College of Environment and Design The College of Environment and Design’s move to a renovated arts building has given the college a new identity as a leading landscape architecture program. The newly LEED-Gold building boasts several new sustainable technologies in its architecture, interior design, and landscaping. This design proposal centers on the idea of Synergy. By incoporating sustainable landscaping as well attention to using existing circulatory systems to influence the atmosphere of a college where students can continue to gain inspiration.

Large Scale Projects


Changes to original master plan include: New Plantings Amphitheater New Circulatory paths Changes in groundcover Additional bioswale to capture runoff Newer water features Synergy: Concept diagram, forming the design ideas. Large circles represent spaces of circulation and also focal points. Goal is to create spaces of visual appeal with more planting and landscape features.

Planting Construction Plan In an attempt to re-design the landscape of the College of Environment and Design, this planting plan proposal recommends use of native plants unique to the Southern Piedmont ecology. Maintenance is minimal but the various plantings help to unify and separate the unique spaces for the proposed design.

Plant Notes All plant beds to be neatly edged with 2� deep trench border. All areas within plant beds to be mulched with 3� deep decomposed hardwood bark. Mulch all sodded areas to be Zoysia, machine cut with strong fibrous root system.

Holliday Park Master Plan Holliday park located in Indiana is situated in the midst of a suburban-city neighborhood. This plan includes several park amenities which caters to several visitors The park is equipped with 2 soccer fields, 4 baseball fields, large formal entrance park, trails, community center, tennis courts, basketball courts, picnic space, and a natural playground. These elements all combine to create an enjoyable multi-recreation site for all types of visitors.

Objective: Redesign former ruins site into a large scale community park to promote active engagement in the environment for neighboring communities. To create a recreational park which provides a variety of sports complexes and areas for park ammenities. Preserve the natural ecosystem by designing in regards to the natural slopes and habitats of the existing site.

Caldwell Corridor Redesign The UGA Costa Rica Campus’ comprises of a variety of unique tropical plants native to the region. These plants often times vibrant in color, course in texture contribute to a rich and visually stimulating ecosystem. With the rich environment birds are often times seen lurking and perching on many of these plants. Many campus visitors and tourist come to Santa Elena for bird watching experiences and well as learning different ways sustainability is approached in these environments. This master plan proposal of a bird platform includes a scenic pathway around a herb garden as well as transplanting many plants to create a unique birdwatching experience.

Mt. Vernon Residential Neighborhood A mixed use development proposal for the Mt. Vernon Site (14 acres) requires a range of high density dwelling units to single dwelling units. The purpose is to build the Neo-traditional neighborhood model which emphasizes the live work, play, model and provide sustainable design.

Aycock Residence: Private owners have specific project requirements: Patio space is highlighted as the most important of the design. The family hosts several gathering in the backyard and wanted a design which enhances the outdoors aestheticsm. This design is minimalistic and allows for larger spatial gatherings.

Rome, Georgia Top of Broad Streetscape Working with a team of planners and designers to help create a downtown improvment plan for Rome, Georgia. Part of this initiative was to enhance the streetscape to help make this development more profitable and lively. We created different districts top of Broad, middle Broad, and bottom broad. I am givine work samples of just the top of broad. By dividing up the downtown rome into districts we were able to tackle on specifice problems more effectively.

Perspective with brick crosswalks and cornerside plantings Top of Broad From Turner McCall intersection to 8th Avenue The intersection of Turner McCall and Broad Street is a significant entry way leading into downtown Rome. Redesigning the streetscape improves the sense of entry into downtown Rome. The first bloc of downtown Rome lacks consistency in sidewalk width, tree spacing, tree species, and road widths. Enhancing the overall streetscape enhances traffic flow and marks a significant presence into downtown Rome. The following plan designs will help create a consistent and uniform streetscape design that will improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow. Bloc 1- Tree spacing every 15’-20’ Minimum sidewalk length 6’ Minimum grass/turf median length 2’ Decrease the length of turn lane by adding planted median Road median- average 4-6’ length

Port of Esperanza, Vieques Puerto Rico Vision To address Vieque’s economic development and environmental concerns through providing several sustainable design suggestions for future development. Project Objectives Provide examples of sustainable design projects along the waterfront of Eperanza to help give a unique experience for tourists and inhabitants. To preserve the island’s unique coral reef ecosystem by promoting education and interaction along the shore. Sustainable design to also help provide future job market opportunities as well as promote the fishing economy. Community Part of creating design suggestion addresses the importance of community engagement and visions for the future growth of Vieques. To limit encroachment rights to island’s inhabitants, suggestions for charretts will help define the primary goals to improve the health, safety, and welfare of Esperanza. Waterfront Development A formally designed waterfront that adheres to sustainable design infrastructure primarily engages people to enjoy the recreational outdoor spaces and provides walkable spaces.

WATERFRONT PAVILLION CONCEPTUAL Above is another smaller conceptual of building a waterfront pavillion which increases interaction with the water, connects city streets to the main boardwalk, and accomodates suspended bridges to help reduce structural damage to the ocean shoreline.

MASTER CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAM This axonometric, conceptual diagram proposed several over arching goals for the implementation of the waterfront re-design. First, the red dotted lines represent the active uses along the waterfront, this would include the sidewalks and intermittently spaced seat walls along the shore. The most outer edge area, the pink indicates protection zones for the coral reef systems, by limiting human access to different areas of coral reefs. Some research and restorative efforts should occur along those areas. The green symbolizes the areas where the waterfront will need to include green infrastructure and maintain a fair amount of beach vegetation.


This diagramatic street map prioritized streets connecting to the waterfront and calls of a design which capitilizes as well as provides a walkable experience for visitors and inhabitants.

Personal Statement Designing should be as fun as the environments that we create. As a designer I seek to create environments which engage in the human senses by carefully taking into considerations the materials, vegetation, nature of the project, and psychological benefits to humans. Whether a city or a suburban neighborhood, landscape architecture and design is my way to openly express the passion I have for nature’s ability to heal today’s modern day’s problems.
