RICHARD'S REVIEW

Editor's Column By: Kiran Bohyer Hello, St. Richard's students. As some of you may remember, I had promised an iBook version of our newspaper. Well, the wait is finally over! I have finished the design of the book and it is called iReview. There will be an iPaper published for every new issue. To access the digital issue just ask your parents to check their email for the weekly newsletter. Based on

Welcome to the first 2014 issue

feedback on the digital issue, I hope to decrease the number of printed copies of our newspaper in the future to help save the environment! I know some of you truly enjoy the paper version so they will not completely retire. We need more help on our team to make sure we get newspaper issues out more frequently! I would like to reopen the position of a newspaper reporter. We also have a new position of photographer. Anyone who is interested in this position should bring your best photographs for review on 3/21/14.

Sincerely, Kiran

Riddles By: Julian Boes What five-letter word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it? What word begins and ends with an ‘e’ but only has one letter? Two people are born at the same moment, but they don't have the same birthdays? How can a pants pocket be empty and still have something in it? What is black when it is clean and white when it is dirty?

Inter-murals update By: Jade Thomas

Many people wonder what inter-murals are. Inter-murals are sports teams such as; basketball, soccer, and track but they are not traveling teams. Unlike traveling teams intermurals are not gender separated. They are mixed. St. Richard’s School provides two divisions for inter-murals; Little Dragons (Kindergarten through second grade.) and Big Dragons (Third grade through fifth). “Intermurals helps get children familiar with the sport," says co-athletic director Miss Peoni. Hopefully this year’s inter-mural players will be on the traveling team next year!

Mardi Gras By: Karina Bohyer This year on March 4, SRES had its annual Pancake Race. It was full of screaming, cheering, chanting and dancing. The 5th grade students made their puppets and raced around the gym while getting everyone “pumped up.” The 1st, 6th, and 8th grades participated in this year’s race. The faculty and staff also joined. The Pancake Race consists of four teams of five or six members competing against each other in a relay of flipping pancakes. The person has to run from one end of the gym and back all while flipping a pancake in a pan. Once she/he is done, she/he hands the pan to the next competitor. I hope everyone had fun at the SRES annual Mardi Gras Pancake Race. See you next year!

Track and Field Update By: MayaRose John The new Track and Field season is starting up again. I interviewed Chloe White, an eighth grade student and a two time Track and Field participant. When asked what her favorite event is she answered, “High jump because I enjoy the free feeling I get while jumping over poles.” Some other events include Long Jump, Shot Put, and Discus. We hope for the best for this year’s Track and Field team. GO DRAGONS! !3

The Beef By: Charlotte Root Ever since January 14, 2014, two fandoms have clashed and are in a raging war of insults and slander. The war was provoked when Jared Padalecki, actor of a lead role in the television show “Supernatural," tweeted an antagonizing message at Justin Bieber. After this, the “Beliebers” boycotted watching the show. When the next episode aired, it got about 2.7 million views, which was more than they had gotten in three years. Many people believe that Justin Bieber is a bad role model after his abuse of drugs and alcohol. “I like everything more than Justin Bieber, even heart surgery,” said Mr. Smith. When asked which she liked more: Supernatural or Justin Bieber, Ms. Neal said, “Well, I’ve never seen the show Supernatural, but I know that I like it better than Justin Bieber.” In a survey of 25 St. Richard’s 8th graders and a few teachers, 23 of them liked Supernatural better than Justin Bieber. One of the 2 that preferred Justin Bieber, Megan Taylor, said, “Despite all of the bad things that have resulted from some bad decisions by him, he is still my favoritest person ever and I love him!” about Bieber. MayaRose John, the other supporter, said that she loves him too. Another star in Supernatural, Misha Collins, claims to be a belieber and has been seen wearing an “I ❤ ️ Justin Bieber” shirt. After the Belieber’s boycott, he sarcastically tweeted, “We beliebers must protest (Justin Bieber’s) arrest with another boycott! (Any suggestion on what we should boycott?)”

Social Media By: Ethan Holder What is appropriate for social media and what is not? St. Richard's is improving on social media. By that I mean everyone is not getting too addicted to Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Facebook. You should be allowed to use social media but don’t let it take away time for your studies. There are many things that you don't want to post on social media. For example, you should not post anything you feel is from your personal life. Others don’t need to know about those things. Post things you know that are appropriate. You shouldn’t be afraid of your parent looking at your account. Social media is fun but use it responsibly.
