Adult/Teen Lessons • Ratio 1:6 • 30 min. We offer two levels for adults and teens:

Basics (B): for those just starting out. Focus will be on increasing your comfort level in the water, teaching the fundamentals such as floats, glides and working up to swimming on the front and back. Strokes (S): for those who already have a good grasp of the fundamentals. We will work on endurance and increasing the proficiency of your strokes Day

Lifesaving Sport

The Lifesaving Sport program is for 8 - 12 year olds who have completed the Red Cross swim program and are too young to proceed into the Lifesaving Society Bronze Medal program. Lifesaving Sport Fundamentals offers participants a recreational introduction to lifesaving sport skills. The program also teaches team building, fair play, ethics in sport and responsibility. Lifesaving sport competition opportunities are available through TeleGames, as well as regional and provincial lifesaving sport events. Lifesaving Sport Fundamentals promotes a healthy lifestyle for children and gives them the opportunity to keep active in physical activity for their lifetime. Day Monday

Why Choose our Red Cross Swim? Quality: Our programs strive to make water safety active, engaging and age appropriate. Our Water Safety Instructors train for more than 75 hours and have practical teaching experience. Our programs also come with recognition tools to encourage each swimmer’s success.

Program Content: Our program teaches all five strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke), promotes fitness and endurance, and gives swimmers lifelong skills to safely enjoy other aquatic pursuits. Learn to swim and see where SRC’s Red Cross Swim program can take you or your family. National Program: Swimmers can easily transfer or continue training between communities, which is especially important for teens taking the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Development program as they are able to work anywhere in Canada. Salt Water Pools: Learn to swim in our beautiful salt water pools. Not only do we have the best quality instruction, we also have the best quality water. Salt water pools have tremendous health benefits over traditional chlorine pools, especially for people with sensitive skin, skin conditions, allergies, and asthma. No more stinging red eyes. No chlorine smell, taste or feel. Salt water is soft on the skin and healthier for everyone. Kids love it!

We built our Swim Program continuum on three pillars: 1. Swimming: Participants learn the five main swimming strokes (front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breast stroke, and sidestroke) and develop effective stroke techniques using logical progressions and proven teaching strategies.

Ages 0-4

2. Skills and Water Safety: Based on our research, most drownings that occur are preventable incidents. Our skills and water safety knowledge components focus on self-rescue skills and safe behaviour to prevent injuries. 3. Fitness: Each program level includes activities to build endurance and promote individual success while encouraging lifelong physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. During the development process of our program, we always keep our participants in mind. Our swim instructors are trained to adapt the program skills to each individual swimmer’s needs, helping all participants achieve their personal best in swimming and fitness. What to expect in our Red Cross Swim Programs: Red Cross Swim is built around an individualized approach to teaching, which encourages each swimmer to improve and strive for his or her personal best. Children learn through age-appropriate teaching methods that accommodate all learning rates and styles. Instructors keep their swimmers active and wet using three methods of teaching: 1. Direct method used to teach skills with specific steps such as stroke correction for swimmers. 2. Discovery method used to teach skills with a specific purpose such as learning how to float in a position that is comfortable to the swimmer. 3. Games used to practice skills, reinforce safety knowledge, and build endurance. Games are an effective way to teach children water orientation and introduce and develop swimming and water safety skills. Games reduce anxiety, facilitate learning, increase participation, and help swimmers enjoy the water. Our instructors use games and activities that suit the ages, interests, and abilities of the swimmers. The instructor’s goal is to help each swimmer succeed by planning enjoyable activities that build on what he or she can do already, and by providing the feedback participants need to encourage the learning process. Using logical progressions, corrective teaching techniques and positive feedback, your child will develop swimming skills and learn how to enjoy the water safely.
