster, booklet, invitation, to twibbon. I was struggling so much as I could only do it all by myself while managing my time with countless of sleepless nights doing class asignments. But the design came out very satisfying for everyone and I had never been any happier.

I always believe that design will never be fully complete without photography. Photography has its own vision in what we call a visual aesthetic and the beauty of composition. There is a thing in finding something extraordinary in any ordinary objects and photography always has its magic into making them looking pleasant for the eyes. I love vivid and good contrast with warm sun-kissed tone for my photos.
